AoC MUST BE INSTANCED becouse it's limited by it's design. Making it a non-instanced game would render it unplayable.
So now we have come full circle. Back to my original post...MMO is not real, it never has existed as envisioned, not when you have 20 some odd servers spread out all over the place making it impossible for people to really hang out together as ONE SERVER ONE GAME

There's a lot of MMO that doesn't use instance... Ever heard of Lineage 2? The games been out for 4 years or so and it still has better graphics than 90% of the MMOs out there, yet it has 0 instancing what so ever. In fact, i been to many sieges that easily had up to 500+ players fighitng at one single castle.

its a cartoony game so they can get away with a lower graphics engine
also its Asian....and they are awsome at makeing 3d models...

Now you are saying this is more cartoonish than WoW?... I guess you can try to argue that its more asian art style, but the characters/weapons/armor sure has a lot more detail than most of the MMOs out there. Btw it uses the unreal2 engine.

Lineage 2 is also a great game (with the exception of massive grinding in higher levels).
I was there during the launch. Let me tell you that there were more people than foxes so gaining one level took hours. Are you sure you want to experience that? Because for me it was the second worst moment in the game (first being the insane grinding that needed on the first chapters, no idea how the game runs with today's chapters).
Classic EQ didn't have instances and each server held like 20k players comfortably. I hate instancing.
Of course EQ can hold a lot of players. The game is 10 years old and has REALLY low-end graphics. You can't expect new games with good graphics that use today's technology to run as easily as the lowest-end games. And even in EQ, did everyone forget what happened to your machine when you went into highly-populated areas? No one remembers the bazaar? Or the EC tunnels before then? Games, particularly those with real-time rendering, CAN'T handle massive amounts of polygons/textures that come with over-populated multiplayer numbers.

No wait, no need to answer, I allready know I'm talking to a complete idiot.
Case in point...Age of Conan Online. Look at all the instancing going on. Just like Guild Wars you got instances being shoved down your throat at every turn which takes away from the ONE WORLD ONE SERVER holy grail that was originally intended to begin with People, what happened? How did we come to this? You mean to tell me we STILL do not have the technology to get EVERYBODY on one server and one map? Of course we do not, can you imagine 15,000 people standing in front of one NPC asking for a quest??? So, to sum up...MMO is really a pipe dream. There never was a holy grail , never was the reality of everybody playing together on one server, ONE SERVER and EVERYONE there at SAME TIME No sorry, sadly it was all a pipe dream and we all are relegated to this....INSTANCING. MMO gaming is a joke and it always has been. I feel like I am a million miles away from the real game while i am leveling up in Tortage City, the noobie island. The immersion factor is NOT THERE. Where is everybody else? I would like to know people that are playing in the real game are near me somewhere. Where are they!!!!!!!!!!!!!??? To me this point is critical. Fun Com blew it with the newbie zone. My suggestion...STOP the game and reorganize the newbie zone so that it is on the same map as the real game, so we can run over and see high lvl players doing whatever. As it is now, there is no immersion into this supposedly huge game...only immersion i have received so far is being trapped inside a box
So go ahead and rationalize and tell me why everything is okay as it is, hehehe. Make excuses for Age of Conan..can't wait to read your replies Enjoy!
Aye instances is what we will get in the future if were just playing along as these AoC fanbois is doing. Make demands on the developers by not buying whatever crap they throw at us.
Guess you have to wait for the real game with everything your looking for arrives, Darkfall. One large gameworld where all can interact with each other as it should be.
I won't sacrifice a seamless world for better graphics. Instancing defeats the point of playing a MMOG.
Instancing only defeats the point of playing an MMO if your intention is competing for quests and enemies with thousands of other concurrent users. You can still play with your friends. There are still lots of people running around to play and group with. You can still join and play with guilds. And if you want a game that runs smoothly with thousands of players per server, has no queue (WoW), and was made within the last decade, good luck finding it.
Personally, I would rather play in a zone with tens of people I can group with than hundreds that just kill everything before I get the chance to even try.

