Rumors are fun are'nt they? But yeah, don't take me wrong. I'd love a new mmo released by blizzard. Perhaps a game that would suit me. World of starcraft~
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
Personally i would not play it. Because it wouldn't be the original Diablo makers who would make it.
Are you kidding me? Most of the original team created Hellgate: London, and that game was a complete mess. Just because a certain dev team works on a game, doesn't mean it's going to be good.
Blizzard is a top noch company, they don't need certain people to make a game great, I can guaruntee you that.
Having said that, I don't believe the next MMO will be Diablo. While I believe Diablo 3 will get announced next month, I think it will be the same style game of it's predacessors, a fast paced hack-n-slash online game. Diablo would be too similar to WoW as far as gameplay (or should I say WoW borrowed too heavily from Diablo).
The most logical thing would be to make a Starcraft MMO. It would be an ambitious project, yes, but nothing like it would have been seen.
What if Blizz took over the production of huxly? Better yet what if the game was actually getting done? Alas no new info has been released and IMHO that would be game will be king of the hill
Personally i would not play it. Because it wouldn't be the original Diablo makers who would make it.
And they are launching Sc2 soon but uh. I don't think they will make another mmo til wow has become a desert.
First off Blizzard North who was responsible for Diablo and Diablo II was in the process of making Diablo 3, however, when the execs from the main office went to check on them what they saw was a complete mess of a game. This is why Blizzard North was disbanded and most of the people fired.
Secondly, I would not play World of Diablo because it would just be another WoW clone and to be quite honest WoW's a fucking horrible game. The PvP is so damn carebearish it's sickening and the PvE leaves you with no sense of real accomplishment when everyone and there mother has 2+ lvl70s and a good number of guilds are doing end game content.
I'm hoping for D3 that is just like D2. A hack and slash clicker where I can farm Baal like bosses for the phat lewts.
As far as their new mmo....I'm hoping it's a sandbox like SWG and/or EQ1. Those games PvE gave you a sense of accomplishment and the PvP was better than WoWs.

I was reffering to that it wouldn't be with the same touch. And i would prefer to see the light of D3 instead of a "mmo" out of a hack N' slash game. I can smell epic fail from a game named "World of Diablo"
And those "certain people" made the whole thing about Diablo. blizzard north was kickass. And personally i think only them could pull off another Diablo (which won't happen because they have their own studio and released crap along with another piece of crap)
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
- very well financed (pressure to retain market leader position and shareholder returns)
- very well planned (as was wow)
- a long time until launch (Blizzard have no need to rush - they take great pride in their I.P.)
- the biggest media hype event in MMO history
- a disappointment to expectations ( it has to be virtually impossible to beat what wow has accomplished. How do you change an industry twice in such rapid succession)
- loved and flamed to equal extent (probably years before its even launched)
Diablo 3 is prolly the best bet, but that is based on rumores etc. They bougth up some url`s with the name and a former employe have been "leaking" stuff about d3 -" a massive war between heaven and hell..".
The cancelation of Starcraft Ghost could allso indicate that they actually decided to use the platform to make a Starcraft online game. Kinda like the Adventure game with Thrall in a leading role was cancelled prior the WoW launch..
I defenately hope the last. Starcraft Online, with playable Terrans, Zergs and Protoss and aLOT of machinery. Combats in space, engineered crafted tank´s and mechs etc etc will really own.
Blizzard should have the Starcraft MMO already planned as a simple skin mod of WOW. All that is needed is the several gigabytes of Terraforming art of Azeroth into a Galaxy for Starcraft factions to occupy.
Ironically enough, I wouldn't mind invading Azeroth as a Space Marine just to kill a few Murlocs and pwn the Deadmines for laughs in a MOD like this.
Blizzard probably knows any MMO they create will be the proverbial WOW killer and doing so would be a poor business decision right now.
I think we would all be suprised if Blizzard comes out with any new MMO that isn't based on one of their established franchises. Imagine if they came out with a Western MMO or some other genre we never thought of. The risk of failure is pretty high for such a bold entry into the MMO business.

Where do people get these ideas from? Blizzard was left holding the bag not the other way around. Blizzard north pretty much left en masse, they weren't fired. They didn't like the direction that Blizzard was going as a company and they wanted to start their own company again. It is a lot different running your own company and being part of a huge company. The founders of Condor games (aka Blizzard North) are the same founders of Flagship Studios.
Blizzard North employees resigned from the company they weren't fired. The few that remained behind were actually moved into the regular Blizzard and appear in the credits for TBC. The vast majority of the employees left in 2009 though and founded Flagship Studios and Castaway Entertainment.
What you just described is what happened to Origin. After Origin kept screwing up UO2 and a few other projects and moving resources from other projects to UO2 some of the key guys left (specifically Chris Roberts and Warren Spector). Then after messing up more EA went down and kicked butt. They were getting upset that Origin didn't have anything meaningful to show for the money that EA was giving them. Plus even worse they didn't have any cohesive leadership at the time. (This information comes directly from interviews that Garriot did, where he admits that it was his fault that Origin basically got disolved).
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Starcrat would be a good one. But Im only playing it If it sets up a decent pvp system and not anotehr raid game/grind game. Wow was fun and all for leveling but the rest just gets old.
The only logical MMO that they would make out of a current franchise would be an MMO based on Starcraft.
Why?
Well because it is not a fantasy based MMO. So in that sense it won't kill off WoW and they will attract those players who are more into Sci-Fi MMOs rather than fantasy.

Hellgate London....?? Anyways I really hope Blizz new mmo is not ANOTHER fantasy based mmo.../sigh.
My hopes are on Bioware's new mmo!!

Maybe this will help :

Maybe blizzard should work on getting an expansion out faster than once every 18 months instead of a new game....

In general, people don't considering rushing expansions a good thing.
In general, people don't considering rushing expansions a good thing.
I second that. The people wanting to rush things are the same people then crying because it was rushed.

I suspect it will be an Activision IP. However, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was Diablo.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

It will be another level/class grindfest with bogus combat where 8 year old kids are on a level playing field with adults, just like WoW. No thanks.
Tecmo Bowl.
