So im interested in AoC, but i want to enjoy my playtime as much as possible. I have no intentions of playing with RL friends, im looking for a fresh MMO start. Basically what im asking is how are the servers in AoC? Im afraid im going to encounter a lot of "you suck lolz, go back to WoW." and i really would love not to see it. Im thinking of rolling an assassin, and i would love it if any of you guys had suggestions on classes and servers. I tend to be a nice guy and i would love to play and a pretty casual, yet nice server. Again input is appreciated.

Easily the most imature community I have ever seen in an MMORPG. Worse then World of Warcraft.
However, don't expect all the little kids to keep playing. They will probably leave after a month and more mature players will stay. Hopefully.
Ill be completely honest with you.
Ive been on four different servers and every single one of them are riddled about with WoW comments. Whether it is to say AoC sucks, WoW rules, or whether it is AoC rules, WoW sucks; its saturated with it. The maturity lvl is non existant or VERY rare. My first day on the servers I must have placed about 23 people on ignore in the first 4 hours. on WoW and EQ2 combined i have about 10 on ignore.
Some people can say "well that what happens when people get the first 30 days for free" but I have played day 1 on release on every major MMO since DaoC and this is the first MMO that is saturated with immaturity
I feels like 80% of the people on the various servers Ive been on are WoW subscribers who just cancelled their account last week. Im not saying its bad to come from WoW, but its hard to immerse yourself in this world when all you hear is WoW this and WoW that.
Also, the official funcom forums are littered with WoW discussions.
Also, I don't know if I have shitty luck or what, but people talk a lot in /OOC about wow but when you talk to them face to face they say nothing. I just got done grouping with some people. They didn't say a damn word and I was grouped with them for an hour. And believe me, I tried.
The Guild I am in is very active but im afraid its just too large for my tastes. You ask a question or make a statement and a millisecond its gone because of the way the chat system is set up.
Game is ok but it HAS A LOT OF WORK to do to get it to par. Also, for being a mature game i feel like im in WoW's Barrens chat or EQ2 lvl 1-9 chat all over again. I havent heard people throw around the word "noob" as much as I have in this game since back in my early Counter Strike days.
The social aspect needs some work.

The fact is you will get immature people in any community, saying AoC is worse than WoW is a long shot, WoW is pretty damn bad.
Of course with the nudity etc, the game will appeal to certain immature people so you have to expect it.
Having said all of that, you will always find great people to play with as well, so I don't see why you should be deterred by it at all, there are plenty of mature people out there playing (and I don't mean old people, age != maturity)

I've played on two servers and have not noticed any over the top annoyances. The server I will probably stick with is Wiccana ... if that is spelled right. By and large the most well behaved and helpful bunch of people that I've played with, and I date back to the opening if UO.
Its actually kinda creepy...i bet there are pods under the water...
pretty trash imo. seems like a bunch of whiny brats who throw a temper tantrum the moment something doesn't go their way. I can say that the mature rating certainly doesn't bring out the maturity in the playerbase.
Regardless, don't let the community stop you from playing and enjoying the game. There's always decent people among the sea of idiots.
I've been playing PVE on Dekato (sp?) or whatever its called and all the OOC chat I have been reading have been positive. Also I have no problems asking questions in chat and I get prompt helpful answers.
That is because most of the mature people are not PvP'ers. It is a sad fact but PvP'ers happen to have the lowest maturity level. I am not lumping all PvP'ers into this assessment but the vast majority of them are very immature.

The 'community' (if we can indeed lump a huge group of random people into one single group) is a very average MMORPG launch community.
It just seems to me that now all the trolls, haters, and shills (where have the majority gone now btw?) cannot attack the game itself anymore, they now seek to attack the community in an attempt to hurt this game for whatever reason. Its tragic.
Everyone I have met has been polite and friendly. Maby EU servers are different then US ones. I also don't play on a PvP server.
How's the roleplay on Wiccana? Is it existant at all?
This thread might make me want to reconsider rolling on the RP-PvP server, but I just love to PvP, and the constant danger that one faces.

