So, it fixes itself real fast and it makes stupid companies look more silly when their sock puppet is found out.

Same thing can be said if any one posts the slightest thing negative about a game and that person is considered a troll.  You can't have it both ways.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I would love to know how exactly you think we should be able to do this?

I'm more or less with everyone else in this thread. It's a nice thought. We'd all like to get rid of that kind of viral maketing. It doesn't, in my opinion, do anyone any good (and we have rules against advertising for personal gain at MMORPG.com).

The problem is that it is downright impossible to tell and therefore useless, at  least to us.

In other words , its in the best interest of our paying advertisers  that we allow these "virtual marketers' and since we can pretend that we don't know who they are , any attempt on your part in opposing them will result in a full barrageof warnings and bans,   Am I on the right track here?

    No, I'm afraid not.

Do you honestly believe that we have some kind of list here that we're ignoring in order to help our paying advertisers? No such list friend. If I (or any other staffer here) were given proof that someone was a paid viral marketer, they would be immediately banned.

As I've explained in NUMEROUS threads before. It doesn't make any sense to do something like that. Members and readers will ALWAYS be more important than any given advertiser. Advertisers are replacable, the community is not. Once you've lost your community, your ad space isn't worth anything.

The only way you're going to get a warning / ban is if you break our RoC. Don't break our RoC and you'll be fine. Seriously, lose the tinfoil hat.

With all due respect to tinfoil hat fashion and the ROC.

It going to be a little tough to provide proof positive that these virtual marketers post among us but after just returning from a 120 day ban myself  and discussing the catalyst of this forced vacation with others who suffered a similar fate. We will try to assist you in your efforts in weeding out one of them.

So how much is MMORPG.com getting paid to fluff up Eve then?   That forum is the most strict in moderating anything negative and the reviews here are, well, let say, less than objective.  Compare that to say the WOW, where its pretty common place for the game to get trashed on a daily basis on every forum and the moderators hardly do a thing.  Of course no one is getting paid to lie here, but this the overly-positive slant when it comes to Eve, compared to everywhere else on the web is pretty obvious.

Why should anyone care what people say about WoW? They have 10 million subscribers.

They've sold 10 million boxes.   I stopped playing after about 3-4 months.  I am sure I am part of that 10 million number, but I haven't paid them a single dime in years.

With all due respect, I think the mods on this forum could use some of their tools to identify shills. I don't think they could get them all, but they might find some.

From a business perspective, by not policing this, you are allowing these companies to advertise freely on your site.   I am sure you'd like that revenue.

Surely there is more revenue to be made by these companies by trashing the new games rather than advertising their own. Once they themselves have already 'made it' to some degree at least. The easiest way in my eyes to maintain a high sub base would be to completely trash your competitors before they get a chance to compete on a level playing field, in both resources and product.

Sigh, you are wrong, they have 10.7 million active subscribers as the end of the 1st Quarter.  There are countless posts in these forums that document how Blizzard goes about reporting their subscribers (they don't even bother to mention how many "boxes" they've sold since the game came out)

I just don't see a big conspiracy that everyone is so worried about. Most of these games blow so bad they certainly don't need anyones help to trash them.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

It is funny how the SWG "vets" are always accusing SOE of this or that....either directly or indirectly.

If you happen to be pro-SOE that makes you a shill.

Well in the interest of clarification...I do not...nor have ever been asked...nor paid... to endorse SOE. Although with me being on disability, from 25 yrs of Crohns Disease, I suppose it would make me some side money.

Hey Smed...flip me a 5 spot and I will razz the Vets going on about Pre-CU...NM I will do it for free :P

Seriously...I started on EQ in Feb 01...and IMO it will always be the best MMO....PERIOD.

Just because SWG didnt hold up like EQ doesnt give you the right to accuse everyone that favors that company. So when I see folks trying to run off business from the company that holds my characters, of course I am going to respond.

That sure as heck doesnt make me a shill...or worse like I have been called  in the SWG vet forums. Which is even funnier cause I am a vet...just one that couldnt stand it during any phase I played.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
