AoC is a great game if you are melee or a healer. If you are someone like me who enjoys mage classes, this probably isn't the game for you. Unless you like being 2 shot in pvp with no viable way to keep melee off you. There is a reason why "the outside world:" can't see the offcial forums.
This entire game feels as though it revolves around the innovative melee combat system. Casters are just an after-thought and feel out of place.
Just my two cents. The game is beautiful, and very fun to play as melee (and to a lesser extent healer). I would recommend the game to anyone that wants to melee.

and, what of Spellweaving?
I'm pretty sure rangers are tough biscuits..they're not just melee.
as I recall, conan was original about a barb hacking people to bits, and not spellslingers.
to a lesser extent a healer? healers are more fun in this game then any game i have ever played.... And casters come into there own at 80. Yes you kinda suck on the way up, but this game isn't wow, its not built to be balanced around each lvl, its all about 80 and pvp.
So basically the game sucks from levels 1 through 79?
Nice!
Doesn't work correctly. Pretty much just a light show at this point in time. Even diabled for one class due to bugs. Cosmetic. Available at level 50 only.
I tend to agree actually, I'm playing a Tempest of Set and a Ranger, and it seems far more time was spent on providing the ranger with a great variety of combat moves, where as the Tempest has a limited amount of abilities. Of course, I'm only level 17 and later on the class may come into its own, but right now 5 second roots just aren't doing a whole lot of good.

I suppose being able to nuke harder than the mage classes, have better armor and shield, and the ability to heal would make healers the most fun healers to play in the history of MMOs. I agree 100% with your statement.
Don't get me wrong. I actually like the game. I'm not bashing it as a whole. Its just that the game balance is so far out of whack it actually comical.

Then casters will be even ground when it's fixed most likely.Sub 50 you'll be eating dirt alot. That's the power of steel.

I agree 100%. You make my point for me. Good or bad, its a melee game.
Somethin' wrong with arrows?
Whoever mentioned 5 sec root not cutting it.... lol.
I know, that whenever I have a 5 sec root on me (assassin) I'm gone. If ANYONE manages to keep me from doing damage for 4-5 secs.... I'm a goner. Sins are as squishy as casters, because we wear the same armor... and trust me.... that armor is slim to none.
I seen many level 30+ casters already. Caster clases kick butt in this game too. With some patience and understanding of your class you can be successful at any level. I think what happens is that over the years we have had many mmo games that just button mash their way through content without any real thought, where as AOC requires more knowledge of your surroundings and how to play your class.
Getting to level 30 in this game is like getting to level 10 in other MMOs. Those casters you see running around have not figured it out yet. Multiple level 80 demo's in the class forum have all said how badly demos fall behind. The "we are fine at 80" mantra doesn't hold water imo.
100% disagree when you compare mages to other classes. If mages kick butt, they other classes are god-mode. Mages better than melee? Nope. Better than priests? Nope. Whats left? Rangers? Better DPS, better CC, more survivability.
Mages can kill stuff just like everybody else, but just not as good. Especially after todays fix of a 3 second cooldown on aoe's.
i'm playing a necro and honestly i'm loving it, i haven't had a lot of pvp experience yet as i am still in tortage with it so i cant really comment on pvp balance but so far in pve i can kill groups of 3, almost 4, on my own, it took me a while to do this because it was hard to fight groups of mobs being as squishy as i am but then i figured out how to deal with them and i think they play just fine, ofcourse my DT can kill groups of mobs A LOT easier so i guess it is better to be melee but i enjoy mages better
Expect a smashing wake-up call when you leave tortage.
In Wow people told me same stuff "the game isnt balanced at your lvl wait to until you reach lvl 60 now lvl 70", I cant support this theory especially if the game supports pvp for almost every lvl. There has to be a certain balance and if not there is a problem, thats easy. But there are many mmorpgs out there with similar characteristics. For certain classes it is not possible to balance it totally since the skills they get getting often a lot more powerfull and sometimes these classes suffer between certain player lvl on the way to their next skill lvl.

Well i'm cerrtainly not saying it is a piece of cake. All I'm saying that is just takes more patience and knowledge compared to other mmo games in regards to class play. The best way to go is to group with friends and guild mates
As luck may have it we can look into the past to try and forsee the future.
Other MMOs all had class imbalances .. even games like Ultima Online had serious balance issues and that game was skill based not class.
Remember the plate armored mages of UO ... the flavour of the month build, nerfing mages , archers became overpowered etc etc ...
I think I spent most of my time in Ultima Online retraining my character to be the best pkiller around.
Grandmaster Thief/Archer/Mage
Grandmaster Swordsman/Mage
etc etc ... every MMO todate has had class imbalances .
ABOUT TIME! After EQ1 and all the melee hate it's about time we got a melee centric game! Numbers will prove them right, when it comes down to more play melee and finally a game for us!
I don't know Demo's can lay some serious smackdown in PVP and Necro's are one of the only classes that I have seen lay waste to Guardians with the ease at which they can. These are the only two classes you could be complaining about so i'm not sure which one you are? My friend as a level 50 demo is a beast and can lay waste to almost every class besides Rangers, and I know Necro's can be sort of frustrating but they get a lot better as time goes by. Spellweaving though looks like a blast and I can't wait to roll up an alt to play with it.
Spellweaving is actually really cool and i think it's fine that it only comes in at 50.
However as of yet i have not found a single use for it. It will probably be usefull in raids, but if you let it grow slightly too powerfull and you start loosing health while preparing your spell, beware of bosses that use AoE spells.
As for spell classes - well getting spells only every 5 levels is rather boring i have to say. Not only that, but generaly the spells are upgrades or buffs. Most casters have to run around with at least 4 to 6 buffs running and it's a bit of a pain to see if one is no longer applied and you constantly have re-apply some when you zone.
Necro has been REALLY tough for me right now. In the taking on multi mobs and such. 3 mobs same lvl I am toast. But I can take on players 2 or so lvls higher then me with ease because of kiting and pets beating on them.
Hit the cap then complain. Not every class can have the same exact trip to 80 or the game would be rather dull.
