As the topic title states, I want to know what people think of AOC. Not just any people though. People who actually LIKE World of Warcraft, and may still be playing it but are trying out a new game or whatever. Mainly I want to hear opinions of people like me, since I still like WoW but want other games to play.

Depends which aspects of WoW you like.
If your a hardcore raider .. forget it. AoC is not the game for you.
If your a quester ... then you'll love it .. theres a TON of quests.
If your into PvP .. My advice is wait and see. Seems off atm, as far as PvP goes. Combo's are damm hard to pull of against a target who's jumping around using the basic attack. Spells the same (if they bounce behind you) Seems theres some PvP issues to work through. If they can sort them out .. then try it.
Btw I mention spells b/c very very few are IC .. and those have long CDs. If you can bounce around a caster chances are slim they will land a spell on you Unless they can root and run away. (Roots are ground targeted AoE)
D~
AoC has like 10 endgame raid dungeons with tiered gear. Sounds like there's some raiding to be had.
Way more endgame dungeons then WoW had at launch.
Played WoW to 70 and raided 3/4 days a week for 2 or 3 months. Really enjoyed it but got quite frustrated by the fact it took massive chunks out of my life. Went away for 4 months and came back, without the time for PvE so played PvP, but got incredibly annoyed by class balance, and the fact that for the most part, gear > skill.
Playing Conan now (will cancel my WoW subscription tonight, its so easy to restart it barely matters) and since the EA. Level 29 Conqeuror, enjoying the way classes interact in a positive way, buffs make more difference and some even require certain actions from others. Talent trees (feats) are IMO similar, but better than WoWs. There as of yet doesn't seem to be certain cookie-cutter specs for different things. I love the sprint and stamina mechanic, haven't really run out of it in combat though, does it have limitations similar to mana? I hope so, hated manas un sustainability in WoW...

The problem with WoW expansions is that they effectively reset the game. That can have a positive effect with people starting alts and experiencing a different angle, or a negative when people find easier to leave than start over again.
Here is the new AoC trailer ....
http://video.nettavisen.no/spillmagasinet/video/10552
Ok, why are you posting the trailer? Trying to show me the graphical supremacy? Doesn't really matter if the gameplay isn't as good as WoW's. Also doesn't matter if my computer goes into a coughing fit due to pushy game developers and there insistance on upping system reqs long before the average person can afford a system that runs it.
Don't get me wrong I love good graphics and whatnot but I JUST had this pc built to run games like oblivion and EQ2 and Vanguard and now this game comes along that can very well make all those seem like ancient technology.
This is one of those reasons consoles do so well. All games for a system don't require you to upgrade the hardware every 3 months.
Now with that aside, I need people like the one above poster to comment on my original question. He at least mentioned what he liked in WoW etc.
I like WOW and I'm having a great time in AoC. I have no intentions of canceling my WOW sub (though I have cancelled my CoH/CoV sub and I played that game since launch). So far I like the following things in AoC:
- The questing and exploration. I like the quests I've been doing so far and having the option of doing "Normal" or "Epic" in those "mini-dungeons". I know some people hate them, but I actually like the voice overs in the quests and the options of saying different things to the quest giver.-
- I like the apprentice option (this is like "sidekicking" in CoH). Didn't know they implemented this, and I love it. Helps me play with friends that don't get to play as much as I do and not worry about the level differences so much.
- I personally really liked the day/night cycle option in Tortage. I could go off and solo when I felt like it and then go group when I felt like it (and friends were on). I know things change past 20, but for the newb area it was nice touch (at least to me).
I haven't gotten to the PvP bits yet. I will eventually. I tend to do PvE stuff first and then go into PvP later (I make multiple chars).

PAC-MAN WOW AoC
GET IT ?? I LIKED PAC-MAN .. I LIKED WOW
DO YOU STILL PLAY PAC-MAN AND ROLE PLAY A PILL EATING GHOST HUNTER??
couldn't manage to make yourself look stupider if you tried. Absolutely idiotic comment and in caps to put icing on the cake.
I played EQ and loved it, then WoW came and the main selling point for me to switch was that there were no more zones and loading times like in EQ, and now they want me to go back to a zone based game? Oh I think not mr bond, I'd rather play a game that doesn't use 10 year old technology and just put a new coat of paint on it.
dude, seriously just buy the game, you get a free month, if you dont like it you can try and sell it on ebay or somewhere else.
Thanks for the link, that's a sweet video
Buy the game .. you know you want to.

