I can't figure out why WoW would launch beta stress test and not allow those beta applicants get his beta key first.

RE: File Planet & Blizzard partnership
Obviously some angry members here are just trying to get stuffs as cheap as they possibly could!
Fileplanet doesn't just offer WoW beta, i've been member for many months and FP offered many other betas and very very fast servers. Blizzard look Fileplanet as opportunity to use their servers to distribute and acquire testers without bogging down their server severely. it's a win win situation, eventhough argumentative who benefits more in this case.
For perks on signing up with FP, they offer computer games magazine/s. it's not best, but i don't mind getting them for free.
why i signed up? i tried to get files for counter strike back then and other beta games such as lineage2 and asheron calls 2 from their official site and it was bogged down.
i had to wait long time and decide that FP is better choice for me. i used up all my bandwitdh (up to 2.8mbps) and get to enjoy the game faster.
so does subscribing to FP worthed? it depends on your needs. if you just need WoW, it's not worth it. if you benefits other files that FP offered, i think you owe it to yourself to enjoy the speed of FP.
As a free, ad-driven service I have no complaints against Fileplanet. I simply don't see the economic sense in paying for beta tests or demos. Nor do I yet see the sense in paying extra to download a full game when I can get the CD media just as easily.
On Blizzard's site there is an FAQ that limits the stress test to Fileplanet subscribers for the time being, so while I am not the biggest fan of their choice for distribution, I cannot say they are being dishonest.

Why not state that the non-subcribers signup will open in a few days right off the bat!!! They sure the hell let you know more than one time on the web page that if you subscribe to their service you will get a key to play!!! No they have to beg and beg and beg some more to get your damn money. That is friggin' an outrage! It just so happens that I downloaded a file from FP earlier today before I saw this advertisement. You better believe that after this FP will never see light of day during my surf-time anymore!!! The word flabbergasted comes to mind but that is the only nice and legal BBS word I can think of describing the way they have that crap set up!!!
I used to just kind of dislike FP a little but now I have no words to descibe the INTENSE HATRED that FP has stirred because of this. I guess they did me a favor because now I know for certain I will never lay eyes on their site ever again!!!
BTW - I was very gonna get WoW but now you couldn't pay me to buy it and play it!!! Customer lost here!!!
This has to be the most inane argument I've seen in a while. It's completely devoid of anything even remotely resembling thought. As far as I can tell those that dislike fileplanet do so because they have to wait in line to use up their bandwidth for free...
At least I now know that there is no real reason not to subscribe to fileplanet.
Oh and they lost you as a customer? I can already see the future servers improving and Blizzards stock rising.

To both Ver(shorten that username lol) and drevil. NOT once in my post did I complain about COST! My disgust has nothing to do with cost. So be it if they wanna get suckers to pay for a beta. Hell we all pay for half finished games on the shelf anyways. Why not a beta. Ver again you still did not read my post correctly and neither did your friend drevil. I am not looking for anything free. You show me where I mentioned that I complained that I would have to pay for beta!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now if both you could actually read and by some chance comprehend my post and then tell me I am wrong fine. That would mean you can still learn with A.D.S. I have been playing games for almost 30 years and on the internet for about 13 years before it was even the internet. If you two misunderstood my complaint then that is your loss and FP 's gain because you are the type they prey on. Blizzard got a kickback from FP so FP could try and expand their subscription base END OF STORY!!! Conglomerates (look that word up if you guys need to) collide. Greed is the explanation which is not a bad thing if you know how to do it correctly. But in this case it was just to obvious and intrusive.
I never once have waited to get a file from FP because I disagree with that type of distribution model. I used to go there (emphasizing used to) to get a file if there was no waiting. No different then any other site I download from. But the cheesy setup FP had for this just stunk.
I wonder if Blizzard knew that this download and signup structure was gonna be this way???

