No bank or tradepost, broken zone, bad account keys shipped, server reboots, and forums accounts broken. Not what I would call a smooth launch but still better than AO so they have learned something.
I'd say definately yes. I realize that people are having FPS problems and graphic card issues but not all and I'm confident they will get worked out shortly.
To give a brief example.
I have a fairly new rig but was not able to see spell particles and fire from torches and campfires among other things. My FPS was a "little" bit off but otherwise the game played very well.
Yesterday, I read on the, official forums about updating your Nvidia display driver and viola! I logged back into AOC and not only did I now see ALL effects, but my FPS went to 80-105 range at 1024x768 resolution. Nvidia 8800 gtx 768mb card.
So, my point is. In time, these graphic problems will be solved.
Other than that, the game is gorgeous, the combat extremely fun and engaging and the quests top notch. Very fun and I highly recommend it IF you have a decent rig.
This would be the second-smoothest launch of any MMO I've played -- the smoothest being LOTRO, and that launch would be extremely hard to beat.
I am one of those stuck without official forum access, and that hurts pretty badly. But in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather lack forum access and be able to play than vice versa.
With every new game launch thare tends to be bugs and problems you have to exspect that but i do belive that aoc could have fixed few of bug/problems before release.SO i would have to say its been rough launch but in time i belive the game shall get better.
Boy I wonder how many of the voters actually played the game. I think we got alot of haters just voting no cos of spite. The game is in a good state of cource patches can fix some bugs and balance but thats what mmo's are about polishing over time. Hope the haters do something more creative with their time.
Originally posted by solareus but then your lieing to everyone, smooth means smooths, not half way or Im ok with not having forum access, you have to be rigid and tell us what is happening, you dont have Forum access, that isn't to smooth to me ...
My vote was for "forum access", if that means anything to you.
Not having official forum access ranks fairly low on the list of things that could go wrong in a launch -- the most important information I'm getting are from guildmates and other AoC forums anyway. Is it annoying? Yeah, but it's not critical.
Forum access could be thought of as a part of the "technical" aspect of the servers that are the critical part of any game launch. But after going through the Anarchy Online launch, the Vanguard launch, and countless others... it's like the difference between stubbing your toe and shooting it totally off.

you dont have forum access , that is the truth. That is not smooth.
Then perhaps you should've elaborated a bit more, forum access has nothing to do with how smooth the game runs when you log in. Peripheral problems such as forum access are not in the same category imo. Putting 'smooth launch' and 'can't get forum access' as 2 separate options was a mistake. You can have a smooth running game but can't get forum access.
Enhanced for; Direct 10.... So how smooth could it be
Funcom said DX10 would be in at launch - they lied. The same goes for the other content that they said would be in at launch but really isn't. DX10 was the only part that they could not "hide" wasn't in. Siege battles and Spellweaving is not in. Last time I tested spellweaving there was no animation for it.
Then lets mention the lvl exploids and the item duping. Enough said. Actually it would have been better if the servers were not up at all than having such naive things happening.
In terms of beeing smooth ... 3 out of 10. Its about the same as the ppl that will actually play more than 1 month. My guess in 3 of every 10 will actually pay sub for this since so many things will be discovered in the next month.
Some are saying it can only get better... well ... it can get whole lotta worse when you consider that top 40 lvls have almost no tetsing at all.
All of those polls are basically NO to the main question, except for forum access one and obviously YES, may want to make a more simple Poll . (Yes)(No)and (I cant get forum access or good game support)
No such thing as luck, just believing in it is what makes it real to you and really...thats all you need.
So everyone has forum access ? Everyone is getting proper support ? I don't see to many haters posting at all, because WE ALL wanted to play this game for a long time...
When most of us are thinking "smooth", we're thinking in relative terms -- not "smooth" compared to perfect, but "smooth" compared to the norm. That's why many of us are satisfied despite the issues, because we're used to much worse. Our expectations are realistic, if only as a result of being disappointed for far too long.
For instance, support will always be a problem in the first few weeks of a game, when demand spikes dramatically. There's almost no way to properly prepare for that sort of thing. Those of us without forum access are suffering from that now. But I'm used to being totally unable to login during most of a game's first week.
I won't know about forum access until I input my key tonight, but from the EA, the game has run suprising well, especially on a PoS computer system that I have.

And this is why all the developers get away with releasing rubbish, if you accept substandard then that becomes the norm as we plainly see. It is up to us, the ones who actually pay to play these games to stand up and say ENOUGH, but that's my opinion

I used to think like that: accept nothing less than perfect. RISE UP AGAINST THE BEAST!! But perfect is impossible; this I've come to accept after so many years.
People don't accept rubbish (*coughvanguardcough*), but that's not the class I'd want to put AoC's launch into.
That is very much the issue, and a little over 50% think this launch went smooth ..
Are you scared about the partial-day results of a completely unscientific poll with a somewhat skewed set of options?
You know why forums have more complaints than praise on them? Because those who love the game are too busy playing to post. I'm at work, so I don't have that luxury. :P

A couple forums problems with access and a 'normal' number of tech bugs but so far so good, really impressed with the launch.

Nice job so far Funcom!
Smoothest MMO launch I have ever experienced... and I've been there for lots of them.
The vast majority of people having problems just have computers that can't hang... no problems with the game itself.

smooth as silk here, no problems at all...except the lack of sleep from playing constantly.

And yes, LOTRO had easily the smoothest launch.
Sorry but was just reading on back of my game box

So far it's been a really smooth launch. Far and beyond better than what the haters would want us to believe just a few weeks/days before launch.
