Very very good question.  Honestly?  I think both games will be amazing.  I am looking forward to both I am currently in the AOC early access and I am loving it beyond my hearts content.  I am wary of Warhammer because I am ultimately afraid that alot of the youngsters will migrate from wow to Warhammer.  And I appreciate the more mature crowd in AOC.  But If i have my way I would like to eventually play both at some point because they both have very interesting concepts.

If I had to choose between those two exclusively...

After having played both of them..AoC would be my choice.

However, AoC would only be played for a short while by me, on a PvE server... Then I'd go back to my hiatus waiting for a desent game to come out that isnt a handheld questgrind static world game.

AoC till Warhammer is released. I'm sick of what is out there right now.

    Do

    You

    Know

    ANYTHING

    About

    WAR?

and no, a targeted early closed beta does not apply.

Check the third post on this thread http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/239/view/forums/thread/180513/page/1

and tell me how is this a "questgrind static world".

No gore in WAR? While that sucks, I dont think it will phase me much. I played WoW so long and really didnt notice it as a problem that much.

Will console people be able to play in the same online world as the PC people in AoC?  Or will it be a separate world of just console people and just PC people.

There is one thing WAR needs to adress to make it succesful, what we will they do if one side becomes much larger than the other? Since it is so pvp centred it risks total collapse on those realms were the smaller side is constantly under siege because of inferiour number.

On other news,  Age of Conan is the 4th most played game and the 2nd most played mmorpg among members of Xfire, and increasing fast.

    More news:

Expectations for the sales of Wrath of the Lich King has fallen from 13.5 million to less than 10 millions following the success of Age of Conan. And that despite it is belivied to get a Metascore of 94

I will try War when it comes out.  AoC never appealed to me because of the nudity and gore.

Plus, my machine that plays LoTRO in Very High settings with 50 FPS...would have to play AoC in Low settings and I don't wanna play a game that looks all blurry LOL!

War's PC requirements are gonna be MUCH less than AoC- so I should be able to play that game fine.

I predict that War is gonna be HUGE too!  I think it'll be the first MMO since WoW to hit a million subs in NA.

Why not try AoC until WAR releases and then compare them?

  • starstar Member Posts: 1,101
WAR, definitely. Being a -huge- DAoC fan (twas my first MMO, and I still

I am really excited for a game designed around a massive, immersive world; built around PvP, but can still cater to my PvE needs. From the ToK to PQs to Scenarios, WAR is for me!

Note: this is coming from a former AoC fangurl. OB broke my heart, and I have almost no intentions of returning. . .

Warhammer Online is 5+ months off so it really doesn't matter does it. AOC which is out or WAR which is 5+ months off sounds stupid question unless both are out.

I never was that enthusiastic about AoC. It does seem targeted towards a certain demographic of player versus the 'general' MMO player base. The fact that the game is based on Robert E Howard's world gave me the impression that it was going to have its limitations just like LoTRO. Basing games on these particular books you're confined to working just within the creatures vision instead of a ground floor fantasy where you can introduce new material without effecting continuity.

Warhammer doesn't really have as much meat and potatoes as I'd like from an MMO, however for now its the better prospect. After participating in the AoC beta I was convinced that AoC wasn't going to be on my play list.

I was for aoc all the way. but reading up war sounds very fun in some respects. and aoc was partially disapointing.

depends on how finished both games are by the time war releases. aoc needs some work but might be pretty pollished by the time war releases. but how pollished will war be?

I'll just have to wait and see how good war is, until then definately playing aoc.

War will be polished upon release.  DAoC was pretty well polished when it released.  The only hting Mythic had to do was release new content.  As for bugs and glitches, I don't remeber any real bugs in DAoC when it launched.

I think of WAR as a PvP WoW.  It uses a simular combat engine (with collision detection)  and bases it all around PvP.  WAR will not chug my system like AoC is doing right now.

Both games have a unique twist on classes.  I think WAR has a better twist.  Melee pet classes.  Combat priest who fight first heal and heal later.

Right now AoC is a great game to hold me over till WAR.  But it is a strong in PvE.  PvP combat is not polished as s sstrong point.  PvP combat in AoC does not use its new battle system very well.

every game at launch has problems.  when you get 400,000 people all playing on different machines something is bound to go wrong and it does.  there is not a single game that is free of bugs

thats the only problem i see for WAR.  its a pvp WoW, and from my personal experience it was the pvp'ers (and some raiders) that made up the asshats of the game

combat priests eh?  have you ever heard of the Tempest of set?  or the Bear Shaman?  they both do that.  however the priest of Sigmar (or whatever they are called) is by far much cooler

sry for the double post but i could not let this slide.

Only you can answer that for yourself.  I can tell you this much, by the time WAR releases this year (if it does release this year)  AoC will be very very polished.  Each update is leaps and bounds forward.  I've seen a few turds on this site flaming AoC hard and I can guarantee most of them never left the starting area.

My guild is building it's own city!  I'm talking it's own crafting areas, buildings that give the guild character buffs, it's own AH, I mean everything.  You can hire guards to protect it, ot lay siege to other guilds' cities, seriously it's pretty amazing,

I like how some people also post stuff like "blah blah you can easily reach 50 in less than a week of casual play"  What's "casual play" to an 18 year old kid living in mom's basement and working part time at home depot?  5-6 hours a day?  More?  Less?  For those of us with 40+ hour a week jobs, "casual play" is a couple of hours a night and a couple of good chunks of time on the weekend (once you've done a few RL responsiblities like groceries, laundry, housework)  THAT'S casual play, and there's no way on earth you'd get to 50 in less than a week.

This game is fun.  All the classes are a good time and the combat is a blast.  Give it a try for yourself, if you don't like it play something else.  Or you could just hang on this site and cry how MMO's have gone to crap and nothing will ever be like WoW etc etc  It seems to be the popular thing to do these days......