Well I am not the only one upset with how the signup was structured. If you cannot see that I cannot explain to you. I was just trying to state that I agreed with other people who were going to sign up only to find out it was mainly for subscribers and wanna be subscribers to FP. And after going through the entire process to find out that if you did not subscribe you were not able to sign up for the stress test for who knows how many days. The promo for sign up said nothing to the fact that you had to be or had to sign up for FP to join the test. It is all a ploy to get your money. Now this is all good and part of business but the way it was done was classless. It was setup very poorly and in a way that makes people unhappy. This cannot be false because look at where this thread has gone. I am not trying to pick on anyone for liking or signing up for FP at all. But for those who are subscribers and ones that wanna pay to beta test this for 7 days without letting non-subscribers know they could not signup is wrong. Almost false advertising if you ask me. I'll say this, I think nothing of going out and blowing 15 bucks on a few cocktails that might provide me with a few hours worth of refreshment, so why wouldn't I pay 15 bucks to get unrestricted access to the one of the largest file distribution centers? The current generation of 20 somethings have had the unique experience of growing up during the development of an industry that is just now figuring out how to earn a living off of bandwidth.
The end result being that they have become jaded, and suffer from delusions of entitlement. It's anyones fault and it's a character flaw on the part of the download generation, it simply means that people are gonna have to listen to people gripe for the next few years because they now have to actually pay for services rendered or wait in line.
In my book a sucker is someone so jaded that they let a little thing like a 15 dollar fee actually frustrate them enough to the point of complaining about it on a public forum.
I fully understand now why you don't like the service and that's fine, but to go ahead and condemn a game that's not even published yet because of a 7 day test catered to fileplanet subscribers is just a little silly.

it is apparent that you know little about it. a week of WoW should be sufficient enough to get to more than lv 10.
WoW quests reward are very well designed that you don't have to grind your way through levels.
moreover, your are missing basic idea of STRESS TEST. Blizzard make STRESS TEST to test the stability of their servers, which is very important in every MMOG's process. if you feel that it's not worth spending the FP subscription to try the STRESS TEST, then don't. there are other people who are willing.
it's pretty obvious that i prefer to play with players who are willing to do the stress test than players who are sulking about the stress test limitation & FP-Blizzard mumbo jumbo.
You do know that anyone in North America can now download the stress test free right? I'm downloading it right now. And to all you suckers that actually paid money for some 7 day crap, i say haha to you.
"The current generation of 20 somethings have had the unique experience of growing up during the development of an industry that is just now figuring out how to earn a living off of bandwidth."
As a person with a great deal of work experience in the IT field, I can tell you there is no living to be made from bandwidth. Mere access is rapidly becoming a commodity, with DSL and 3MB/s + speeds becoming the norm on the client end. Money is made in service, in adding value.
Merely removing advertsiement isn't an added value; being moved to the "head of the line" on a download server might be nifty once or twice, but not really worth the cash; especially for betas and demos (often available on other sites without the wait). Nor is it worth my time or money to download a full game when so many stores carry the CD's. What other service does a paying subscription to Fileplanet add?
I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Blizzard gained some monetary reward for allowing Fileplanet to restrict the inital offering to subscribers only; in fact I'd be surprised if they didn't. If Fileplanet is profiting from the appeal of WoW, then of course Blizzard's going to capitalize on that. I'm certainly not upset with them for the practice.

LOL.....we are not that different after all! Just replying to explain why some were upset at the way this was done that is all. I bet you get great download service from FP. Their download manager is second to none in my opinion. But unfortunately they have done stuff like this in the past (just not as blatant and obvious) which is why I kind of shrug their web site to begin with. I wish I could remember specific instances but senility is a gift and a right of passage...lol Unfortunately FP and the game that chose this measly 7-day stress test signup structure will get the short end of the stick. At least from my hard earned money anyways.

I'm sure Fileplanet made some profit off of giving out the Stress Test Beta to only members at first. Either way it doesn't effect me, since I was able to get in the Stress Test for free.
