yeah, actually, i think the combat in this is harder than any other mmo, since I have to actually see which side of the enemy is open, then choose the right combo move that will get me the best result. I had a very hard time tackling 4 mobs at once, since I'm a low level caster but I was able to take 2 down at a time before they killed me with some fancy combo clicking. I'm enjoying it.

granted, there are a few bugs yet for them to fix, namely my one buff icon had disappeared for awhile but finally came back.

chat window could be improved vastly, but guess what, WoW just improved theres with the last big patch and that's 3 years after its launch.

the sound really has me though, i feel like i'm really there running through that forest at night and the wind blowing around and the awesome mucis building atmosphere. Havent had this much atmosphere since FFXI.

Yeah I am lvl 19 nearly 20 finished noob island quests but wanted to get to 20 before I continuie. Anyways if you like the atmosphere you im sure you will love it. I tried wow and I am sure it has some great gameplay and great fun but for me I need to get immersed to get into it and have fun. Wows outdated graphics and sound didnt work out for me. Im used to zoneing from GW but i would take superior environment with zones over an open world that looks like it belongs on a Win 95 machine anyday.

I just hope AoCs endgame stuff is as cool/fun as they have made it look.

Grouping with RL friends is not very beneficial early on, and hard to do with how the 1-20 game is structured.
Combat gets very very old after 30+ levels pushing 1,2,3 over and over ever 1.2 seconds in combat reminds me of diablo mouse clicking.
I get a very detached feeling from the game, hard to describe, just not "feeling" it though.
    Can't bind mouse buttons :(
Feels like a mix between eq2/guild wars/elder scrolls oblivion.
Ah well, going to keep at it til the month is up atleast.. see how it goes.
As far as WoW, I have been pretty burned out on WoW for about 5-6 months, been playing since beta and have 8, 70's with mostly full arena/pvp gear.
If you loved WoW, and don't like more RPG type mmo's.. this game is probably not for you.

Combat gets old from pushing 123???  LOL!  At least you don't press ONE button and watch a toon do the same animation over and over again.

If AoC's combat is boring then EVERY MMO out there has even MORE boring combat!!  AoC combat is superior to every MMORPG.  Period.  It's the first time I actually feel like a bad-ass without having epic gear on or level 70.. LOL

    -M

TBH... WoW combat is maybe a bit dull.. but still I had a lot of fun figthing with my rogue, warrior or shaman even in PvE.. I was forced sometimes use at least 6+ skills ..in AoC.. 1 - 2 - 3 is really enough..at least up to level 30. We will see how it will look later.

1 2 3 works fine if you are straight melee. try playing a Herald of Xotli, its a bit more difficult.

In WoW, i had a shot rotation, spell rotation, skill rotation for every class to maximize damage output. Not much change there. This game on the other hand so far, has shown me I have to think on the fly depending on who is fighting me, how many, how tough they are, etc.

Also, the instancing everyone is talking about isn't that bad. It reminds me massively of EQ2 and how it does it's instances.

I just left Tortage City and it suddenly got big, complex and almost intimidating, so I decided to take a break and come here to post a bit.

AoC doesn't stack up to WoW at all.  I'm sorry, but this B.S. about the graphics being all that are bogus.  Open your bag and look at your inventory.  What the hell is that - a pebble?  Nope, it's a pair of shoes!  NICE GRAPHICS!

While I'm sick of WoW and haven't played in over 6 months due to boredom, I was hoping this game would be one I could get into and start something new.  Sadly, this game isn't that great for many reasons.  I'll be waiting for WAR or Stargate Worlds instead.  I'll play out my month free membership and see if there is some way in hell it will redeem itself, but I don't see it happening.  I'd be willing to bet that this game only gets a moderate fanbase once it's settled in.

The thing that AoC seperates itself from the competition most is with graphics. And the problem there is limits your playerbase to people who already have a machine that can handle it. If your pc can't play it well, then the game has to impress you enough to want to spend a lot of money getting a new computer.

AoC isn't good enough to convince most people to buy a new computer to play it, maybe not enough to buy an expensive video card.

AoC, I really like the graphics, I like the architecture and design of the world. but it runs at 10 fps on average (has gone down since early access, and I expect to get even worse until a patch hits to improve things).

It's not a bad game, but it is a lot like WoW. And the pvp is where AoC is trying to stand apart from it. But if you run at 10-15 fps in old tarantia, how will you ever be able to do the 48v48 sieges? The minigames are on par, or worse than BG's than in WoW. Lastly there's raids, and I can do that in WoW already.

