Emachines upgradable?

SirtakSirtak Member Posts: 17

Hey guys, I'm pretty much an amateur at the whole PC Gaming thing. I was with a few friends last night and we were talking about AoC and how their computers can't run it. 2 of them said they had a Dell and that Dells aren't upgradable. When I asked if Emachines are (What I have) They all replied with a shrug.

So, I've decided to come to gaming and hopefully hardware masters. Are Emachines upgradable(Adding RAM, New graphic cards?)

Thanks in advance!!

Any computer can be upgraded. The question becomes what do you have to replace in order to upgrade it.

Most pre-built machines don't have motherboards that support a whole lot more than what is already on there. If you happen to have a few extra RAM slots, then you can upgrade the RAM. Chances are you wont be able to upgrade the Processor. Doubtful the motherboard is PCI-E 1 or 2.

You could always get a new motherboard/processor/ram/video card. That would still technically be an 'upgrade' because you can salvage the case, HD and disc drives. But it won't be cheap.

So, the anwer is a confusing 'yes and no'.

    It's a PCI. not PCI-E.

    ugg, E-Machine

Save and get a new rig is my best advice.

finance one, look in the paper, take a pc tech class at your local community college and build one.

Upgrading a E-Machine..the new parts you would buy is worth more than the machine

Having sold e-Machines in the past I can tell it's up in the air.   the low end e-Machines are mostly proprietary, and have most slot filled with their stuff.   and limit what can be put in it.   The higher end ones tend to be more like Bare bones systems and have more options as to what you can do.   Be sure to read the box if it says "INTERGRATED" anything you are out of luck for most common upgrades.

My computer isn't really that bad..

    1056MB RAM, 2.20 GHz and it's an AMD Athlon 64 3500+

It's not TERRIBLE... I just need to buy a gig of RAM and a 8800GS card. Not THAT expensive.. 300$ tops from what I saw at my local bestbuy.

Just got a reply from customer service. My RAM is upgradeable to a max of 4096MB.

you won't get  a 8000 in your machine

there is no way a 8800 would fit in your micro tower, to fat and to long

If you must keep your machine, you may try to put more ram in it. But you must have Vista for your cpu to recognize more than 2 gigs

Take your ram with you to Best Buy or if you can, buy from Newegg or Tigerdirect the ram you use.

Your ram stick will tell you what kind it is on the side

Or you can look it up here http://www.4allmemory.com/

It says my video is an ATI RADEON PCI-Express series.

Customer support says my PC can suppoert PCI-E. Sorry for this pointless topic.

also watch out for Hardware dependent Motherboards some boards will only let you use a specfic Graphics chip.

when you get the time, open your case and measure the space you have for you PCI-E slot. Then goto Newegg.com or where ever and see the measurments of the card

Just $300 that is alot of money. Let me save you some money.. First tell us what Emachine you got?

    for Ram -- i bought 2 GB DDR = $30 after rebate..

    Video card - 8800GT 512mb i paid $170 but with $30 rebate so = $140

I thinking your system might not have PCI-Express or just an AGP..Ignore this if your system is PCI-express but warning the 8800GT is so long, I compare my 8600GT to 8800GT it is like a monster.. so make sure it fit in your emachine.

No matter what graphic card u get your cpu is your bottleneck  to get the performance..

If you're looking for some RAM newegg.com has this Configurator that you select what type of computer you have and it tells you what works with it. I also have an emachine and I can stick 2gb more in it for $75.  <3 newegg,

E-Machines are upgradeable, but the parts need to be pulled out of a trash can or it won't recognize them
