So you get an e-mail from the store you bought Age of conan from telling you that age of conan should be waiting for you at home. So you get home, you open the door, run up to your appartment and look at the floor.
There is is in a nice shining red envelope, you open the envelope and spend the next 3 hours installing and patching the game. You go ingame ... you type in your username and password, and you can't log in because europe isn't ready for the next 3 days!!!!!
So I needed to get that out of my system... only good thing is that you guys get all the bugs, the patches and the downtime while I just patch and wait until my time starts flawlessly
Comments
the only reason the game came out 3 days late is not to see bugs. but because in Europe new games and movies traditionally come out on Fridays and in the US they cone out Tuesdays
Anyways ... doesn't change the fact that we'll have had the 3 first days of bug fixing while the US servers had alot of downtime and patches

I can't speak for the rest of Europe, but I can speak for Denmark, because I live there.Games here are released on different days and not just fridays. They are mostly released on weekdays though and more seldom during the weekend.
Just for fun and giggles, a little infomercial: EQ2 was released in 2004, November the 8th. That was a monday, which is neither a tuesday or a friday :P
But perhaps SoE just like to be odd ducks, heh.
Yeah, sucks to be you. With the free college tuition (in some countries) till you're like 30, 36 hour mandated work weeks (vs my 56 hour ones), cheap Benz's and a better health care system.
Oh, but we get early MMO releases and cheaper gasoline prices.... oh wait...that won't be true much longer either.

we dont get past the second line because we are to busy laughing at your cat. Damn ur cruel hehe.
NO is it great to be european, we don´t have Bush and we don´t have dollars, this is GREAT
Yep, and don't forget that the Euro subscriptions are 30% more expensive.
Monthly subscitpion prices:
US 15$
UK 17.5$
EU 20$ (23$ including VAT)
Priceless.
Quoting "Europe" under one hat. It's got over 50 countries mate! In some of them, the average wage is below 300 USD a month. (ca. 600 in mine?). 90% of them have 39/40 working hours. College is not free even in post-socialist ones (in mine either). Benz is a luxury car in most of them (definitely in the biggest part) -also a LOT more expensive everywhere in Europe than in the US, trust me... Health care system - ye're kidding again, hospitals here are something like 2nd World War POW camps - and there are much worse than here. And gasoline is over 2 USD per litre (that is ca. 9 USD per gallon.
You have NO idea....

You know what a BMW 730d with a sportspacket costs 120.000 euro's that's 180.000 dollars you can buy a ferrari for that money in the USA .. we pay 80.000 euro for a Ford Mustand and 100.000 for a hummer ... that's 120.000 dollar mustang and a 150.000 dollar hummer... We pay 800.000 euro's for a downtown small appartment while you can buy a mansion for that in beverly hills (1.2Mil Dollars) And for the College tuitions ... we pay 52% taxes!!!! you only 20!!!! for 32% lower taxes I could actually BUY a school
So that's why i'm moving back to LA next year
Priceless.

2USB per litre?? I wanna live where you live ... we pay 1.64 euro for a litre of gas to that's eeeeeeh 2,46 dollar a litre...With kind regard from the Netherlands ... (amsterdam for the americans )
atleast you have the game, i ordered it overnight shipping on the 16th and still hasnt showed up, gamestop is starting to piss me off
Sigh, try to interject a little humor into a post, and everyone takes you seriously.
But speaking of seriously, you'd be surprised how our press paints things here in the US compared to Europe and elsewhere. I know you guys pay insane amounts for gasoline, however we're not quite used to it and our infrastructure isn't designed for things such as commuter trains and what not, we have to drive.
As to US health care, all we hear about is how horrible it is, and perhaps rightly so when you consider something like 40% have no insurance to help defray its cost. Let's not even get into our education system, everyone "knows" that its inferior to even third world nations. (grin)
Didn't realize you paid more for Benz's that sucks, how do they ever get away with that?
Housing, yep, I'll concede that point, in general we live in bigger homes, (not me, less than 2000 sq feet for family of 5, 2 cats, a dog and a hedgehog, however I do have a swimming pool.)
As for college tuition, I did know a bunch of gamers from Norway or Sweden and they told me they stayed in University until they were 28 because it was paid for by the govt...and there were no jobs to speak of. Most of them moved to other countries upon finally graduating. If they mis-informed me, I apologize.
As for taxes, yes, you frequently pay more, but you frequently get more. We're on our own a lot more I would suspect.
But in the end, the comment of not being able to paint Europe with one brush goes a long way to explaining why MMO's (and other stuff come out later), face it folks, its hard to coordinate a product launch across the board, so many more issues to deal with.

