CoH is by far the most repetitve game.....

grusummergrusummer Member Posts: 17
I played this game for like 2 weeks tops and got to lvl 20 on a scrapper and in that amout of time i must have fought like 5 total gang types, hellion, skull, CoT, Vazarok, and clock.....combat is really slow, EVERY MISSION, if it looks like an office building or a multi player mission if they are in offices like what 85% or more you get the same EXACT mission map that you just had its in a ware house its the same layout....etc, i probably quit earlier because this game is like the movie Groundhogs Day...image

.......................um.......this has the best combat of any MMO out there aside from maybe Planetside and EndlessAges.....

Mainly because you DONT just sit there and WATCH your character fight, as you do in almost all other MMOs.

Not that those MMOs are bad... I play a few of them myself... but they would be BETTER if the combat part wasnt boring.

THAT is the main selling point of CoH....

I admit it does have more complex fighting than a lot of mmos but I dont play point & click games, try playing AC2 AC1 or Anarchy Online the fighting in all those games especially AC2 are very well built, in comparison to this game...

Never went to Dark Astaria? Never did missions around your level? you probably just did street hunting? Never hunted tsoo in Talos Island?

I'm surprised your 20th level. What server were you on? I'll show you around to some of the more "exotic" areas.

Edit** As for combat speed, of the MMO I've played (Earth and Beyond, SWG, Knights Online, Eve, WoW beta) That are not FPS, CoH has the fastest, interactive combat that doesn't involve click and watch

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

By level 20 there are no more Hellions, Skulls or Vahz.  You should have encountered The Lost, Outcasts, Tsoo, Trolls and 5th Column by now.

I don't believe you actually got that far, TBH...

I have been playing CoH since just before release, and can honestly tell you it has not become repetitive for me.  This is for a simple reason - I still have not even come close to trying out all of the power sets, let alone the archetypes, available in the game.

I love the game for it's simplicity and fun-factor.  I have never been involved in another MMORPG that allows you to play for 10-hour sessions with a team, or 1 hour sessions solo, and still have fun.  I guess it all comes down to what you make of it.

You should have also had cave, 5th column bunker and tech lab missions.

You got to lvl 20 right?.... well if you actually took the Time to Get further you would know that there are at least double the amount of mobs to fight in this game. And i can guarantee you are incorrect about the 85% being the same mission map.... there are hundreds of different maps out there and it is all random depending on what mission you have. It is people like you who try to make a good game look bad because ONE LITTLE PART doesn't Satisfy your needs and so you have to exagerate about every little thing that you dislike. Try to look at the better part of this game and stop trying to make peoeple think that this is REpetitive. If you are on a team the mob number changes depending on how many people you have on it. Next time of try to make a Awesome game look bad try to have more factual statements to back up your opinion. Because i can guarantee that there are tons of people that can prove you wrong.

Actually a lot of what he said is factual if maybe a little exaggerated. This game is incredibly repetitive. Name one time you logged in and didn't see a map you have already seen before. Name one time you logged in and did something besides beat up a bad guy. Sure the mobs may look different, but that's about it. Hell go to the CoH message boards and there are hundreds of posts saying the same thing. Heck even self-proclaimed fanboi's on this site will tell you this game is boring if you play it too much.

You like the game and that's great have fun, but don't come flaming without some substance to back it.

  • SlntasnSlntasn Member Posts: 711
Yes i see the same maps every now and then, but at lvl 20 (probably not a lvl wo since he only played for 2 weeks) the game cant get as repetitive as he outs it... there is still new zones that he has to get to a certain lvl to get to along with new mobs to fight. This game only gets repetitive when you play it for a realy long time... Then again what MMORPG doesnt?

    Repetitive is subjective to:

    A- Your personnal tolerance.

B- How you play a game.

Personnally I found this game less repetitive then EQ or DAoC.

