"As part of celebrating the release of Age of Conan we are happy to unravel a brand new PvP ruleset that has not previously been disclosed: The Culture PvP ruleset! Note that this new PvP server type is experimental and players on these servers must expect an ongoing change to the ruleset.
The goal of this PvP server-type is to stimulate war behind the three cultures of Cimmeria, Aquilonia and Stygia. As a player on a Culture PvP server, you are shielded from lone travelers of your own culture, however you may still group with any culture and form a group and attack anyone.
The Culture PvP ruleset is an evolving ruleset that will be tweaked and polished based on player-feedback in the months to come. Although it is, at least currently, possible to make guilds across cultures, pure culture groups and guilds will be endorsed on this server, and as such players on the Culture PvP servers must prepare that the future will hold continued changes to the ruleset.
We have changed to ruleset on two servers that were previously flagged as full PvP. The homes for the Culture PvP servers are:
Bane (US)
Twilight (EU)

To Conan Lore Monkeys,
How does this ruleset compare to the books? Is it closer to canon than a FFA server? I haven't read the books, but I figure cultures fighting each other makes sense, instead of getting stabbed in the back by your own kind everytime you leave the city.
I'm interested in this server, but I'm still waiting on reviews from people more like me to play the game.

will probably be quite hard to balance cultures as only stygians can be mages, and on other side stygians cannot make soldiers.
also if they remove ability to group and guild between cultures then people on this server will probably have big problems with some pve content like hard dungeons and raids.
Gratuitous bump because this is a great topic and one i had addressed yesterday with not enough feedback but ut was a start(questioned how your race impacted your gameplay)
AHHH, i was wondering what those "culture" pvp servers were for. This the type of PvP i like!
hey guys, can someone make it clear to me..
are they adding new servers of this PVP type or are they just making all the PVP servers to this? (so no more FFA)

So they realized FFA - PVP is total mistake.
I am glad they are flexible and trying to find a good recepy for functional PVP , lets see what they cook up
Wouldn't the idea work better if the three cultures had a more even mix of archetypes?
Ningen wa ningen da.

Im just glad they are open to new rulesets already. Thats what pissed me off about WoW, the game could have been alot more fun and had alot more life if they released servers with different rulesets.
Well from all the stories I read (the ones written by Howard himself) , I guess the ruleset makes some sense. But I still think FFA coincide more with the lore.
From what I've read, your alliance usually depends more on what god you worship. Followers of Mitra are natural enemies of the followers of Set. Followers of Crom will kill or allign with whomever they choose.
Most Stygians follow Set, most Aquilonians follow Mitra. Cimmeriens and Barbarians alike (such as Gundermen) will follow whoever they choose ( ex. Crom). This is where I guess they would come up with the cultural ruleset.
However, Conan himself killed and made alliances whenever he felt it necessary . This is why I feel FFA pvp is more true to the lore. In the end it is all about your ambition and what you will do to get what you want. If one of your own kind is standing your way, will you cut him down or hope he plays nice? For me the choice is clear(FFA).

I don't recall seeing people getting ganked left and right in the Conan movies (didn't read the books). So I don't think FFA PvP quite fits either. Maybe it would fit with the same type of penalties, personalities, life experiences, and etc. that the characters in the Conan movies/books had, but that isn't going to happen. The FFA PvP servers in AoC is running rampat with immature people. People who do not see the sense in playing realistically, so that FFA PvP is fun.
