ARE there any pve servers? Is it possible to level up safely before you go PVP? If it's nothing but full pvp with idiots then, this game's dead already.
Edit: PVP servs' are mandatory that you need to be in a guild to level & survive, by the way. Unwritten rule.

There are servers in AoC set up for players that do not like FFA PvP...why come to a FFA PvP and cry? Go to one of the many PvE servers with their optional PvP areas. That way you do not have to worry about getting PK'd.

AoC is all about PvP and people shouldn't complain about it. Instead, get organized and do something about it (join a guild, get some friends to lvl together, try to avoid hot spots, etc).

Aoc is not gank fest but there are some individuals acting like retards, killing and attacking everything in sight, while you talk to NPC, when you fight mobs, when you spawn on spawn point.
For example i was walking trough some zone yesterday when lvl 30 POM attack me (im lvl 65). I was taking steps back because i didnt want to kill him as lowbie, but when i saw that he isnt stoping i killed him. After that he started 10 minutes /tell hell with insults against me and my playstile...i goofed arround a bit leting him do his desperate act of "insults" then i just ignored him (player name is Akiro)
I guess it depends on ppl who are playing. My guild have strict rules and we kicked one of our members because not fallowing rules. He was ganking some low lvl players.
My personal rules are never to attack lower lvl player, or player who just spawned or fighting monster.
On other side i did have 45 minute manhunt on two players who attacked me while i was doing some quest. I had to kill some mobs that spawn rate is not too good so two of them came and started attacking me, i runed like hell and then i started to hunt them, killed them bouth about 3 times and that was it. One great scene that i will remember...i fallow them hiden, they are harvesting mobs and pull too much, one of them die and one survive hiding on top of some hill. I sneak up behind him, he was on about 85% HP. I standed behind him and just apeared. He turned back, i looked at him for 2 seconds then BAM heartseaker combo instagib. That was end.
From time to time i agree with some bully stile play...like for example when guildies and me tryied to do arena quests so ppl were comming and we told them to go away at first...who didnt go we forced him to go, ppl must know whos boss in town.
When game started we were all excited and there was some PvP killing, with that somehow we got into KOS war with Ragnarok guild. We realised how its stupid to gank each other then we made peace..and that was it.
So with reasonable players you can talk, with idiots...find good guild that will protect you and strike back so they learn not to F with you.

Some people love to kill and cause chaos because it makes them feel big. Best thing to do is just be the person who lives by their morals. Every PvP game I've been in, I've always gotten ganked at some point, it's going to happen, part of a PvP server. You just learn to take it in turn and try to do your part to make your community better. Join a close nit guild to help you when you are getting greafed, and start grouping more so you're not out there on your own. In a way the PvP system has incuraged grouping in the game again for safety in numbers.
Remember, if you die in PvP, the only drawback is a respawn point, a rebuffing, and one more death on your record. You don't lose exp, you don't lose money, just a bit of time. Learn from each experience, keep an eye out and have fun.
Lastly, if you still don't like it, maybe you're not ready for the PvP servers. get some practice with your class on the PvE server and come back when you're good and ready.

The principle of FFA PvP is that players are supposed to be the police. If you demand that devs add rules, guards and whatnot to limit pvp, then it's not FFA anymore.
The sentence "ganking is not pvp" makes no sense at all. Think it through. What are pvp servers for? Their purpose is to allow spontaneous world pvp.
Spontaneous world pvp always start with someone ganking someone else. The gankee can chose to take it to the next level and fight back, get friends if necessary... Or go cry on the forums, but don't expect any sympathy then.
Corpse camping is also an integral part of it. It's a way to provoke people into focusing more on pvp (because they want revenge) instead of just carebearing through their damn uest and grinding all day long.
But of course, if everyone just QQ and don't try to overcome the adversity, then it can never evolve to a more sophisticated level than basic ganking.
Also, corpse camping is not something new or specific to AoC. I don't like AoC much, but I just don't see how it could be worse than WoW. Corpse camping and such things happen in WoW all the time, too.
I think biggest cause of complaints stem from Funcom's decision not to create a RP PVE server in the States, which means many role players joined the RP FFA PVP servers thinking somehow more RP was going on. (I'm willing to bet 80% of players on those servers don't RP). They are not happy with FFA PVP.
In fact, most gamers have never played in a true FFA PVP environment, and especially in level based games, you really have to re-think your gaming strategy.
Defense has to be first and formost on your mind at all times. Group up when possible, watch your back, try to travel the paths less likely to be camped, learn to run like crazy and train up all defensive skills (hide, running speed etc)

He is probably still in Tortage where it doesn't matter. You have to be in another instance for the PvP part to work. I believe WS is the first area where this occurs.

