Recently, I've been longing for the good old days of SWG. Not that the Pre-cu incarnation was perfect. Far from it truth be told. However it was its (SWG) community in-game, not necessarily on the forums, that was such a huge driving force for the appeal to the game. After several years of jumping from one amusement park MMO to another I'm getting awfully bored with the status quo that is dominating the industry. And while there are a lot of decent MMO's out there, most of them don't capture the feeling or live up to the potential of persistent online virtual world.
So out of boredom, I came up with the idea to try and organize a Vets of SWG Dance Party. A reunion if you will. I’m still trying to work out the details but a few ideas are as follows:
*Get as many vets as possible to DL the NGE free trial or make a free trial account as described in the guide section of the SWG forums.
*Set a date for event and pick one server to meet on.
*Choose character name as follows, First name: IAM<insert old mains name>. Second name: <the server you played on previously.>
*Everyone make a Jedi character. You know you don’t (didn’t) want to play a moisture farmer!
*Meet in Mos Eisley for contests, socializing, and role-playing. Mayhem and mischief left to the individual’s discretion.
*Drive the selected server’s population threw the roof thereby giving the NGE fanboi’s hope!
*Then leave again! :P
Anyway just a thought I’d throw out there to see if any to the Vets , who might be waiting on the next SW MMO, would interested in a SWG Reunion on SOE’s dime.
Comments
But I was a moisture farmer. It was the way I played and enjoyed the game. I may not be invited to this event as a true vet. But I never intended to have a Jedi first off. And don't ever plan to untill I exhaust certain other professions first.
I think your intentions are good but I for one don't want to play or meet on SOE servers ( even for free). There are other servers to meet friends of the past and new friends of the future. Especially when the SOE servers offer despair for the people that care. And would only serve to bolster false sub numbers for the SOE numbers.
Again I like your intentions, just explore another place to hold it. A non SOE server. And I'll be there to meet new friends.

..boost numbers for SWG ? never !!!!!
Maybe if combined with mass protest to give us classic server in game and on the o-boards.
On the second if the OP is serious, I think a mass protest would be counter productive to the intent of SWG vets meeting and enjoying the community. Every bit as much as hosting a vet community meeting on a NGE server would do. That is why I suggest elsewhere wink, nod, wink.
However if there are vets that want to organise an NGE in game protest I would understand that. But that isn't what the OP was asking for.

I like the idea but I say wait until November 15th.
It may actually get SoE's attention.
No, Thank you. NEVER.
Let SOE licks his wounds alone, especially now with the bleeding of fanbois leaving to other MMOG.
and let SWG R.I.P.

I smell vitual marketer here , my fellow vets . Its stinks of the slime of SOE.

I kinda proposed the same idea last year, but I can promise you I'm no virtual marketter : )
My feeling was that it may get someone's attention if we can suddenly change a very light server to one of the most populated (if not THE most populated) for an evening.
I think that would make a helluva statement, and perhaps have someone over there at SoE question why that happened.

Suvroc,You hit the nail on the head as that was my intent to drive the numbers through the roof for one evening and catch SOE's attention. (If thats possible.) I first started playing SWG back in 08 of 2003 and while SWG had a lot of problems I still miss it to this day. I played a human CH with a little bit of Commando named Neth Cykred on the Tempest server. It was just an idea to throw them off guard for a night since you know they'll keep the game on life support with their station pass for a long as they can get by with it.
Jester,
I can assure you only with my words that I am NOT affiliated with the cess pool of ignorance that is SOE. I just figured this might be good for some laughs for an evening. Not that driving one of their server's numbers to the max would actually do much since we've seen how competent they are at interpeting market data in the past.

GrandAmYes and no as far as an organized protest. I think that just by getting as many "Vets" to gather at one time on one of their servers would help to show them what they lost. I could be totally wrong, and having dealt with SOE in the past, its more than likely they won't "get" it. Anyway its just idea.

That's JestOr to you,
I for one have enough laughs here without giving the appearence that SWG -NGE is doing well even for one evening, SOE has already interrupted my business with them -5 years of faithful sub paying then BAM!
then 22 months later only to be allow to play the NGE - Do you know what that is like? I once drew the analogy that it was like coming home after being overseas for almost 2 years and finding that your house has burn down and all of your friends have moved away. So(e) excuse me for not wanting jump on the party band wagon.

Yep I know what its like as I was around during the early days and got to live through all their ignorant ideas as well. And I agree SOE/SWG/NGE sucks. The idea to meet on their servers was just that an idea. Perhaps a large virtual reunion on another venue would work better. shrug. Or perhaps no one is really interested in dragging up the past. shrug. However given that there is a populated SWG Veteran Refuge forum here and others who have their own parody news report, I figured I'd throw the idea out there to gauge the interest in a possible reunion/protest style gathering. But I do understand if no one's really intersted and honestly I don't blame them giving the history of SWG.
I think SOE would use it as a marketing tool. "The population has grown by leaps and bounds! Come back now and see for yourself!"
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

You know after thinking about it. You are right. At this point the SOE suits know this game isn't going to improve by design. I think it is only being left open for marketing purposes by LA to keep diehard SW fans interested till their next volly of clone wars related products come out in time with the TV show and/or movie.
The suits won't think that vets are returning to the game. At this point I don't believe they care about even the replacement audience numbers.
So for those interested go live it up on SOE servers for a evening of community and protest. It won't mean anything to the suits, but maybe the current players would like someone to talk to.

Sorry, but this is a bad idea... not only have we tried this multiple times... heck we even spelt "pre-cu" with people... structures... and even used the "help and support" to have devs come and view it... still nothing.
No , i'm sorry.. im not going to give that game a false illusion of hope... SoE deserves for their games to die at this point.. we had told them so many times that we want our game back, and they continue to step on our toes...
sorry man, i like the light-hearted nature of the OP, but at this point it just seems like viral marketing and would do more harm to us...
we really need to let the game die... once and for all.. so someone else can do it right...

As far as viral marketing, lets face it, the suits know its a put on. They know they aren't getting cash from trial accounts. They know the the mythical replacement players have already tried it and left in the 2.5 years since the change. They are not going to sunset this game till the clone wars products come out. Regaurdless if 100,000 paying subs sign up (which even 100 is laughable) they will still shut it down so as not to compete with that new product. A mass thing like this would be spun sure but not with the intent to generate interest in this game, but just so SOE can say they are a success. When everyone in the MMO world knows they aren't. I think it would be funny to point and laugh when they try to spin.
Also I would love to see some fun loving current dev spawn NPC imps saying "you are unlawfully assembled and are ordered to disperse." Then when we don't they turn the fire hose on us. And we all fight and die then leave.
At this point nothing will change where the game is headed. I wouldn't mind pointing and laughing at them on their dime and make some new friends to play on any non SOE servers.

On the whole I would rather double scrub my coin purse that night then see the image of my trapped primary avatar on the vacated server of Kauri.