Have played: WoW, SWG, Runescape, EVE, LotR:O, ... and a lot of other MMO's.
The low maturity level is to be expected in AoC. Considering that there is a MASSIVE exodus of people from WoW, youre going to get alot of WoW in the AoC chat. WoW is notorious - obviously, around people who play MMO's, and its not just in AoC either. I experienced quite a bit of WoW hate chat in the Shadowbane servers.
Remember that AoC is one of the few solid MMO's that have come out ever since WoW hit the field, so youre going to get alot of people coming to this game. Funcom rolled a HUGE gamble on this game and hopefully for them its looking as if its going to pay off (good for Funcom!)
Plus if its a PvP server then dont expect a mature community anyway. PvP is down and dirty, and to be honest, it can get even the most mature players, like me.
PvP is a competitve enviornment, so youre going to get nasty chat. PvE is cooperative, so youre going to get nice chat.
They left in sorrow and bitterness at AoC's booming success and popularity and rave early impressions despite all the work and time they put into trying to make it fail.

Yeah, I have seen so many obvious shills. They post in a nice way and even praise the game in some aspects, but slam it a lot more.As far as maturity on pvp servers, well, there are mature guilds on pvp servers. It's usually the mature vs. smack talking immature guilds battle thing going.
Yeah Cimmeria has some fairly level headed folks despite the random spawn killer. All in all, it's been better than expected even with the random immature flame fests on the global/zone OOC channel.

the community sucks pretty bad so far way worse than WOW ever was for me. also I had an easier time finding a group in Vanguard than this game. if you have the game go take a look at the official forums and you'll get a good idea of how immature everyone is. It makes me love my MMORPG.com buddies even more.

plus "go back to WOW" (or any variation of it) is no longer an insult, it has been done and then some the horse is dead. if you have read the official forums (and sometimes this one) you'll catch my drift.

Personally, I'm on the RP-PVP server Aquilonia in europe and my experience is positive. Good people and none of the, this sucks, that sucks chatter. Consider the RP-servers, they're turning out nicely.
unsane, to be honest, the best way to roll in any MMO new or old is to find a guild before hand. It's not an optional choice much anymore as no MMO to date has put a system in for which you could hook up with your friends online through external systems like social networks in their games, so a guild is pretty much your only 'social' network in the game for which you can keep tabs on your friends and group together when possible. In essence, you have to carve out your own niche in the community and not depend on perfect strangers who may not have good manners, or good sense in general, to play with you. I know it's a harsh statement I'm laying out here, but it's the damn honest truth. It's not like how it was almost a decade before, there's too many folks thus the number of rude people rise as the total population of MMO players rise. It's just the way things are evolving. It's sad, really.

Havnt played retail mainly because of a imature community that I didnt want to be a part of was gonna give things a few month's and see how things are then.
AOC's chat channels where possibly the worst I have seen in any game not just content but layout as well.
In the game with supposedly the worst of the worst game community (aka WoW), I managed to meet some amazing people and make friends for life, even after stopping playing.
Too early to know how the AoC community will evolve. I'd give it past the initial month for the novelties to wear off.
Im still debating the game. I dont know. Im still hoping the community gets better and they add depth to the game.
I was hoping with a M rating we would have mostly adults playing but Im wrong with this. Ive hit server to server and they always talk about WoW or their boobs or their noobs. Hell, im willing to shell out some cash to find a server that is at least halfway decent in terms of maturity because right now Im pulling my hair out as Im having horrid Barrens Chat flashbacks.

I'm on Derketo, and a couple things have amazed me.
1) OOC chat has been more or less always helpful, and always friendly.
2) I have not seen anyone just running around with a topless female char showing her boobs off.
3) I have not seen any obvious cybering.
4) Not ONE WoW comment or Chuck Norris joke.
5) I've only been in one group (too bust getting 50 new chars through the starting areas to try them out), but so far everyone I've interacted with has been polite, friendly, and moderately intelligent. I've seen a few of the "wut? were r u?" type messages, but nothing irritating enough to rouse my ire.
I have to get to a major city and see if it holds up.