EU guys can still play on US servers if they bought a US version right?

Well the swedish people informed you right. ... but they live in a near communist country. They pay up to 65% taxes, they can't buy alcohol in regular stores they need to go to gouverment owned stores and pay insame amounts of money for a little bit of alcohol. resulting in brewing moonshine and drinking even more, because everybody know's it's more fun when you can't do it
Anyways .... Still moving back to good old Venice California
True, Europe is usually last to have anything released.. annoying yes but also has its advantages. The main one being that they always get the most cleaned up version of the game. Usually it's the asians that get the mmo's first followed by the US so they will encounter errors, bugs and exploits that will be fixed in the euro version.
I live in Denmark, the country (as of March) with the highest tax rate in the world, at around 66-67%. However, it's all good, free health system, education system, so on. No one's poor in Denmark unless they chose to be.
But here I am, in misery, waiting for Age of Conan to be delivered.
-----------------------------
Looking forward to: WAR, Darkfall, Earthrise,
Playing: Age of Conan
Have played: WoW, SWG, Runescape, EVE, LotR:O, ... and a lot of other MMO's.
(also, they are top class cars in most countries in Europe. Europe is not the rich 5-6 countries on the west coast only!... )

Wrong, highest tax in Europe (also, I guess, in the world): Belgium.
Second one is Hungary actually. Only difference is, that the gross wage is 5 times in Belgium than in Hungary.
Just imagine: my gross monthly is about 1400 EUR. Net is less than 800 (!!!). And I'm considered to have a well above average salary.
No, you absolutely cannot take Europe as one piece. That's not even true for the EU compare salaries in Luxembourg and Bulgaria: the difference is well over tenfold. (closer to 20-fold I'd say).
Yeah, it sucks to be in the eastern half of Europe. Wish my biggest problem was a 3-days delayed MMO launch

In Denmark you would have around 600 left. Denmark has the highest INCOME tax in the world. It just surpassed Sweden's record two months ago.

We're going offtopic, but I'm pretty sure you'd be in the lowest tax frame if you earned 1400 EUR per month in Denmark, and that would mean 38% tax only : http://www.worldwide-tax.com/index.asp#partthree
In Hungary, you get the 36% income tax if you earn more than 8000 EUR/year, and you also get 14 percent of social (pension+health care) tax, plus a lot of other small taxes, which leave you with as low as 40% of your gross payment. And that's true for a salary as low as 8000 EUR per year.
Furthermore, there is no family taxation, there is no tax relief for ANYTHING at all... I could continue, but you get the point.
Trust me, noone would want to live here

That indeeeed is true.. BUT if youre from the rich part of europe you can have one hellllll of a summervacation there for almost nothing!!! We drunk about 18 bottles of champagne in renegade bar in siofok with about 8 people and the bill was hilarious
But well, everybody's got his own complaints, just a matter of priority, the main reason I wanna go to the US of A is that I have alot of money and a high income so a pay a small fortune in taxes wich I wouldn't pay in the USA, for the money I save on taxes I could almost run a small hospital so insurances and the whole lot don't really matter anymore if you have a high income.
USA is a rich people country that takes care of those with money, europe is for average joe and the poor and it makes the rich people pay alot so the lazy ones can sit on their lazy behinds while the people who risked everything to make a good living are screwed.
So if you're poor, come to europe if your rich, go to the USA .. easy

You do realize it's not really "free" if you're paying 67% in taxes to fund it...
