good fps on old machine!

ok well i have a pentium D 2.8ghz (x2), 2 gig ddr2 ram, 512mb 8600gt vid card, running 32bit xp home.

i just got an extra gig of ram today ( from 1 to 2 gigs) and it made a HUGE difference. at this point in the game i would say 2gigs is a minimum to make the game playable.

i can get around 30-40 fps outside of town and around 20fps in town with settings on low, shader 2.0, no shadows, no water reflections, no grass, and the view range at about 1000m.

That seems a pretty new graphic card to me, and fps figures are pointless without indicating the resolution - 1680x1050 versus 1024x768 would make a massive difference. I think the issues are bugs in the way the game configures against specific cards anyway - seems as though this graphics card is ok.

2G of ram should be a minimum for everyone, just because it's cheap and it makes a huge difference to everything.

You will see that you can turn your graphics quality a lot higher. The processor is the bottleneck of your system, and as such your framerates depend on it.

I have a p4 3 ghz (it's truly slow) and that's the ultimate bottleneck. I have a HD 3850, meaning I have most setting ons max with 8x aa 16x af, the works 1280*1024, and I get 30-35 in outdoor/indoor and 15~ in cities.

I get roughly the same with all settings low and at 1024*768
