Blizzard has announced that you can sign up to participate in the upcoming seven day stress test for "World of Warcraft"
In order to evaluate World of Warcraft's account-creation process and server performance under heavy loads, Blizzard will be conducting a seven-day stress test beta in the days ahead. This test will require over 100,000 players to download the World of Warcraft stress test beta client, create an account, and log on to play when the test goes live!
To make the client available for download to such a large audience, we have partnered with FilePlanet, GameSpy's Web-based file-delivery service. Click here to learn more about the World of Warcraft stress test beta and to sign up for a chance to participate in this special event.
For more information on "World of Warcraft" visit the official website.

Is it really worth Subscribing to Fileplanet for a 7-day stress test?
Oh my god, 100 000 players?!?! I am so signing up for the stress test!!!!!
......Oh wait, it's Fileplanet. Nevermind .
What's wrong with Fileplanet? I've been a subscriber there for a while, not a bad deal, and I get invites to a lot of betas.
I guess I just don't understand the hatred some have for it /shrug

I HATE Fileplanet. HATE.....HATE......HATE. By comparison, the Muslim and Jewish hardliners of the Middle East are merely disappointed in each other. I HATE fileplanet.
I've been quietly following the development of WoW for a year, and now that I get a chance to participate in the beta, I find that someone has seen fit to put DEFILEPlanet between me and my goal. As has been the case with every single FP experience since its inception, I got jacked around and redirected this way and that, until my temperature was boiling. Then, after finally getting a login, it tells me that the WoW stress test download is limited to full ($) subscribers only.
At the very least, Blizzard could have said so at the start, and I would have quietly left in favor of........Oh, I don't know.......jamming a screwdriver in my eye and swirling it around.
I have entirely too much history with FP's antics, and there is no way--in all the hells that exist in this universe or the next--that I will pay them another dime (yes, once upon a time I was stupid and paid them), and I have serious reservations about any company that would partner with them.
One thing is for certain, if FP has anything to do with the retail release of WoW, Blizzard won't be getting my business. That would be a truely sad day for me, but I have principles.
Pardon me while I go sanitize my keyboard and monitor.
Why pay for 7 days on a single server that's going to be the "stress test" server? If it's even up it will probably be unplayable due to lag.
And I'm sick of fileplanet too.
I would'nt mind so much, if They had told you right off the bat that if you dont give them money, you cant participate in the "free" beta test.
In fact, I find it insulting that after you click saying that you dont want to subscribe, the next page asks you again if you want to subscribe. Then, and only then, after you click "No", do they tell you that the beta is closed to non-paying members. I never expected FP to stoop that low to try to get people to subscribe to their site, but I guess some people will do anything for money...

8 dollars to just play WoW for 7 days?
I mean wtf?
thats like in comparison 32 dollars for the month.... its twice as much as ud pay to play WoW at release...
Beta Tested: Lineage 2, Ryzom, City of Heroes, RYL, EverQuest 2 World Of Warcraft European
Truly Loved: World of Warcraft
I have to agree with the outrage directed at this action. It's wrong of them to ask for help in testing their equipment then only giving the download access to an independent company that restricts access to that download on the basis of membership to their site. It translates to Blizzard saying we invite all FP members to help us with our test ... oh, and the rest of you too, I guess. It puts Blizzard in a very bad light, one that I don't believe has ever been associated with them.
I guess I will just wait for a month after retail release so I can read up on the reviews. If I can't catch a glimpse of the game prior to purchasing it, I'll wait. Last time I bought a game without thorough review I got stuck with that PoS Lineage II. I'm just glad I got beta2 for Wish to keep me busy ... when it finally gets here.
One word of advice for Blizzard, you might want to check someone's bank accounts to see if they got a nice kick back from FP for this mess. Sure seems like someone is getting paid.

Non subscribers can apply in a few days.
No one has given a valid reason so far for their hatred of fileplanet... I'm quite curious now

First of all...i def agree w/ all the neg replies to FP,i don't agree w/ Blizzard's partnership w/ them on this deal and find the lack of honesty at the beginning of all the information rather low and deceiptive and am rather dissappointed in Blizzard for being part of it.
Also..i won't pay for anything for any game...that gives me a week's access and then bumps me off ,this to me is only a low rate "tease" to lure the younger players into wanting it even more.
Another thing you should know as well is that FP has "well" over 100k in members(last time i knew they did)...and if they fill all 100k of slots with their priviledged subscription advantage...it could possibly not leave any slots open for the "average joe"..or even the people who signed up for FP that don't have the pay accounts.
It rather reminds me of just how greedy and disrespectful the Everquest world got when the Legends server was created(and the dawn of EQ2)...and from then on..only people on that server were gifted w/ decent customer support.(for a hefty increase in price in membership)
I'm starting to find that the DAoC staff is the best out there...their up front honest...listen to complaints and suggestions...and have even given players daily and weekly freebies....i find it rather funny how it was predicting as never going to survive...and yet their business and memberships have gone through the roof.More of the people creating these MMORPG Betas and games should use them as an example on how to treat customers and potential customers

Hey Vercenwhateverthekeckyournameis I got a great watch for you to buy! If you send me $8 dollars I might get around to mailing it to you one day. What don't you understand about peoples complaints??? I CANNOT BELIEVE FP HAS THE STRESS-TEST SIGNUP STRUCTURED LIKE THAT!!!
Why not state that the non-subcribers signup will open in a few days right off the bat!!! They sure the hell let you know more than one time on the web page that if you subscribe to their service you will get a key to play!!! No they have to beg and beg and beg some more to get your damn money. That is friggin' an outrage! It just so happens that I downloaded a file from FP earlier today before I saw this advertisement. You better believe that after this FP will never see light of day during my surf-time anymore!!! The word flabbergasted comes to mind but that is the only nice and legal BBS word I can think of describing the way they have that crap set up!!!
I used to just kind of dislike FP a little but now I have no words to descibe the INTENSE HATRED that FP has stirred because of this. I guess they did me a favor because now I know for certain I will never lay eyes on their site ever again!!!
BTW - I was very gonna get WoW but now you couldn't pay me to buy it and play it!!! Customer lost here!!!

Control is an illusion!
Relax you idiots. FP is a business just like any other.
I signed up and am installing it right now.
Sux for you guys i guess.
LOL He's calling us idiot the moron is paying to beta test a game that will evetually be released to the public, and his own server to download from man that is high class WoW.

You have to be kidding, you would actully let this one incident cause you to never buy this game all of a sudden. It's a stress test for one week. Other games have alot worse problem....if this causes you to leave, you were never a fan in the first place...no loss.
I don't like it either but you don't see me blasting the whole thing...big deal one week on servers that will most likely have problems. If people want to pay for beta so be it...but life is to short to lose your cool over this. To all of you who say you will never play now you might as well walk away from every game out there....it's a buissiness they will do stuff like this from time to time...deal with it or let it go...and welcome to the real world.
Harsh yes...but true...

I agree with the majority here. File Planet is the suck...
As far as paying to beta test a game, what a joke.
I can see that it is going to take a lot of bandwidth to let people download the client, but if they just make it publicly available, it would be mirrored all over the Net in minutes...
And, if Blizzard is going to be running an MMORPG, they should have a huge pipe already for the game. Just make the client available for download, let others mirror it all they want, and then when they want to go Live for the 7 day test, just make the file not available anymore so they get their bandwidth back for the test. By that time, there would be enough people hosting the file that Blizzard having the file on thier server would not matter anymore.
