I find it strange that the official forums are 'hidden' to those who are not currently paying customers.
I had expected to be able to read the forums, but not post so that I could get a clear picture of what's going on.
This is yet another thing Funcom has done which puts me off the game even more, all along it's just been like they're hiding things.
I followed AoC hardcore for years and way back it sounded like the perfect game... anyway that rant isn't for here, what's up with hiding the forums?
Comments
Who knows, they don't even hide the Anarchy Online forums from the public. Probably just one of many bad PR moves.
Mne eto nado kak zuby v zadnitse.
Love the game atm, but agree with OP. They should let all READ the forum but only subscribers post. I'd love to check out the American forums but am stuck with just the European. Hoping they will change that.
Funcom said they will allow the public read it soon. I'm guessing they're using the same excuse that they want people to settle in both ingame and forum before they decide others join the game with buddy keys and read the forums to clog up bandwidth
This sounds pretty strange to me. While it could be that they are trying to quell would be a huge flood of people right after and just before launch, it sounds more like damage control and that they're expecting something that they don't want non-subscribers to see.
Can anyone with official forum access say whether the comments are generally good or bad? If I can't read comments about the game on the official forum, I'm definitely not going to buy it.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
They dont want the non-buyers read the forums and get scared of buying the game.
There should be nothing to hide at this stage.
On these forums you still can't be sure who's paying to play or who's trolling, at least on the official forums you know the people posting there are actually playing the game.
It is already announced that the forums will be open (read-only) for everybody in the coming few days.
Do you happen to know why they decided not to make them public from the start?
Somebody already posted the announcement and the reasoning on another thread in these forums. I can't seem to be able to find it.
because they didnt want to air their dirty laundry
atm they have a huge problem with stuck characters which they dont want to get out to the general public
oops it is now
being secret often backfires
I missed that one.
Oh well, onwards and upwards.
Do you happen to know why they decided not to make them public from the start?
think it right thing too do.
have foruns for ppl are playing the game.

Yes, only people who pay to play should be able to post, but the forums should be readable by everyone.

Pre-order Accounts Getting Frozen
These pre-order accounts are also blocked from accessing the forums as they are only available for customers with currently active game accounts (which right now the pre-order accounts without a valid retail-key are not)
This is actually correct behaviour of the billing system. As soon as the servers have been opened for launch, these customers will have to enter a valid retail-key in order to unfreeze their accounts and get access to the game servers and the forums.
We will open read access to the forums for everybody soon. But it will always be that only customers with valid game accounts will be allowed to write posts and engage in discussions with the community.

As far as i know, the forums will be read only to the public soon.
Im happy if they keep it read only and only give players the option to write.
all commercial mmos do that - only let subsribers post
but only HellGate London, hid their forums from nonsubscribers, until a few months ago
- and we all know how that game went
Funcom should make those forums READABLE -NOW-
its only more egg on their face for people looking to get support for the game
People are having problems creating an account due to what Funcom did to any cancelled Preorder
and people cannot get help for creating an account, without reading the forums
--- which is currently impossible

Just to set the record straight I never expected to be able to post without having an active account, that would just invite trolls.
And keyloggers.
No big deal - it was posted on the official forums for people actually playing the game.
only account holders should be able to view and post on the forums, it keeps the kiddies out that are just there to flame.

It also keeps potential customers out that are there to gather information. But to each his own, maybe you dont like populated mmos
and your reasoning for restricting VIEW ONLY access?

Fucom's communication with its community is about as truthful and straighforward as that of the old Kremlin.
Why can't a decent game be developed by a decent company.
EA, SOE, now Funcom. At least Turbine & Blizzard still have some respect left in my book.

Never argue with idiots. They are immune to logic.

Maybe the kiddies can now somehow flame using only the view function?---------------------------------------------------------
