I have been looking into FFXI for about a week now.. Only thing is, I dont know who to beleive. Many bad reviews on this game, but just as many good. Seems this game is either worshipped or shunned. I need to make a decision, because I have not bought a game since morrowind, I need a new game badly. I have played other MMORPGS, and I will list them and what I likeddisliked.
Conquer Online: Nothing to do, leveling is boring and work. Played for about a week.
Earth and Beyond: I dont like the auto combat, and it not being a real time flyer. I dont like how it takes forever to get anywhere. I did like its hugeness and its activities. Played through 3 free trials and nonstop for 3 days (borrowed account). Wasnt worth subscription money for me.
Ragnarok Online: Played this game forever. Joined 2 weeks for open beta in iRO, but iRO was slow leveling. It still amused me, then I found a better server, and eventuly even hosting my own. Played this game for about 8 months.
Diablo II: I loved this game, I played very little in the 1.09 and a ton in the 1.10. I would still be playing up the ladder, but the community sucks, badly, all a-holes.. I love everything about this game except for graphics and community.
Graal online: LOL is this even a MMO? I played this game 2x the time of diablo, the gameplay isnt bad and the community is so-so. Had alot of fun with it and the roleplaying.
Thats my background for history of games (hope it wasnt too long to read). I have started my junior year of school and im too poor for a car and i live in a small town, so social life is too expensive. Basicaly I have 5-9 hours a day to play a game, and i want to stick to one game. Is FFXI a good choice for me? I was blown away at the screenshots of it. And im not looking at it like it is real FF game. What i dont like about it is the leveling (is it as bad as RO or Conquer Online?!), but that could be over exagurating of the reviewers. I like real-time action, but i also like turnbased and strategy. I like roleplaying with others. Can i do that in FFXI? Would anyone suggest another game for me to play? I might just go buy FFXI tonight. Sorry for long post but i dont want to waste 50$ and a 14$ subscription, thats alot of money to me.
:edit: Btw my im using a computer that can more than play Doom3 (but i think it sux)

it depens on every person if he likes it or not so Strat maybe you didn't liked it
going off the way he wrote his review of other games, I think he will not like FFXI
he thought playing Ranaganarolkalkajsdf(can't spell this word) Online for 8 months is considered forever? Thats not even out of the newbie stage by real veterans of any MMOG I'd say.
I think u will like the game ... you can never take it easy in ffxi there is always stuffs to do there
Strathdor = noob lol its not too hard getting to lvl 30 and even so, its still a lot of fun before that. There are lots of low lvl quests and missions to do. also you can take up crafting at ANY lvl you want. Go fishing, join a good linkshell, go out and have an adventure with some friends... be creative, instead of just going through the lvl grind and saying the game sucks, becuase you couldn't do anything outside lvling.
also why the hell are you flaming an FFXI board if you think the game sucks and don't play anymore... just go to a WoW or EQ2 thread if you wish to flame FFXI, just dont do it here...
