Bear shaman is by far the worse 1 - 20 class of any mmorpg EVER. I mean from the days of UO to proba

The bear shaman of AOC is 100x worse than playing a WoW hunter from 1 - 20 with no pet, no bow, just a 1 handed weapon. My god this is the worse 1 - 20 class of all time. Though i am told it gets much better at level 25. Im currently level 13 and i cant even take on two mobs 2 levels below my level. I am royally getting my ass kicked. My gears been upgraded, i tried every tactic, and god forbid if i dont have to go up against a mob that melees and another that has agroed me and is a ranger. I am getting straight up whooped. I hope it pays off i really do.

Though the necromancer seems like its pure awesome, i was grouped with two guys at a temple and the one guy was a necromancer and all of a sudden we were surrounded by picts and had no clue what to do when the necro casted a fatality on one of the picts and this HUUUGE monster came from his corpse and started mowing down every enemy in his path, it was pure awesomeness.

A tip,  dont put any feat points in your heal line for a while. Get your first feat skill or talent that helped myself al lot on a PoM.

Interesting.  My son rolled a Bear shaman and got him to level 12 last night and he had your same experience.  He was cursing the entire time as he rolled through the volcano, and he died many times.

Contrast that with me on a Tempest of Set who had no issues at all with dying until I got to the volcano, when I took few due to carelessness on my part, unfamiliarity w/controls, and not using my skills properly. Once I got the hang of it, I rolled through it as well.

Now one thing I did that he didn't.  As I did the earlier quests, I always killed every mob.  I never skipped any, if one could be killed, I killed it.  This left me about 1 level ahead of him when I entered the volcano area, so perhaps that was the real factor that made my road easier.

He got pretty frustrated, maybe I'll suggest he try making a necromancer and see if he enjoys that better.

every class has the ability to shine if played correctly. Some start off pretty weak, and don't "come into it" until after level 20.

    BS is one of them.

I remember someone saying that conquerors were weak...AS I was killing 5 mobs 2 levels higher than myself at the same time. All I could do was laugh.

Nah but the B.S has serious issues pre 20 its due to the lack of good gear, good weapon drops for us, lowest HP/melee damage of all the fighters, are spells are horrible the heal DOT does NOTHING to help.

Bear Shamans are a pain to play up until Level 15, when they get their first bit of Love in the form of a whole bunch of skills and spells. You get additional heals and so on and so forth.

Starting Level 15, I rolled through just about anything including the second Volcano like a steamroller and it only got worse. The damage you deliver on this baby is huge if you have an up to date weapon and the feats correctly allocated.

Sure, you have to watch how many you pull and three is about the max, but otherwise, hellsyeah.

As for pre-level 15....pull through there. Grit your teeth and get to 15. Your life will be easier a little then. XD As I hear the real love starts at 25, but 15 helped me personally a lot.

Note: I played a BS in Beta, so those are my experiences from there.

Lol trust me I am gritting my teeth so hard they are almost shatted but i only have 2 more levels to go  till 15

Damn, that was the class that intrigued me the most and probably the first I was going to try upon buying..

I'm a sucker for a hybrid that can swing huge weaponry.. The only way it could be better is if they used Wolves as their aspect instead of bears.

.. But in a good way.

Yah, I even had trouble with Volcano with my guard, that place will move to your level, so being a level higher doesn't help, unless you happen to have gotten some killer new piece of gear or ability in that level.

Until last night at 19, I had hard times with nay healer mobs and had trouble soloing my way upto the top where the bat demon is in the ruins, after I hit 19, all of those problems disappeared and now they aren't bothering me as much :D

While the OP is a LITTLE harsh on the bearsham, I too have been frustrated with how little damage I can do against 2 mobs of the same level. It wouldn't be so bad if I could pick off one at a time at the volcano but the mobs come in pairs and unless everything go exactly as planned (no parries or blocks) I end up dead often.

Unless I am missing something, but at level 12, I only have one heal and it is so insignificant that it never alters the outcome of a fight. The bearsham is supposed to be a dps healer combo... as of right now I have neither dps nor heals.

I do plan on sticking it out though.

Hmm..Conquerers do sound strong, I 'm sure my Tempest of Set can't handle that sort of action....pretty much limited to about 3  same level mobs..and one had better not be a ranged caster.

Roll a Necro lol.  I am having a blast... The Necromancer is alot like the Necromancer from Diablo 2.

At lvl 21 - I can solo 3 lvl 22 non boss mobs without issues, I have little health and little mana but they are all dead.  I am now lvl 22.. Took about an hour to lvl last night.

See how it goes but so far I am loving my Necromancer and once I get my lifetaps I see it getting even better.

Lvl 22 - I can summond 3 pets plus pets that come with abilities plus my pet from my Finishing move.... Last night I had my own personal army of 8 pets at one point.

P.S. Watch out for your AoE as a necromancer, if you use it to close to other players.  I got into it with someone last night because of it, I used my AoE , did not see him behind me and he killed me while I was trying to kill a boss.

I told my son about your advice regarding a necro....he said he might roll one today to see how it is, however he's willing to stick it out with the BS until after level 20 to see if it improves.

I didn't have a problem with my Bear Shaman, I have one up to 20. I've been taking a few classes all the way through Tortage.

I actually had a LOT more trouble with my Necromancer. Didn't seem to have anything the whole time 'cept Flesh to Worms and that one Pestilence deal. The unholy channeling damage thing was a great relief...but pure suicide 'til the 5 minute damage reduction buff. Then it was alright.

Bear Shaman though? Got along just fine, just a well as my Guardian. Not as well as my Herald of Xotli.

Play styles I suppose. Sequence of doing quests in Tortage matters a good deal too when it comes to difficulty or lackthereof.

I'm a 16 Bear Shaman right now, and I can take on two mobs my own level -- so long as I fight intelligently.

Pay attention to the enemy's shields when using combos (the armor crush combo especially can do huge damage), always use Renewal (and Blood Flow), and position yourself to hit both mobs at once. It's when my positioning is off and one is a mage that I can get smoked.

If one of the two mobs that agroed you is an Archer or Mage, use Sprint to get to him -- if the melee is out in front, run behind the archer/mage so that the two bunch up, and just lay into the combos.

I died a LOT between 8-10 or so as I learned how to deal with it, but you'll get the hang of it. The fighting system in AoC will take active thought to master. A good thing, but the adjustment is a pain. ;)

Few tips for Bear shaman: One) Keep Autoface off, and this is true for any melee class. This makes it much easier to hit multiple opponents. Two) Keep your renew up and blood flow before you rush in, and remeber to keep them up when ever you have the chance. Bear through it all ^_^ and you will be very happy even after lvl 15. But like everyone else is saying, 25+ is where Bear Shaman really shines. I dropped playing my barb for this class. I can usually take 4-6 mobs no problem (sometimes using a potion)

Really give this class a shot if you really think it's something you would like to play. Don't base it on the 1-20 levels. Plus, once you get that high and you do relize you might not like BS, it's not that long to get lvl 20.

    Hope some of this helped.