The fights are extremely fast and dizzying me.  I cant understand how you say the fights are slow, they are so fast I am not sure I will be able to bear the TF system, which I can live without because I can attain my goals others(less effificients) ways.

I am not sure I have ever been in a ''med break'' for more then 15 seconds, this is not even long enought to take a cola...in EQ, I can make a lunch, eat it, and still wait on my mana(or endurance, whatever ways you want to call it).

PS: Play the game in a KOTOR style, not a EQ or DAoC style for your point of view.

PPS: The game system is simpler then EQ or DAoC, maybe you carve for a more complex game system, with more customisation on the character itself rather then on the look...maybe in the future...they never say they will not add some new zones with new stuff that apply only there(they need to make sure they keep the old game intact at all point and never make it trivial like EQ did).

Name an MMO that isnt repetitive in one way or another. All mmo's are at some point. There is not one game coming out that WONT have a level grind.

This game has a ton of potential and those of us who are patient will enjoy it.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

I am what most would consider a hardcore gamer. I 3-4 hours a day on weekdays, and close around 7-8 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I played SWG like this for a year before I got burned out on it. I played CoH for 2 weeks before I didn't feel like logging in anymore.

  • legolas9222legolas9222 Member Posts: 4
What is the combat in CoH like? The boring combat is one reason i stoped SWG. I thought i might get this game but im not sure if i will.

I agree wit this game being repetitve, i have played it in beta and then all the way trough lvl 24. Yea i fought all those ppl including the family, warriors..etc. it was the same missions over and over again jus wit different gangs, go in a kill everyone and beat the boss of the mission. The only kewl mission i ever saw was when i helped my supergroup kill an archvillain. This is a great game if u like how simple it is and there is no crafting. It will start off great and if u are in a supergroup more fun.

I have been playing since just before live, and not felt the game become repetitive yet - UNLESS you are the type that likes to powerlevel.  If that is the case, and you skip missions, etc., you will be bored FAST.  Getting sidekicked and hunting group after group, or worse, sitting at a gate while someone else kills, is VERY boring and repetitive.

However, me and my friends, and my SG, always have some event planned, whether it be a trek through the abandoned sewer network, or an assault on a particular zone, etc.  Even mission nights, where we form a few groups and do each others missions.  So far, never been bored.  There are some AMAZING things to see and fight after lvl 20 - Oranbega maps are mind-blowing, and always different depending on group size.  Sewer network is always fun, with many different mobs, each of which takes different tactics to defeat.  I really think it is not the design or content of the game that does this, but rather the community of friends you play with.  Maybe I have been lucky in meeting so many good players, some of which have become actual friends.

So don't blast a game as boring or repetitive if you have only really played 1/3 of the content - when you hit 50, then you can post an objective critique.  To the rest of you who are wondering about all of this - try it and see, but make sure you make the game into what YOU want from it, not vice versa.

What you have is a chat service with some cool graphics. It's not the game that's fun, it's the people you hang around. If you had the same type of group with any game you would enjoy it. Don't say a game is great if you need a bunch of friends to make it fun.

Jodokai, with all due respect to your opinion, what is the point of an MMORPG if not to make it a social experience? No one is saying you HAVE to of course, but if you don't want that sort of thing, why play an MMORPG in the first place? I mean, there are some pretty darn good single-player games out there for that purpose.  Or am I misunderstanding your point? Not trying to flame or anything, just stating what I thought was an obvious fact.

I think the fast pace action is its main selling point.

Though i think the lack of loot makes every encounter a bit more boring.

  • Cik_AsalinCik_Asalin Member Posts: 3,033

I got pretty far with CoH and even beta tested it.  I also think it is by far one of the most repetitive, redundent, mind-numbing, non-replayable with mirror image content at every level with little to no content diversity, mainstream mmorpg on the market. . .its fast fighting system just accelerated my feeling of redundency.  Every mmorpg has some degree of repetitiveness, but the good ones supplement it with meaningful and diversive quest system, dynamic story-lines, etc.  All the CoH missions are exactly the same for the most part which just exacerbates the feeling of repetitiveness as well I think.

