I'm not defending FC, but remember that they never showed a siege with actual players.  Every video they showed was just a bunch of NPCs and it never looked all that massive or epic TBH.  FC has been talking from the begining and showing very little.  Its the reason I never believed a single thing they've said because they never backed up anything.

"Siege warfare was brought into Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures because Funcom as developers wanted to give players that epic feeling of being part of a large-scale battle. We have all watched movies like Braveheart, 300, Kingdom of Heaven – all these epic battle movies – and we realized how amazing it would be to bring that into a massive online game. So we did, naturally."

"Head out to the Border Kingdom with your guild, or hire yourself out for pay, and wage epic battles for control of player-owned battlekeeps."

..."so Funcom knew that we had to give even the lone wolves of Hyboria the opportunity to satisfy their thirst for large-scale, epic battles."

Some quotes I compiled on the site of Age of Conan about PvP.  I may be stupid, but I don't recall having seen an epic battle with 48vs48 before.  If you have please tell me.

considering the combat system and that pvp siege is basically just a castle siege, 48vs48 doesnt sound so bad. and least it isnt mindless lotro crap or wow bg bs.

if FC has designed the system correctly (eg. nice benefits for capturing halls, etc) then it could actually end up being more decent than most of the crap that is out atm.

Doesn t happen because it isn t epic. It s sad and the only feature i cared about is now just a limited BG. I know you ll hear oh but with the graphics so high it would suck if there were more. I can t believe anyone would accept this as good.

Good luck trying to get more than 96 people in a single battle area working at at the same time.

In EVE, it's a complete slideshow.

Incidentally, please post some proof that Funcom ever said anyting other than 48x48.

limited mentality. BGs have a specific design and purpose. designed in a different manner an instance, even when it is limited to 48vs48 for the time being, is no longer a BG.

it seems more like a castlesiege ala Total War than AV for example

You have got to be kidding me right? 96 people total is so far from epic it s not even funny. I ve said it before i ve been in battles in DAOC wellpassed 300 people and very little lag. All these people that think 96 people in siege battles are epic actually blow my mind.

How is this limited mentality? It is a total of 96 people period. In your words BG s have a specific design and purpose, well limiting it to 48 vs 48 is their design and purpose to make it playable. I could care less what crap they come up with that it s the graphics etc. It has to be the most static system i ve seen. Let me guess if they said no it s not 96 it s capped at 300 all of a sudden everyone that said no it s good to cap it at 48 vs 48 for performance reasons would change your tune. I mean come on, i m in a siege defending and i know exactly 48 are attacking. Why, where is any sense of surprise is there? If you have to have a pre determined time to attack set in place, ugh , then at least have some sense of suprise in there. Anyways i have every reason to say what i m saying. When the game was announced and i first heard of the BK s i was excited. When i learned of this cap and attack time i almost puked at the thought. For each their own but that is how i feel on this.
