Dear WoW Players:
I am a college student conducting survey research for an undergraduate project. The survey is about the motivations of WoW players. I want to find out the initial reason people start to play WoW.
I am in desperate need of subjects...that is why I am posting this.
Just Copy-Paste the URL Below:

If you have any questions or comments - just let me know.
Thanks,
Jenny

I would say the initial reason is probably to pass time with entertainment like any other game.
I joined up cause friends were on so it was fun passing time together in all around social and fun game.
I've moved over to AoC for a breath of fresh air. WoW is dead imo. It's not bringing anything new to the table. No endgame, all gear grind.
WoW fanboi: "lolz 11.5 million customers, itz obviously da best"
McDonald's: over 1 billion burgers served
I'm an MMO Junkie. I've been playing them for years now. I never found one that I could play for more than a couple of months until I tried WoW in early 2005.
I've since drafted many of my friends into playing as well. Although we now find ourselves getting tired. I think the reason WoW is the ruling MMO is because, to be honest, it's the easiest.
No death penalty (debt, loss of xp, etc.)

Easy to learn, great tutorial.
All one needs is time to get the best gear, skill is not that much of an issue.
I've tried almost every MMO on the market and I have narrowed down the successes of WoW to just plain difficulty level. Casual gamers are where the biggest market is for making money in an MMO, so naturally if an MMO markets itself to the elitists and is challenging or difficult, those casual gamers are going to move on.