Beautiful abilities, graphics, lop-sided PvE linear fighting system and character customization.

So there is good and bad.  But imho the borish bad far outweigh the good.  I couldnt personally justify paying money for something that offers absolutely no replayability, unless your into the gerbal wheel sort of thing.  But hey...thats me.

I actually like CoH, its one of my favorite MMORPGs, I ended up playing it longer than any other MMO, about 5 months to be exact, even longer than FFXI, 2 months, DAOC, 1 month, EverQuest, 2 days

all Rpgs get repetitive after a while but CoH had a battle system that was actually fun, so it made it feel not so repetitive, then again all I want to do in an RPG is kill stuff anyway, I never liked crafting, so my view is kinda biased

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

No worries I don't feel flamed at all image

My point is this: A trip accross Texas on Interstate 10 has to be one of the most boring trips in existence. I don't think anything could be worse than this...but if you throw 2 or 3 of you best buddies in the car with you laughing and joking, the trip can actually be fun. What you're doing is still boring, but the people there are cool to hang out with.

I hope that explains my point about a cool looking chat service. Now, as far as why I play an MMO as opposed to a single player game, this is where we get to why I really despise this game:

I play MMO's to have an effect on the enviornment. I've played SWG longer than any other MMO so I'll use that as my base for comparison.

In SWG they had monthly stories where if the rebels won, they saw the beneift in increased faction points for faction missions. They had an effect on the enviorment and felt like you accomplished something. In CoH you may get some NPC's in an instanced dungeon that quake in fear of your name. In SWG you get PLAYERS that will say, "Oh poop! That's Rzzq in that raiding party" (no I'm not Rzzq he's just the best PvPer I know), or you get players saying, "If you want the best guns go see Troll" You effect the enviornment. If Troll left the game people would know. Not just his friends, people that have never seen him in person would know that his shop was gone, and the server lost one of it's best Weaponsmiths.

Horizons, if they had be able to do their original idea with the creeping withered zones, would have been awesome at this feeling. CoH you can never, and will never effect anything. Street sweep for days and you'll never see a decrease in crime. You can defeat that master villian all you want, he'll still be there the next time.

SWG also has mission that you can't do anymore. This may stink for the new comer, but it makes the people who have been around awhile feel like, "yeah I was there, I fought that fight and we won."

It's little things like this that, IMO make an MMO an MMO and not a single player game with a multiplayer option (which I feel CoH is).

  • DabruuzerDabruuzer Member UncommonPosts: 123

Fair enough - and I respect your point and opinion. I guess I just take a different view of it. Going along with your analogy, the trip across Texas with my friends would BE the point of me going in the first place, not the destination.  But that's why they make differfent roads (games) for different drivers (players). image

Maybe there will be a game that does both things for both types of players one day, btu I haven't found it yet.

I played CoH for about 3 months and by the time I cancelled my account, the game bored me to tears. It was a blast for about a month or so, then it starts to get boring. All of the missions seem the same and the missions maps are repeated over and over and over. The character customization was awesome though. I would spend hours just playing around with it. The game runs very smooth too. I had hardly any lag and the servers are stable. It would be a great game if it had more content. I just got bored when I ran out of things to do. I got tired of defeating X amount of villains in such and such building. It's not a bad game at all, it just needs content, plain and simple.

Now let me ask you the same question: Why do you play MMO's? If iit's mostly for the social aspects, wouldn't it be just as good, and cheaper, if you just played a single player game with multiplayer options?

I know I've said this before, but I keep hoping it will happen: If they made this game a single player game and had the option to create your own stories a la Neverwinter Nights, this would be the BEST game ever created. The could make a fortune off of selling the game and then selling modules. Heck they could make it where all you did was buy it and then download it from the internet. It would have almost no overhead and be pretty much straight profit...Hmm anyone know how to make PC games, I have this great idea ::::40::