I play on Aquilonia (EU RP-pvp) and people prefer to grp with me instead of fighting out who gets to kill the boss quest type mob. So far i v only been ganked once in 25 lvls.
I wonder why, the powers that be, would not think of making a RP server for questers and the like. Do they think everyone wants to role play a battle hungry marauder? I find it a very blinkered view of the world of gaming. There's as many different types of gamers as there are gamers in this world we should all see that.
1. First of all, it really wasn't made very clear that PVP was FFA and that lvl 40 killing a lvl 10 was possible. I checked the docs and the game help, this was NOT mentioned. I'm a bit angry because I put a considerable amount of time in my character and I am sick I tired of being Griefed or ganked so starting over in PVE doesnt interest me much. I am more tempted to start over in a new MMORPG then do tortage all over again. I think AOC is great, but the PVP situation is intolerable. Blame is on FUNCOM.
In 4 days I have amassed 121 deaths in PVP. With the exception of 6 deaths that were considered "fair" the rest were against oppenents that A) I had no chance to defeat, seriously outnumbered by as many 4-1, C) spawncamped, D) attacked in a weakened state (while fighting a monster). Griefers might think this is "fun" -I dont. AOC is a good game, but if I am not having any fun because of online jerks, I am going to open my account page and click "CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION" as I suspect many others will too based on the number of complaints which I have heard is considerable. WAR might not have a better combat system (I haven't seen it yet), but the PVP system is definately better organized. AOC has the best combat system hands down, which is why every single new MMORPG in 2009 will copy it, so I hope they dont rest on their laurels and think the combat system will make up for the PVP shortfall.
2. Griefing lowbies is just cowardly. Yesterday, I got so annoyed, I called this lvl 53 Ranger who griefed my lvl 24 a chicken****, that pissed him off plenty because he knew it was true. If he can be a jerk so can I, albeit in a different method.
If a player has no possibility of defense and you are attacking him then you are being an ass. No excuses like "I am bored", "I am RP a mass-murderer" you are jerk. People grief for one reason alone: TO BE A JERK. Same goes for Gankers my lvl 22 vs 3 lvl 32 is just lame, and they do it only to ruin my experiance. There is no other reason.
The problem is not the griefing and ganking its the fact that their is no punishment system for such actions. I don't think the "griefer prison" is going to work because people will simply look for exploits to avoid it. If they get sent to prison they will simply logoff an play another character, or they will amassed so much wealth that the penalty will be insignifcant.
I like Darkfalls approach. You can be a jerk, but if you are, NPC stop trading, you cannot visit certain areas without being immediatly attacked by NPC Guards..., and you will have to continuallly dodging bounty hunters of both NPC and players, Basicially your a** is toast.
Actions have consequences, unlike AOC where you can be a total jerk and get away with it.

If you mean that I don't like FFA is its implimented now which encourges people to act like an ass. -your right and neither do many many PAYING customers. If they were like 3 levels higher then me, that's different. I think funcom should punish ganking (5+ level ranges). Save the World PVP for when your higher, it won't matter till then anyway, jerks.
this is why its important to have natural teams in the game - or faction vs. faction

in 29 levels on one toon, I've been ganked once and that was over a silver node. In 22 levels on a second character I've not yet been ganked...

Solution: roll on a PVE server and quitcherbitchin.

People grief for one reason alone: TO BE A JERK. Same goes for Gankers my lvl 22 vs 3 lvl 32 is just lame, and they do it only to ruin my experiance. There is no other reason.
The problem is not the griefing and ganking its the fact that their is no punishment system for such actions. I don't think the "griefer prison" is going to work because people will simply look for exploits to avoid it. If they get sent to prison they will simply logoff an play another character, or they will amassed so much wealth that the penalty will be insignifcant.
I like Darkfalls approach. You can be a jerk, but if you are, NPC stop trading, you cannot visit certain areas without being immediatly attacked by NPC Guards..., and you will have to continuallly dodging bounty hunters of both NPC and players, Basicially your a** is toast.
Actions have consequences, unlike AOC where you can be a total jerk and get away with it.
I won't comment on the rest of your post. It's pretty obvious that you dislike the rules of the FFA PvP server. However ...
I like the last bit ... "I like Darkfalls approach." It's like saying I like to play with the rules of a game the doesn't exist. (For the record, WAR, AIon, Spellborn, Stargate etc. do not exist either. Yet.).
If you mean that I don't like FFA is its implimented now which encourges people to act like an ass. -your right and neither do many many PAYING customers. More than RP a game is about having fun, but if a game isn't any fun those paying customers go elsewhere. . If you mean FFA is permitted BUT their are consequences of your actions then yes I support that, as it adds an interesting gameplay element.
In short. I am against anything that ruins MY enjoyment of the game. Remember this FUNCOM would rather lose 1 griefer who because he was not permitted to reenact is sociopath fanasties, then lose than allow 10, 50, 100, 10,000 people who quit in frustration because they cannot enjoy the game.
I only mentioned Darkfall and WAR -the other games you brought up. And BOTH those games will be almost certainly be released, WAR is already in beta..
It doesnt change anything if the games are released or not . The fact is, is that the competitors have already thought out the griefer / ganker problem BEFORE game release shows a certain lack of foresight on FUNCOM's part.
One game reviewer (Gamespy) I read said the system was a step backward to the pre-WOW days.

I hate when people say this. I want to play on a PvP server, but at the same time, I want to at least have a chance to get to level 80. Everywhere I go I get ganked. If they were like 3 levels higher then me, that's different. I think funcom should punish ganking (5+ level ranges). Save the World PVP for when your higher, it won't matter till then anyway, jerks.

this is why its important to have natural teams in the game - or faction vs. faction
otherwise the 'everyman for himself' concept will stir everyone to gank anyone and leave the common man burdened by this overwhelming paranoia that if you see someone you'll have to start swinging - no friends
