This is my first post ever, or at least since i can remember... Anyways, anyone who cries about ganking on a PvP server in my opinion is worse than some1 who cries about being ganked on a PvE server who happened to flag themselves... If you play on a PvP server, then you probably do so because you have the ability to gank... And don't tell me no, cuz there's more to ganking someone just because you find it fun... A lot of people, like myself, roll on PvP so they can kill the competition, or in other words, keep spawns/zones to themselves. But one thing is sure and a fact, if you play on a PvP server, you expect to be ganked, so deal with it or re-roll on PvE and stop crying about it. Like in WoW, you can still flag and raid cities in PvE, so what's the big difference other than being flagged 24 hours.

Hmm, sorry but I guess my answer would be no.
If the only reason for PvP is supposed to be ganking or zone camping, what does that have to do with playing in the world of Conan? I don't think I have seen a single person post about using PvP for role-playing reasons, just lots of childish 'Hardcore PvP Vs Carebear PvE' name calling.
Seriously, if the people that enjoy ganking don't care about all the effort Funcom put in to create an immersive world & just want to get their kicks by trying to ruin the game for newbies then it must reduce any game they play down to the same depressing level, which is pretty sad.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
If you disagree, than what aspect does PvP have that PvE doesn't... other than the fact that you are constantly flagged.
PvP has a greater capacity for realism, but a world where gankers are encouraged rather than being thrown in jail or executed is actually less realistic than one with only PvE.
There was talk on another thread of a earlier bounty system for anti-social players, but unfortunately it seems to have been dropped from the game. The only real world scenario where people often get away with pointless griefing is in a school playground, but in the adult world there are usually rules to deal with that sort of thing. That doesn't mean that the adults are physically incapable of attacking each other, just that society usually imposes consequences for unjustified violence.
The usual 'Hardcore Vs Carebear' argument just reduces the argument to ridiculous extremes. To draw a parallel, here in the UK guns are for the most part illegal, but in the US they are readily available. Your PvP argument is a bit like saying that no-one would want to live in America unless they secretly wanted to blow someone's head off.
Not everyone wants to commit antisocial acts purely because they can.

I agree here. I'm playing AoC and I can tell you that it's been a bit of a problem, but I like the analogy you used here London. I am kind of torn though. I agree that PVP adds realism to the game, but hell, at this point I kinda just want to level my demonologist up and spend an hour in White Sands killing off spawn campers and roaming ganking death squads, and I can't do that if there are limits enforced, lol.
I was going to roll on a pvp server, but looking at the structure of the game and my past experiences with funneled zoneing on open pvp servers.. I've decided to most likely go PVE. When you have funnel zoneing you get people that are always there waiting for you to pop through. Immunity time or not. It makes no difference. They'll chase you and kill you. On top of that the instance hopping is silly. It is my belief that open pvp should be left to large world sandbox MMOs. Smaller zone based MMOs should probably stay clear, but I haven't played yet so I won't know for sure. I'll try the open pvp, but more then likely it'll be a struggle just to have some fun. Mini-games and borderlands will most likely be enough to satisfy my pvp urges. In WOW I was on a pvp server and it really didn't make any difference. It just meant you might always have someone 2x your level waiting for you to fight a mob. It really wasn't fun or of any challenge. It was just annoying. The game was to small for open pvp and funnels you to too common areas. Same issue with AoC.
I don't know why you keep refering WoW as having funnel zoning when it is clearly seamless. The exit/entrance isn't in one spot, you can enter by jumping off mountain, waterfalls, open border, swimming across and intersections. Also in burning crusade you can use flying mounts to fly pretty much over anything in outlands and across zones by flying over mountains and cities. You have obviously never played WoW or atleast past free trial. I don't even like WoW but I hate it when people make ignorant comments about another game.
I've played it to 60.. twice. It's tunnel zoneing. You obviously don't know how it works. So keep quiet.
It doesn't matter where the zone line is. It doesn't even matter where it places you on the other side of the zone line. That's all done with math. There is a trigger border around every zone line. You hit it before you hit the zone line and at that time you begin downloading the data gradually. By time you hit the zone line. You've finished downloading. The distance is HUGE at which you start downloading the data as to accommodate for slower machines, but even then some of the slower ones still have a glitch at the zone line. The degraded quality of the game allows for this. Try it on a game like AoC and it'll fail miserably unless the quality is degraded. The data is to large to stream it over time. They should still do it anyway to reduce load times, but then again if you hit a trigger you'll take an FPS hit in this type of game and that's not good if you don't intend to actually zone.
Sorry Kyle your wrong. Zoning yes is an issue where you have a loading screen BUT your not being tunneled your not forced to zone in only a narrow area. In WoW outdoors you could zone on any part of the zone map. A tunnel zoneing is when your forced into a bottle neck or tunnel your area is very limited and hence can be predictable. A classic example of tunnel zoning is entering White sands everytime you enter whitesands you arrive in front of the row boat.
This means that an ambusher can wait for you at the rowboat and kill you every single time you zone in at that point. Another classic spot of contention is the ress points as you revive at the nearest one everytime. This are tunnels with only one entrance and only one exit.
A non tunnel zone example is seen often in wow outdoors area where anywhere along the line can be used to enter or exit the zone. This wide area makes it a lot harder for someone to camp you and hit you on entrance (just avoid the roads).