So I'm supposed to like AoC better than WoW because it's more mature and has uber graphics, but the gameplay is similar. I will admit the combos make fighting more complex and dynamic, but it's not revolutionary. I prefer casters anyway, and they play very similar to all other mmo's. AoC runs at 10 FPS with the lowest settings, WoW I can have at full graphics and get smoothe gamplay. WoW's art direction is just as valid as AoC's, it's just less realistic.

Most immersive damned game ive ever played in my life, and fun, i even forgive it for always freezings and exiting out due to "Running out of memory" I dont care if people dont like it, they can go play runescape for all i care, this is good stuff, and people are entitled to there opinions, whether there opinion suck or not. But as long as i can enjoy AOC that is fine, ive played plenty of WoW, PrecuSWG,EQ< all that stuff, AOC rocks.

What destroyed WoW for me was the community but the game itself is solid.  There are good people there though.

Pre-BC I was the first assist tank to the main guild tank and helprd our guild to raiding status but quickly left thereafter due to guild politics and factors outside games.  Trying to sneak in DKP with an alternative system still rings of DKP to me.  That and the guild leader writing a rude post on the guild boards about being fed up with helping people and them not thanking him.

The last PUG I was in post-BC had the person telling me, "What is wrong with you?".  Even though we accomplished what we set out to do.  That told me it was time to move on.

On AoC I can't really give a full opinion as I've just joined a few days ago with having played a hint of EA on my family member's account.  From the 10 or 11 levels I played so far I like the twitch combat and the shields depicting what side is open/shielded from attack.  The cut scenes remind me of the Bioware games I am so fond of.  Was hard to find that family member when we went to trade though.

On the technical side I have a X2 4200+ 3 GB RAM 320 GB 7200rpm Hard Drive X1900GT 256Mb X-Fi Extreme Gamer XP Media Center SP 3 and I run on low with 3.0 shaders and a 1440 * 900 rez.  The lowest I dip down to on the disc client is 18 fps and the highest I go is 35 fps with an average fps in the mid to upper 20's.  That's playable for me.

With the EA client I dipped down to 5fps and went to high 20's on the same computer.  I only experience an error message on the desktop after exiting if I used the options in game.  Otherwise the game looks great even on my settings.

Overall - as I stated before - the game has great graphics. And to me; for it's style; WoW has great graphics as well. [seeing as they have totally different art directions to them.]

Also, like I stated, AoC is a good game for what little I played. But, nothing really that amazing.

One thing that has turned me off from the game sense launch was the fact that during the open beta I could run medium settings with no problem; especialy after the that last major patch that went out before open beta ended. But, now that the game is out; I have to run on low settings.

I'm gonna cancle my subscription aft the first month or may let it go two. It has nothing to do really with the lag problem - it's just not that interesting to me.

I'm a fan of WoW, but I've just played that game too much and it's old and stale now.  WoW really doesn't have an endgame unless playing AV a 1k times can be considered one.

For an MMO as big as AoC, I've found it to be a smooth launch.  Had a problem with patching, but so far so good.

    Graphics 10/10 - laughs at WoW's cartoonworld.

Roleplaying 10/10 - much better then WoW

Gameplay 9/10 - instancing takes a bit out of this game, but that doesn't take away from it that bad.  I'd rather play in a smooth game with 60 people then lag to crap with 80.

The gameplay style in AoC has been a breath of fresh air.  It's innovative and kind of like a console game.   I'm concerned about how it's going to hold up later on with pvp and such, but my pve experience has been entertaining.

The gameplay in WoW of course was legendary and always fun.  This is where AoC is going to have competition.

PvP - Haven't got to experience much yet.  Looking forward to it.  WoW = 4 battleground and arenas.  World pvp is dead.

So far this game is epic and it just launched.

Disagree with people saying this doesn't stand up to WoW's gameplay.  Warlock = 123 dead.  hunter = autoshot Please...

I'm playing AoC and i'm loving it!!

the 1, 2, 3 comment, is like just auto attacking in WoW.... you are making it boring for yourself purposely!! I'm playing a HoX, a class i would say is a "make or break" with your combos, if you fail a combo and just got 1, 2, 3 attacks left, then you're dead, later on, when dealing with many foes, if you do them all right, you'll end up having killed a BUNCH, with yourself at a very decent hp level.

My HoX is only lvl 28 but it's really a fun game, the combat system is nice, the game atmosphere is just like Howard probably would have wanted it, because it feels like you're in one of the Conan movies yourself.

The chat windows are indeed in great need of work, also some keybinding to certain mouse who have thumb buttons ect. should be accessible, just like you could with WoW, a little used to have my important abilities on the thumb and middle scroll buttons on my mouse.

Overall, this game is nice, got some few bad things but it's just small things so far.  Also i'm amazed to not see any naked idiots running around all over the place, a really good surprise, hehe.
