That system above would barely play AoC. Throwing a bunch of cheap components together, a good gaming computer does not make. Suggestion, avoid making gaming computers for friends, you will lose them as friend fast.
First off, the system will run just fine. It may not be Ultra High video settings on something like AoC, but its not going to be bare minimum dragging at 10 fps.
Second, the task was to build a 'budget' gaming machine. My 3 key factors were price ($900), upgradability and it needed an LCD monitor. The LCD sucked up a huge amount, which meant I went with lower processing and RAM.
Third, the machine is sitting on my desk. This was not built for a 'friend'. My friends build their own PCs. The only people I build PCs for is my family, and they just get run of the mill, web-browsing and word-processing machines.
Fourth, just because I used technology that is 2 years old, doesn't make them 'cheap'. ASUS Motherboard, Crucial RAM, AMD chip, Maxtor HD, Sony Burner, Logitech Input devices. All that remained was the Monitor and Tower/Power. Neither of which are critical when it comes to needing brand name.
Lastly, you can take your elitism and go play with yourself. If I was running with the funds I did for my last machine, then I would be looking at higher-end components. But again the name of the game with this one was a 'budget' gaming machine. And the post was also to show that you don't need $1500 to build a decent machine from the ground up.
Well nobody likes to be forced to upgrade but that's just the way it is. If you can't afford it or you just don't want to spend somuch money then you will have to stick with older games or look for another hobby.
My advice is to build your own pc's. You can build it exactly the way you want and upgrading comes cheaper to because you get exactly what you need when you need. Comes cheaper then the whole alienware/dell crap.
Oh yeah I have overclocked my cpu by 30% and my gpu by 15%. Another way to save a bit...

No one likes to be forced to do anything. At the risk of sounding like an ass, people are not happy unless they get their way. This goes for gaming as well as just about everything else in life.

Someday you'll understand, free time is the most precious commodity most working adults have, and its worth really can't be measured in dollars.

First, to the OP: Are you a non-native English speaker [well, writer actually] or just a slacker? If you wish to be taken seriously in the English reading world, you need to learn proper grammar. I realise that even with spell check available errors happen, but your errors are of common usage and not typos. As an example, the topic of this thread should be: "If you're a pc gamer, then you should have a good pc." Hopefully, you will learn something at the university that you are attending.
On Topic: I think Vanguard is a great example of how letting the hardware drive the software is foolish. They concentrated too much on style and not enough on substance - it may have looked great on bleeding edge pc's, but it still ran like crap, even on those same pc's. WoW and LOTRO did much better by releasing with specs that were capable of running on a "last year's" pc. Both of the MMO's that I currently play [DDO & LOTRO] run fine on my 2002 desktop - 2.2Gb Pentium 2[3?] with 1G RAM and an nVidia 4400 card. There are many other games - even some currently released like <doh! Brain fart! - the newish game from Stardock> - that play well on older, lower spec pc's. Hell, some can even be played on Macs!
The fun is in how a game plays, not how high the specs are for it nor how pretty it looks. Just like women...

vanguard is just badly programmed...should run fine on lower graphical setting on most computers. but it does not.
also does it really matter how my grammar is. you understood what i meant. anyway im kinda dyslexic when i comes to spelling
I want 2d graphics again! AND AND I want really bad 2d graphics, so my PC can run it
Actually, no I don't
If graphics were never updated, then we would still be playing MUDs or 2d games.
lol
people are weird....they like to pretend they are true gamers and say graphics dont matter at all..when in reality..they do matter allot...
Why do you think we pretend? Because you cant believe that someone would disagree with you? Rather arrogant wouldnt you say? Graphics may matter to the majority of kiddies and non serious pc gamers out there but there are some of us who really really really just dont hardly give two shits as to how a game looks as long as the gameplay is good. That is the single biggest problem with games these days, they are all eye candy and no substance. And that is why i will always be happy to play old games i know are good than new ones which look 'better' but suck.
Now im not saying graphics dont matter completley, as i wouldnt really want to be playing a game that involves just dots on a screen but i would much rather play a new, for example, fps with the graphics of half life 1 than i would a bad fps with top of the range graphics these days. I used to play (and still do occasionally) Quake 3 and i got to a quite competitive level and was pretty good and i have still yet to play an fps thats come anywhere near close since its release so why in the hell would i want to play a newer game just because the graphics are a lot better? If anything, youre the one who sounds like a non serious pc gamer who is swayed by the flashy lights blinking in your eyes.
Gamers shouldn't be the only ones responsible for making sure their computer can run a game. I mean if we just whore ourselves to the companies through buying upgrades and new rigs they will never try to make work arounds so that the graphics look good and run smooth. For around 50$ a game and maybe even a subscription fee I want to be able to eat my cake and have it too, without lag.

if a new game comes out with crappy graphics... ( i mean like vanguard) then i will not play it. if a game uses an older graphics engine and uses it well i will hold nothing against it and still play...as long as it is made well...
like i said...i still play 2D rpg for hours on end... FFV is one of my fav games of all time..and i never get tiered of it...
Graphics and audio that can be harsh on lower end systems can be substituted with older style graphics and lower quality audio if done properly. If graphics and audio are tuned down what does the consumer get in return? Lower price, better gameplay, less loading time, longer storyline are all viable options.
Neither one of these games break technological records. Beyond Good & Evil wasn't even cutting edge when it was released. Neither of these games requires an uber system to run. Both of these games games are GOOD.
Pay particular attention to Everyday shooter. That's the future of PC gaming. Small, no budget games that are made by a single developer for the purpose of exploring what can be done with gameplay. The best stuff on the PC is freeware or budget priced indie games. For AAA titles, I'm gonna have go with consoles.
im tiered of seeing people complaining about games havening to high system requirements...if your a serious pc gamer then you will keep your computer updated...to run games. also...keeping a pc updates is not that expensive...sure the initial cost is pretty expensive ... but for the next couple years you really will not spend that mush on updates(if any)...(unless your a pc enthusiast) also pc games give you tweaking options...for those with lower end rigs...
its like a console gamers will keep updated with the latest consoles...i don't see people with ps2 complaining at the lack of new games for it...
Ridicolous statement. 500 dollars each 6 months to play games is NUTS. And BTW I am VERY statisfied you were being banned by Blizzard. )
and you don't need to spend that every 6 months..more like every two years you obviously know nothing.
also i was unbanned from wow...u sad little man ...
Sorry but I tend to agree with Housam. A game/MMO musty have both Graphics and content to get my money. Plus the fact I love to build my PC every couple of years or so is just one more element I truely enjoy in our hobby. I've been gaming since the genre first started in the 80's. Absolutely love it! Both in terms of the how our games are progressing and the eye candy we have now.

Personally, if your a serious PC gamer - one who knows what they are doing - you would be able to make smart purchases, not necessarily make the latest greatest purchases ( that would just mean you really don't know what you are doing, and just buying what is the most expensive, most advertised products). You'd be able to get the most out of your rig with spending as little money as possible - ideally speaking.
Now there are those people who feel they have to have the latest products as soon as they come out. But they are more inclined to be on the pc enthusiast side and not really gaming. Its not like we have new games, demanding the best products to be even playable being released every 2 months. Games like that come out once in a while - as we have been having.
And school can be a bitch to deal with too...
[EDIT]
Ya, graphics are an important part of a gaming experience personally. But that doesn't mean that it out weighs content; a delicate balance of about 35% -40% / 60% content
