Ah I didn't know they weren't activating the keys. Interesting. In general, Nadia I'm with you. I cancelled my sub and I'll finish out my time. Not regrets over paying the money, just regrets that the game wasn't the 'great thing' I hoped it would be.
I think AOC is great, but it's not for everybody. It's definitely worth buying to just try it out. You should play past lvl 20 to get a good feel for it before you pass any judgments on it though.
Due to the relatively warm reception this game has received from this site's notoriously critical members I elected to purchase it. I'm happy to say that I haven't been lead astray. Time will tell if I decide to subscribe past the initial 30 days.
Basically, if you have the expendiable income go for it, we're not looking at another DnL or Vanguard here.
It is $40. If you can't afford to try a new game for a few dollars, then you shouldn't be playing with toys.

Gameplay over Graphics is the way to go, though Vanguard is running really nice and way more fun to play lately (you know umm I can explore without a loading screen every 5 mins). and its graphics are nice as well.
To make a long story short I wasted $40 bucks got two chars to Level 32 (I dont know how I did it dont ask it was not fun) and gave up, box is in the garbage pail. Sorry Funcom you struck out here, not a good game what so ever. Its empty bland weird psuedo Two worlds/Gothic 3 graphics mixed with massive instancing that makes you feel like you are playing a single player game. I would continue playing if and only if it was free to play.
Currently playing WOW (casually PVP here and there patiently awaiting WOTLK), GW (kicking butt in PVP), and Vanguard (actually enjoying seeing new sights you know oh and the amazingly detailed and huge dungeons that have no instancing or loading whatsoever).
The reason being, the genre started off with such a bang.
UO, Lineage, DAOC, AO, AC
I mean these games were absolutely amazing.
I believe they are just getting worse and worse.
AOC is the same old rehash of AO in a WOW like quest package with GW instancing to round it out.
There is nothing in this game that is genre shattering, and there is nothing that makes it stick out in the crowd.
It's decent, it has nice animations, but it is the same old stuff that is being shoveled out lately.
Granted this is coming from a guy who still plays UO (because it still is fun) and COH (because it was without doubt the most ground breaking MMO in a long while)
If you like WOW and GW's and wished that they were in a shiny new package with graphics that look more "real" than give this game a go.
That is so weird to me. I will spend more on my seafood dinner tomorrow than on a month of this game... but I would never demand to sample the stone crab first. I don't get this mentality of gamers. It is a few bucks. If you play it for a single evening and don't like it, it is still less than going out for dinner and a show.
I guess I am just living in a different world...

I think people write this game off to easy without giving it at least some credit. Granted the instancing is a pain for some people i actually prefer it i do wish the instances held a little bit more people however i find it kind of nice that if you run into a bunch of ***hats you can just change instance and continue on your way. Also, i think a lot of people make the zones sounds smaller then they are, to run across a zone takes well over 5 minutes so its not like your are zoning every 5 minutes and zoning really does not take that long. It really only takes me about 10 seconds to zone in if it takes you longer i suggest getting a bit better computer because this game is quite intensive.
I'm almost 100% positive that EQ2 used the same type of model. Of course, EQ2 (when I played) was so barren that you may only see 2 'instances' of that zone open at once.
So many people are quick to jump on the instanced idea, but the game couldn't handle it without it split into zones. There are still tons of players running around, were it all 1 big zone the lag and even just finishing quests would be a pain.

Anyone who can should try to find someone who plays and experience it themselves. Or get one of those buddy keys.
its worth buying - youll get your moneys worth for 30 days
but personally, I will not be subscribing

And for the love of god don't judge the game until past level 20. Tortage and the related quests are all one big huge newb area!
buddy keys will be activated on your account page once the first wave of paying customers has settled and we can let buddies come in.
First priority right now is a stable gaming service for paying customers.
Cheers,

Can you run AoC on med to high settings?
I can run AOC on high settings -- takes more than nice graphics to make me want to subscribe

Your loss
not at all
like I said -- the game is worth buying for the 30 days of play time, even if you do not subscribe

good advice
I'm a level 35 Demonologist for reference
if you hate Tortage (like I did) -- try to stick it out
the game *does* get better at 20+ in the open world

wait 3 to 6 months.

Buy.

Bye bye
I am not going to buy until I try.
I've been a huge MMO nut for too long now.

The game is well worth checking out.
Read very carefully...cause in order to play and use that 30 free days you have to use a timecard *60days prepaid or a CC to even register to play.
Don't know about the playcard but with a credit card you can cancel account at the end of the free 30 days.
Bought it today. Haven't got into the game unfortunately. spent an hour on the patch and I'm at 17.7/612 mb
Hopefully by next week I'll get to play it.
