Returning the game...

So, say if I can't find a buddy key but I really want to test the game out on my computer, running at lowest specs possible... So I go buy the game and try it out but unfortunately it doesn't run good at all. Do you think the average Wal-mart employee is going to give me any crap if I return the game, being an MMO which unvalidates the retail key after one use?

    Yes.

Let the buyer beware.... read whats on the website of AoC, read the part that lists computer specs... make an intelligent decision.

not only will they give you crap about it. They simply wont let you.  No one will. Good luck on that.

Also, why didn't you do a graphics test on the game first? They had a program to show you if your system could handle it or not.  That's a LOT of money to spend just to see if it would work when you could have done it for free on their site.

    BTW, what are your specs?

I would not hold breath for buddy keys, probably be a week or two before Funcom allows them

I know of no one who will take returns on any type of computer software, games or not.  Some places will buy used games, but not MMO games.   If you doubt your computer specs, then most likely it won't run well for you.  Check the forums at the main site and here to see what people have been able to run it on, then make your judgment.

Btw. Nadia I would not go completely by that site to judge what can and can't run.  It says my Windows XP Pro 64 bit barely meets the minimum.  LOL and also it says my brand new ATI top line card passes minimums but fails Recommended.   A nice site to get an idea, but not a great one as its design favors Nvidia and Windows Vista and gives recommendations to buy those same programs.

It wouldn't hurt to try as most of the Walmart staff aren't the brightest. I've exchanged WoW back then twice times saying that the cd-key "didn't work." Returning is another story though with PC games.. even though everything else in the store can be returned even without a receipt.

Hell, I've returned dog food because my dog didn't like it.

true, you can return pretty much anything at Wal*Mart, but they got smart with software and you can only go to the Customer Return.

The absolute best case scenario is you'll be able to exchange it for the same exact game. That's it.

Depends on If you care to lie or not. Take it to another Wal Mart you did not buy it from, tell them it doesn't work and  you want the same thing. So you get a brand new game ....return it to the wal Mart you originally bought it from saying you got it as a gift or whatever and already have it. They will give you a full refund or at the very least a card to use at Wal Mart.

If you don't want to lie ...then no they will ntot take it back.

That tactic doesnt work either, lol.  When you exchange it for the same game they will open the packaging and the security tape right in front of you and then give it to ya. lol, I'm telling ya, they've figured all that out.

You can try, but the odds of you succeding will be rare.  :)

Ive done it several times it works. Never ran into any problems. Perhaps the key is doing it when the electronics manager is out? I dunno.

You can but it has to be unused. I really don think It would make sense anyway to sell a game , let a person use it , then return it for a full refund?

  • LocklainLocklain Member Posts: 2,154

When I bought a game I didn't like I would cut a circle out of packaging tap and put it over the end to make it look like it was never opened.  You can also take it to a video store (if you know the employees) and have them reshrink-wrap the box.

    It's a Jeep thing. . .

game stores in the UK allow you to return a game even if u used it provided disc in perfect condition etc. thats how it used to be anyway i havent returned anything for a number of years. u can just pirate the fook outa the disc then return it (edit: within 2 weeks i think was rule at Game)

  • mindspatmindspat Member Posts: 1,367

Is the game only availble on DVD or is there a 20 disc CD-ROM retail version?

About 2 years ago I purchased Dungeons & Dragons Online 2 days after launch.  I got home, tore open the box with enough force to split the box down the front.  I was just getting prepared to rip open the plastic on the cd jewel box when I noticed "DVD".

Well, I didn't have a DVD drive in my PC at the time.  I was a little concerned since the box was absolutely destroyed in my haste and now I had a game I couldn't install.  I called the store, which was 3 block and a 10 minute walk away, and they agreed to "have a look at it".

I brought it back in and after 3-4 questions asking my reason of getting a DVD box and then tearing it open they felt my reason was just; thought I had brought the CD-ROM version to the registere and excitement trumped logic to check.

Electronics Boutique swapped it for the proper disc version, gave me an entirely new unopened box, yet looked dissapointed that they were now going to have to junk the box I returned...with an unused key.

You're better off waiting a few days for free buddie keys or go to a smaller shop where they could be more familar to your face.

I don't know if they still allow this they have signs in the store telling you to check you meet the requirements because they won't take it back if you leave the shop with it and then discover it doesn't run.  They even ask you this at the till, in fact they treat you like a downright idiot asking you if you knew which console type it was for and stuff because they won't take that as an excuse to bring back a game either.  They especially won't take back an MMO where you used the code to make an account already.  That'd be stupid, really really stupid.

That test lab thing is garbage, My computer reaches Rec, yet I have to play on the lowest settings and still only get 20 FPS MAX

It doesn't specifically favor Nvidia and Vista.  The game does.  Age of Conan is designed to run on vista and on Nvidia.  So the Recommended specs are going to want Vista or else you will fail automatically.  It is a flagship "Game for Windows" game.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

So maybe the reason im having FPS issues and have to play on low even though I pass rec is because I use ATI? : /

I've returned Computer games, including EQ2 before. I've returned a couple single player games to Wal-mart in Newport News, VA and a MMORPG to the Army PX. I'd never try that with Gamestop or anything, because they know better. I just told them the games weren't working and they took them back. The average non-gaming store employee doesn't know anything about computer games and the keys required to activate them.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

    Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.
