I canceled my subscription today- reason no support or communication

I don't really expect anyone to care that I canceled but made this post just to let people whoi have not bought yet , do so with a bit of caution. If you have any issues with the game running do not expect Funcom to be of any help.

There is a reason they will not let you read their forums until you buy the game so buyer beware.

The patch 2 days ago broke the game for me. not just for me, for a lot of people.  We have begged for a indication that Funcom was aware of the problem on the tech forums and were ignored. There are a least a dozen threads started by people with the same problem, some of the threads over ten pages long. Not once has a Funcom moderator or tech person replied to any of the threads.

I submitted a email ticket to tech support over 48 hours ago and have recieved nothing but a auto reply.

If they fix the game to where it will launch for me or if Funcom decides to instigate some communication on the problem I may reconsider and  resubscribe.

    I post on baords for one reason and one reason only - amusement. If my posts anuses only one person - ie me then it has served it's purpose.

    if my post gets the attention of one person in Funcom's management and they decide to improe their CS department it serves it's purpose.

    if my post causes one person not to support a company that has crap for CS then it serves it's purpose

    find one post where I said I hated the game. My account is still good to the 28th anyway. I am hoping that it may be fixed by tehn so I can decide whether I want to subscribe or not. Also if don't get it fixed by thenI am sure in a few months they start sending out the "come back to Hyboria" emails and I will fire it up then and see if it is fixed.

    If you are in the US Circuit City was selling the game for 40 bucks last week and Best Buy would do a price match.

    Because you and 400,000 other bug reporters are reporting aswell. Are you expecting some lighting fast fix for something that needs to be addressed in code?

     Get a better computer, Game launches fine on my puter look at my sytem below if you want to be pointed in the right direction.

    But for for serious I'm sorry you cant launch into game. I would be uber pissed myself if it was happening to me. But i would of known that i shouldnt of bought it after i spent 10 dollars on the game 5 for the pre oder and 5 for the 10 extra days of EA. So i would of been out 10 dollars instead of 50 had it not launched for me. bug bug bugs gotta hate bugs.

    yeah LoTRO, CoH and EQII spoiled me. I actaully expect a MMORPG to run at launch, foolish me. I also expect  CS to at least give me a "we are aware of your probl;em and are working on it replay. 
    I guess tech support forums are just there to take up disk space.

    Well that 400K will be dwindling pretty rapidly to where they should be able to handle the load the way things are going.
     Get a better computer, Game launches fine on my puter look at my sytem below if you want to be pointed in the right direction.
    E8400 on a Gigabyte board, 7.1surround sound, 8800 GTS 640 video and 2 gig of ram on XP Pro. Not top of the line but good enough where I could play at a decent framerate and get pretty graphics when it would run

    Seriously though it is not the bugs which has me pissed and I do like what I saw of the game. It is the lack of communication that Funcom is presenting.

    Well you can read all the dirt on AoC here so it doesnt matter to me. I havent even visited there forums and I have a active account.

    Lotro come ON are you serious who cares if that Pile worked, CoH i hear is ok but its wasn't as many people trying to play that one at launch. As for EQ2 they have already had the experiance with MMO's they can launch a MMO and have it at least playable. EQ1 now Bugs bugs bugs server down down down snore snore snore and this was still going on for more then a year. So its a new mmo with a new style of play.  If your hear to amuse yourself i will be here to provide u with the entertainment.

    this game isnt Vanguard now come on its increaseing fast. Already fastest selling mmo and already getting new servers. Vanguard lost all its population day one.

    LoTRO is a decent game, not my cup of tea, but to say "Who cares if that peice of crap worked" it's just retarded. Secondly, Funcom has experience with launching an MMO as well, it's called Anarchy Online, so that point is mute as well. There is an issue when games release in such a buggy and unfinished state, and people just roll over and take it saying "Well, it's only been out for a week(s)/Month(s)." Specially with the years of development and beta testing these games go through. And yes, I understand every patch brings new problems, but I agree with Jackdog in that the CS needs to be good. You wouldn't take this crap from any other market, you but a brand new top of the line computer from dell, plug it in and it won't start you're not going to settle if the customer service/Tech support sucks and won't help or give you any information to fix your new computer, so why settle for it with an MMO?

    game crashes after hitting play and before the intro movies. Ran fine till last Tuesday mornings patch.

