I just had a laugh when i did read about the xbox implementation into AoC in a couple of weeks.
What are your thoughts in general about possible future mmorpgs which provide mixed access from pc and xbox players ? Seems like a lot of mmos are already out there for xbox and this could be the next trend.

Not mini-modding, but theres another thread above this titled "Should mmorpgs be ported to consoles?"
But anyways, i think its a good idea *IF* the consoles were sound and easy to manage, and there could be some access to a usb keyboard/and or mouse.
Gaming companies are all about money, if they gained an extra 10,000+ subscriptions, at 10-15 dollars a month, we are talking about an extra 100,000 to 150,000 dollars a month.
In a year, thats over a million dollars. Which would pay for its self.
I think it will eventuallty happen. I dont think AoC will have enormous success if it is released within a few weeks... but in general I think this is where MMOs are gonna go. The advance on to consoles is just a generation away. When we get PS4 or whatever in 5-8 years I think consoles will be a huge part of the MMO industry. I am really sick of the whole PC upgrade game. 49$ for the game, 250$+ for a new graphics card, ram etc. It's a waste of money when iIcan buy an xbox game for 60$ and it works the way it was made to. No upgrades required. I know this strikes a chord with the PC gamers out there..... Some say it'll never happen or it will suck. Or they just like the feel of a PC. Fine. I am a PC gamer also, but i am done upgrading my PC. Wake up PC gamers the only people winning is Nvidia.
Another reason i think MMOs will come to consoles ... Xbox Live has est. 10 million subscribers world wide. (source unknown -- word of mouth). It's only resonable to assume that MMO developers want a piece of that pie.
More like 6 months+ It is going to require a whole new design system.
I can see it happening, and I don't like it. Perhaps a gaming system in the future will have a keyboard; how else will you chat with other players? Then again, teamspeak is big now; but do you really want to teamspeak with someone whom you've never met? It will kill immersion if that cute elf you're talking to has a manly voice ROFL.
To the gentleman who doesn't like upgrading his PC every few years; you'll be trading that in for upgrading your gaming system every few years. PS, PS2, PS3, etc. Now you have something you invested in that has no other use other than gaming. You'll likely still have to upgrade your computer unless you don't do anything productive with it.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
Platforms are converging, it's the way of future gaming. Best get used to it.

Consoles are continuing to get better and better. In the future, there will probably be a console that will last for decades, with some minor upgrades along the way.
Consoles are probably going to get advanced enough to be basically a PC, with some console features.
Consoles are going to become more popular soon, PC's are just nice because you can have one for all your real needs, as well as use it for gaming.
I cant argue that I wont spend money upgrading the console, but its less frequent and surely costs less than buying a new PC. Also, games can be rented via gamefly which ios another plus.
I have been a hardcore gamer and hardcore console gamer too for a very long time. With the current consoles, i never use a keyboard and mouse, as it seems to ruin the console experience. Controllers, while they can be annoying sometimes, are very fun addition when playing games that are first person shooters.
If im in the mood for some quick shooting fun, all i have to do it start up xbox, pop in halo 3, and get rolling.
If im in the mood for a fun, long session (sounds odd), such as an rts or mmorpg, i would pick the pc easily.
While consoles i can have a long fun, such as in games Oblivion, and Mass effect.
It all depends on the gamer, and the game.
Consoles are prolly going to become as versatile as a PC in the near future. Before consoles could not access the internet now they can get downloads of movies, music, and games. And on the plus side it will not cost as much as a PC and will prolly last many years without having to upgrade.
Also in the near future the internet will become obsolete when the GRID comes to the public and this will help consoles a lot when it comes to the online community.
I dont' know what the grid is. But i agree with the above post
Graphics can only go so far, and once consoles can support even the prettiest games, there don't be as much updating, and which would attract more buyers.
And as the graphics and hardware don't need to be upgraded, patches and add-ons could come out that include things the pc have, allowing the console to become basically a pc.

Hehe interesting topic.
But thats already been used sort of.
I personally enjoy the idea of being able to play games with my friends who own consoles but never really got into computer gaming.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
You can tell by the stupid combo system of AoC that is will be ported to the console.
I'm glad Warhammer will never be ported to the console.
A great pc MMORPG will never work on a dumbed down console.
MMORPGS on Consoles = Ew.
MMORPGs are meant to be played on PC for continual download content. Besides, if let's say...players in Age of Conan start designing mods and add-ons for the game. THe people with the console version won't be able to utilize them...at least not much.
Just like how the people who have Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion on consoles miss out on all the fancy-fun mods that are made available for players with the PC version (*er-hem* Cloud Mods, Extra Cities, Adult Content FTW).

Its not like AoC is the first
FFXI was multiplatform in 2002.
Xbox 360 has updates all the time for different games...I doubt that it would be that hard.
For those that think the controller wouldn't work...I disagree because once you get used to a controller it can almost be easier than a pc. Maybe menus and such could be a pain, but if it was designed right there is NO reason to "dumb" it down.

hehe, trust me. I know they HAVE updates (they should, it's only logical). But "mods" and "add-ons", they will not have - to the extent that the PC versions will have, to have fun with and play around with and shove into the faces of those who own the console version. If you've played Everquest or WoW, you'd know what I mean. (heck, even Elder Scrolls and shooters on PC [i.e. you can get a HUGE gallery of custom skins for your characters for shooters on PC, not console version])

The new generation of console MMORPGs will grow, as consoles grow more powerful and people refuse to give money and upgrade their PCs.
I don't know what people are complaining about with the upgrades for PC. Its not like you have to upgrade every time you buy a new game. Sure every few years you will have to upgrade a component or two but every few years you have to buy a new console. I don't know about you guys but I use my PC for a lot more than just games Internet, movies, forums, chat, etc. It is a lot more versatile than a console. With a console you can play games, movies and only buy content from their party. I would hate to see an mmo on the 360 taking up so much HDD space and having to go buy MS severely over priced xbox HDD. And if the console and the PC do converge I fail to see how it is any different from a PC. Over the years consoles seem to be getting closer to PC that plug into a tv. While the PC has pretty much the same concept.
They already have keyboards. I prefer voice in all games .. so you know who you are talking to. Do you really want to treat that cute elf like a girl if it is really some bug ugly hairy dude, or if that big strong warrior is really a lil boy? I for one do want to know ..
