I have been playing the game for 3 days and was very hesitant to try it only because of all the bad reviews I had been reading on this site in particular. Without naming exactly what everyone found bad about this game and going into it with an unbiased opinion I was amazed. My PC is by no means state of the art but I did custom build it I knew what i wanted. I experienced No load times over 10 seconds (OH NOES GAME BREAKING), I've yet to see the comparison to guildwars and other games that were released prior except for minor things. IMO you can take any new MMO and say they copied, imitated, improved mechanics from other games. The combat system is very abstract at first and I could see how some players were deterred in the beginning ( cause just like real life people don't like change ) but once you start to see the how fluid it really it can leave you in a state of awe.
I notice most of the complaints coming from people that aren't very familiar with computers. They buy the game and don't pay attention to the minimum specs because they don't even know what their computers specs are. You do not need a "monster" 3k dollar rig to run this game. Go price a duo core 2.66 cpu and an 8800gt, then get back to me.
Dont forget minimum 2gb ram. Preferably 4gb.
And given that you can now buy 2gb (2 x 1gb strips) from scan.co.uk in the UK for ONLY £28 theres no argument to get 4gb now.

Yup.
And if you're not sure you can build your own. If you can put a game cartridge into an NES, you can build a computer. hehe
Saying the graphics of a game don't matter and that the gameplay is the only real important part is like saying you only date somebody based on their personality and their looks don't matter.... It's nice, noble, and the "right" answer... until that broad with the perfect personality grabs her 7th piece of fried chicken from the plate resting on her belly and sends you (you think) a wink with her lazy eye. You then notice that her eye brow (singular) seems to have about as much hair as one of your dog's legs and you rush home to contemplate your life and the safety of your pets. I could have gone on but I'm really not that funny. Get the point though?

Despite only occasional lag and exceptable load times I find Age of Conan PLAYABLE BUT UNENJOYABLE when loaded on a computer meeting the "minimum system requirements". I disagree with the OP that "Even on Low settings the graphics are way better than most MMO (WOW for example). Assuming the OP means on a computer meeting AoC's "minimum system requirements" my experience is that the graphics in WoW and Lotro are far superior. I believe the programmers at WoW and Lotro have done a better job of optimizing the graphics for lower end machines. The graphics on AoC are inferior enough and unimmersive enough for me on a computer with the "minimum system requirements" that it's likely I'll shelve the game until I upgrade my computer.

Ok, I will counter your argument with this
So, you married the Supermodel of your dreams. Damn she is Pretty and stacked
..she is also the biggest BITCH you and your friends have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Sure, Shes fun to bed for the first week, perhaps two (shes on top of course..and enjoys scratching). But after 14 days of her constant complaints and her forbidding you to visit any of your friends ever again.
...you start to feel that graphics arnt everything
The graphics sometimes aren't the issue it's how the end user experiences it. A player could have a great video card that runs the game at 60 fps smoothly but if the monitor is low performing and it has dead pixels or ghosts then the user will be unsatisfied. This is more prevalent in action based games where it can be frustrating to play it with dated interface devices. Even the headset and soundcard can be a game breaking issue.
I was one of the players who would probably be playing the game right now if it wasn't for the system requirements. I have:
AMD 64 3700 Radeon X1950 2 Gigs of Ram Windows XP64
And I know I will have a hard time playing it. I actually pre-ordered the game and on the 20th of this month I transfered the pre-order to Starcraft 2. I still want to play AoC when I set up a new PC. Software requirements are one of the many realities of PC gaming, we have to deal with it.

I haven't played enough of the game to give a complete impression, but I am pretty disappointed in the performance. It's not the end of the world, but just for comparison my computer can run wow maxed and LOTRO (which is very impressive visually) at high settings. AOC is barely playable with the minimum settings. Maybe I'll be singing a different tune a couple of years down the road (if I'm still playing), but right now I really wish that this game had better performance on low settings for older pc's.
My PC uses an Athlon XP 3200+, 1.5 gigs of ram, and a radeon X1950 pro 512 meg GPU.

agreed.
I'm using a laptop. 2.4ghz 2gig ram 8400GS.
I'm running AoC on the lowest setting possible (except a couple from rendering distance settings).
Even on the lowest setting, the graphics are still beautiful.