    E8400, Gigabyte motherboard, XP pro, 2 gig performance ram, EVGA 8800GTS, 7.1 surround sound

    gamne ran decent first few days. Some minor graphic glitches etc. Crashed to desktop a couple of times when zoning. been a running thread on the problem on the tech boards, no one seems to have much in common. Some XP users some Vista, some AMD, some Intel, some Nvidia some ATI.

    Oh and for the guy who said I over estimate the value of my subscription, guess what? Vanguard sold a couple of hundred thousand copies also and look where they are now. The game is ok but not so great that a couple of good bugs won't cause people to hit that cancel button. Enough people do and you have another Horizons here.

    Same old Funcom. Spray the boards with hype and hope enough sticks to sell some boxes. Screw retention.

    Hmm, that's a pretty odd problem.  I would try maybe getting newest nvidia drivers.   They came out maybe 2 weeks ago and see how that goes.    If that fails do a reinstall, you might have a corrupt file or something.  I have about 45 people in my guild actively playing the game, and the 8800 is probably one of the most used cards.  None of my members have had a problem like this.

    does it crash as you are loading the intro movie?  Maybe just delete that movie and force it to redownload it?  Maybe the movie was corrupted on your machine or something...

    I admit, that does seem odd and seems to be highly random on system specs.  Are you running anything overclocked?  Maybe resetting it back down to the system specs and seeing if that launches it might help.

    don't know why, but it just feels like a corrupt file to me.  I've no scientific data to support that, just a gut feeling because where you are crashing it shouldn't really matter on the system specs.  Hell that part runs just fine on a AMD 3100 with an ATI x1300, so it shouldn't be at all taxing on your system.

    If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it here though...

    Have you tried updating graphics card, or did windows give you a update aswell? have u tried reinstalling the whole game. You have nothing to lose and the fact that people are posting about it is the reason you havent recieved a message yet. They are working on it as not everyone has the same system and that is the problem with PC gaming right now. Every system is differant and its hard to make a game for that and that is the reason. Your PC.

    windows updated yesterday or day before

    tried several driver changes for video card, all other drivers up to date

    killed all process's in my tray except my firewall and I set that to game mode

    reinstalled 3 times now. Defragged and ran a registry cleaner and a cookie cleaner between each instalation

    a bunch of us experiancing the same problem tried comparing PC's in a thread over there on the tech forums. Many many configs. We could find no common thread.

    tried half a dozen otehr fixes suggested by people who are having the same issue or had it in beta

    if they get it fixed by June 28 fine, if not I may retry it in the future when they have a free trial

    Point is the game needed to stay in the oven longer. Also their tech support leaves a lot to be desired. Whether you like LoTRO or not Turbine sets the standard on tech support. Cryptic is not far behind and even old SOE has gotten the message.

    ........waits for a fanboy to tell me how Turbine/SOE/Cryptic tech support screwed them

    Even if the game still crashed a email or two responding to my tech support ticket or a moderator posting in the tech forums on the threads on this issue would have stopped me from hitting the cancel button this morning and I would not be half so pissed off right now.

     

    edit -  the movies play fine in a dedicated Bink player and if you delete them the patcher just re downloads them.  However when you hit play it is like the exe file can't find them

    Did todays patch work? did you delete everything off your computer? have you tried rolling back your windows to when it did work? the update could of did ur shyte in. but on a side now hows ur E8400? u OCing it?

    not oc 'ing and EQII and LoTRO run fine.  The game is crashing on startup so nothing really has a chance to heat up anyway

     

    still broke after this patch and I tried a fresh install. I am trying to convince myself to do a rollover on my HD and reinstalling my op system but just can't persuade myself the game is worth that much hassle
