I was very excited to play this game .... and downloaded the FREE 7 day trial from Fileplanet.

I can sadly say I cancelled the next day because of the enormous loading times between zones in the game even on low detail level. Why does it take so long (sometimes up to a minute) to load an area from the hard disk into system memory. I dont have this trouble with Anarchy Online on high detail, or PristonTale on High Detail.

This made the game extremely unplayable for me. I'm sure once I got into the game then it would capture my heart, but im not prepared to spend more time waiting for zones to load than actually playing the game!!!

Sorry DAoC, you need to review your minimum specs to run this game. It seems thats I meet these specs and the game is performing poorly. A shame.

Very true, I originally tried this game on only 256 RAM, and that made the loading times immense.  If I was going into a new zone, I'd go out into the kitchen, refill my drink and see how the weather was out standing on the deck for a minute.

it only gets worse as you get more expereienced in the game. As you get to higher levels you face the class imbalance and population imbalance problems. Then just when you think your done pveing - you gotta go get Toa and artifacts and scrolls and level up the artifacts. PVE grind from hell all over again .

I get 5-15 sec load times on full graphics running TOA.. but my comp rocks :P
Even if your system isn't all that hot it shouldn't take to long. I play doac on my POS laptop to and it loads fine.

Get more ram is all I can guess

I have a sneaky feeling that the last time Martuk defragged his hard drive was the summer of '00.

Do some computer maintenance and buy more ram if you have less than 512. You shouldn't even be attempting to play modern-ish games with anything less.

DAoC load times are fine for the majority, it seems. I never hear any complaints about it.

Errrmmm..... you're correct that I may not have had enough RAM but DAoC states the recommended spec is and I quote from DAoC FAQ on their website:

    PIII 1ghz
    256mb RAM or higher
    32mb 3D accelerated video card

I have all those requirements, plus the game was installed on a PC bought from my local store only a few days ago so don't go spouting **** (insert as applicable) about me not knowing how to defrag my hard drive as that is not the case.

Besides calling DAoC modern is laughable anyway. image