Like i said in what u just quoted.... You could argue its asian artistic style, but you can't argue it can get away with a lower graphic engine... Like i said, it uses the unreal 2 engine, and a char in L2 has a lot more polygon counts than a character in WoW, which has like 10 in total... And every single person on the same server in L2 are put into one seamless word.. Any pvp in L2 can easily have up to 100+ people, and a lot more during sieges.
You all making excuses for the MMO failure to deliver...in fact it was NEVER delivered. So over time.... we have accepted things as they are and they BLOW, ....Massively Blow You all RATIONALIZING
Its obvious you haven't played this game, and I rather have kick ass graphics and zone once every 3 hours!
You came to this are just to flame a game you haven't even played.
The real question is this. How many people would have rathered played an AOC mmo in the same vain as SWG-pre cu, to how it is now. Everyone knows how SWG use to play out. Open world servers, very few instances, mix match skill system and even still when running settings on high, damn good graphics.
I will go back to my origional stance on AOC. FC took the wrong path with all the instancing and super duper high tech graphics. A FPS game can get away with it but an MMORPG can not at this time. todays systems are just not ready for that type of load.
Since everyone wants to compare WOW to every game on the market, i will say this. i played WOW for nearly 2 yrs. on and off and from day one never felt confined or alone. AOC doesn't give me and from what i have read, alot of people the same feeling.
Another big question for me is, why did FC make only one tutorial area, and why have it be form lvl 1-20. Do they really think that their game is so unque that everyone playing it is to stupid to not get the feel for it until lvl 20.
Since the game uses a lvl based class system and has so many other features that WOW has, they should have just made players start in their home area and do missions and grind up from there.
LIke i said, i played in CB, and the game is gorgeous. I ask though, at what price?

Wow, you think the instancing is the same as it is in Guild Wars? Well, apparently you haven't played the game at all, because it's not. SOME areas have multiple instances in order to reduce player crowding. They are dynamically generated as needed. So, if "Area 1" has a normal amount of players, there will only be ONE instance of it. But if it starts to get crowded, the server will create a second instance of that area to reduce the bottlenecking. Now, if your friend is in the first area and you want to go there, YOU CAN. And UNLIKE Guild Wars, the areas ARE NOT instanced to the single player or group. The world is still OPEN, and extra instances are created only when the zone population requires it. This method, if like any game, is like what's used in Tabula Rasa.
So, please either play the game, or learn what you're talking about before jumping to wild conclusions.
I won't sacrifice a seamless world for better graphics. Instancing defeats the point of playing a MMOG.

Ultima Online was such a game, and it was a blast. Thats what MMORPG should is all about. All together in same gameworld without restrictions. Darkfall (release 2008) is another one with a seamless world where all can interact together. 10000 players per server isnt that bad.
Age of Conan would have been alot better as a single player game with its demanding graphics and instances. Interaction is VERY poor in AoC.
You all making excuses for the MMO failure to deliver...in fact it was NEVER delivered. So over time.... we have accepted things as they are and they BLOW, ....Massively Blow You all RATIONALIZING

I'm not sure if you understand what instancing is. Zoning is not necessarily instancing. Classic EQ had zones, which are ok with me, cause everyone shares the same geographic space. Instancing copies the same geographic space several times so players don't play in the same world. Really lame.
If you just want to play with the same group of friends, you can do that in a multiplayer version of a single box game. I play MMOGs to see and meet everyone.

Why should we bother? Youve already made up your narrowminded view of the game. Im personally sick of all the whine and moan threads about the instancing/zoning. I wish the mods would start deleting them, and make a sticky thread for it.

I won't make excuses for AoC, that game just fails. But its not a pipe dream. The classic (and good) MMOs didn't have instancing. Ultima Online, EverQuest, Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot all had huge seamless worlds. Instancing is just a recent disease.

Instancing is a gamebreaker for loads of people. Many want a seamless world map where all can interact.
This is a forum where we can discuss positive and negative aspects of a game. If we dont allow people disapointed in for example instances write about it, then were even more accepting whatever crap the developers throw at us. They can get away with anything and people accept it cause there will be no other good choices to play. This thread is a very, very good one.
Thank god Darkfall releases 2008. A real MMORPG without instances.

You came to this are just to flame a game you haven't even played.
Darkfall Travelogues!