This.
If more people thought like you, there'd be a whole lot less carebear tears.
There is no tunneling/funneling in wow. Unless you count in AV. those who play know waht im talkig about.
Other wise no.. EQ.. omg serious funnel/tunneling.. and major ganking.
So yeah.
So AoC has this tunnel zoning? its not seamless like WoW?
regardless I will be on a pvp server.. Nothign more satisfying them correcting the attitude of your fellow player for KS/PK'ing and other greivous deeds..
The IDEA of FFA PvP is great. The application of it is terrible.
All it ends up being is a group of griefers playing all day to reach a high level, then returning to gank everyone else. These people have no skill (you can try to defend them, but they don't... they just have time) but I guess that's fun to them.
You lose nothing by dying and they gain nothing by killing you (PvP experience is not a good argument). Therefore it is just a waste of time for everyone.
Why roll PvP when I can enjoy the game through level 80, griefer-free, and then be able to experience PvP in the Border Kingdoms? This why I roll PvE.
I hope ganking makes you feel better about yourselves though, I really do. Keep up the great work!
Do yourself a favor. If you think you might want to be on a pvp server even a little bit, just go ahead and do it. Ganking is always going to be bad at the launch of any game. Eventually it will taper off and general rules of acceptable behavior will be established. And, in the off chance the zoning/choke point ganking doesn't ease up, I can't imagine AoC not making changes to make it less attractive. If you stick with the game for years, you don't want to be stuck on a PvE server feeling like you're missing out on a fun aspect of the game. You won't always be a defenseless lamb trying to level.

I totally agree! Now just to convince my husband to let me get the game :P

the application is fine. You will always ahve bad seeds were ever you go. yes i hope the put some sort of detrent for greifing at chock points. But it happens. Deal with it.
obviously your one of those people that needs to be defended. its ok. That is why I roll on a pvp server. Not to gank, but to defend those being ganked.
And sorry to say but our wrong. You gain alot by pvping. Infact, 99% of the players i meet who dont pvp. then go out and PVP become far far better players. let alone. This game is intend to ahve PVP.. there for its not a waste of time. plus this game apparently gives you exp.. a reward for it. there for not such a waste of time after all.
I dont roll pve(carebear) server, because of a number of reason. One: i like the unknown. I dont fear it. the computer can only give so much challange with out cheating. I like that challange. two: I know there will be gankers and bad people there. I enjoy correcting there attitude. And i dont use Lube. I can be an asshole and be in the right.
I do. I enjoy ganking, gankers. its most rewarding. i do feel better defending others. I do feel better not being afriad to do something even when the odds are against me.
So go back to your safe carebear server. Your one less person I will have to defend.