I was trying to dumb it down for someone who plays WOW ... I guess it came across as intended.
I quit EQ2 as well, I didnt quit EQ2 because of the loading zones which was annoying.
The reason I quit EQ2 was because it was so slow on my PC , you couldnt solo , exp loss when your group wiped and you died ( punished for tards getting you killed )
WOW was just more polished and fun ...
Just like WAR will be more polished and fun than AoC is. I wouldnt quit a game just because it has loading lol thats almost stupid.
WoW blew it with their expansions (EDIT: IMO)
Though I will say that I am having as much fun in AoC as during WoW's first months (the most fun I had in a game ever).
10+ million agrees..../sarcasm.
Anyway just buy AoC, i'm sure you'll love it, even though the zoning can/will be a turn-off, like when the commercials jump in just when it's getting exciting.
But that's the only bad thing really, if you love the conan lore, you'll LOOOVE this game.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Liked WoW for what it was, been in since beta, levelled 3 toons to 70, raided extensively, in truth we started playing WoW out of boredom, when EQ2 failed us we thought we'd give WOW a shot since we had nothing to lose.
We enjoyed WoW, just the lack of content updates was a joke for a game grossing as much as WoW. It takes them 1-2 years per expansion, quite pathetic really.
Anyway, I digress.
AoC has innovative combat, beatuful graphics, incredible sound and the most impressive and immersive enviroments available in an MMO today.
Think that sums it up for now.
I like both games and will play both games. ^_^
thanks all for the replies, the non insulting ones at least. I also have the same beef with Blizzard and their horrible expansion pack track record.
For those who call WoW dumbed down, go away, please. I've played just about every mmo out there and the so called complex mmo's are usually the worst....so far. That's an opinion by the way, I do crave some complexity but not enough to make my head hurt(i.e. vanguard, eve).
Again it all comes down to FUN. Is AoC fun after you get past the initial newness? Of course this question probably can't be answered just yet since it is still new and noone is leveling a second toon and going through the game again.
Also, while tempting as it is to just buy the game. Number one I don't use ebay so I wouldn't sell it if I wasn't happy with it. I'd be out 50 bucks which could be spent on a better game when it comes out. Either I will bite the bullet and get it, like I did LOTRO and Vanguard, which sit on my shelf collecting dust, or I wait for true upper level gameplay vids and a free trial. But that's why I'm here right now asking you fine folk what you think of it if you have similiar tastes as myself.
Played WoW for years and had a blast. The time between content updates killed it for me. I'm a somewhat casual player and did some raids and had fun. I also did some battlegrounds, which weren't a lot of fun for me, it was just...bland and never got me excited. I got into arena a little bit, but later in the game when I was way outgeared. At this point I didn't want to keep running the same instances to get good enough gear to do arena and I didn't want to grind BGs to get the old arena gear to do arenas, and with WoTLK to be released "when it's ready", I cancelled my account. I may go check out the X-pac once it comes out, but only if Conan isn't keeping me happy.
As it stands for AoC, I am having a lot of fun. The UI is a little different than what I am used to, but I am getting the hang of it fairly quickly. I am slightly irked by some of it, but that's the same with pretty much every MMO I've played (almost all of the major releases).
If you liked WoW, you'll probably enjoy AoC. The quests are abundant and most are quick and easy. The instancing everyone complains about lessens greatly once you leave Tortage at 20 and most of the "instances" are open, we're not talking Guild Wars instances. If you're seperated from your friends, you can still join them in whichever instance of the zone they are in. I feel that this is actually neccessary in a lot places in this game as there is full character collision. What this means is that if too many people are at whatever NPC, you cannot talk to him until they move. With the split it gets rid of this as well as gives people less waiting for spawns. Some people will never accept it, which is their right, but I see it as a perfectly acceptable option. I think partly due to coming up on EQ.
The combat system is only slightly more complicated/in depth than most MMOs, but it makes me feel like I'm actually doing something as opposed to spamming one skill over and over.
I'd say it's definantly worth a shot, if you don't like it, hopefully WAR will satisfy you.
Ok, I bought it. And i'm frigging loving it! I sat in battleground earlier today in WoW bored outta my mind and just decided to go grab AOC and boy am I glad I did. The sound and music are incredible, the gameplay is quickly becoming fun, and I really can't wait to get past the first 20 levels and into the wide open world.
I have been playing WoW sense 2005 and still love playing. I guess mainly I didn't do like a majority of players did and try and max out a toon as fast as possible and waste away my free time try to get all the epics I could.
I haven gradualy leveled up nine total characters and still working on them. I tend to try and play the game and enjoy it - help others as well so that I don't get burned out/bored.
As for AoC; I seemed like an awsome game - and for the most part it is. But, nothing really new to me. Losts of button pushing and actualy runs worse for me after open beta ended.
I'm gonna keep the game for a month or so to try it out - cause, I do want to have another game to play from time to time. But, I don't see AoC being that game like I thought it would.

I havent played AoC much yet. but as far as I can tell its pretty nice. it only just came out too. so, will be nice to see what its like after some patches....
only problem i can tell so far is the graphic intensity it requires over WoW that i think sucks. but graphics are cool too
I'm starting to dislike AoC, all the little things are adding up. I dislike the chat windows, needs more depth.
Grouping with RL friends is not very beneficial early on, and hard to do with how the 1-20 game is structured.
Combat gets very very old after 30+ levels pushing 1,2,3 over and over ever 1.2 seconds in combat reminds me of diablo mouse clicking.
I get a very detached feeling from the game, hard to describe, just not "feeling" it though.
Can't bind mouse buttons
Feels like a mix between eq2/guild wars/elder scrolls oblivion.
Ah well, going to keep at it til the month is up atleast.. see how it goes.
As far as WoW, I have been pretty burned out on WoW for about 5-6 months, been playing since beta and have 8, 70's with mostly full arena/pvp gear.
If you loved WoW, and don't like more RPG type mmo's.. this game is probably not for you.
congrats! wise choice!
Combat gets old from pushing 123??? LOL! At least you don't press ONE button and watch a toon do the same animation over and over again.
If AoC's combat is boring then EVERY MMO out there has even MORE boring combat!! AoC combat is superior to every MMORPG. Period. It's the first time I actually feel like a bad-ass without having epic gear on or level 70.. LOL
