Blackstar!

I saw a catchy game title on mmosite called Blackstar last week, and went to their site to check it out ( http://www.spacetimestudios.com/games/ ).  The artistic design of the game really caught my eye, and it was one of the first things I noticed.  Looking at the concept art, I thought that it was a nice blend of sci-fi and fantasy.  I checked out the video, and noted the impressive visuals.

The official site barely has any info on the game, which is really disappointing, so I went around gaming sites to look for any news/info about it.  Turns out the game used to be funded by NCSoft, but they pulled the plug earlier this year in Jan 08.  I'm thinking, Why?  It looks like it has a lot of potential.  Judging from the albeit short video clip, i gather they already have a lot of stuff done.  I'm personally pretty hyped about this game, and would like to see more news about it if at all possible.  Maybe the devs are keeping their content super hush hush.

Anyone have any more info on the game?    I'd like to see more videos.

Oh and one other game I'm pretty hyped about is The Chronicles of Spellborn.  Both look very beautiful.

I was also pretty impressed with the visuals. It looks like it's a SWG (with both land and space combat) type game, which I really dig. It must be really early in development because there's not even a community site, and very little info beyond that. I bet NCsoft dropped it because they are trying to focus on their own scifi title tabula rasa, which is an ok game. I hope spacetime can find another publisher to help make this game really cool, or that they can handle it on their own and that  they release more info on this game soon.

I checked it out, and I know Jeff Freeman is over at STS now (he was the push behind the NGE) Lets hope they don't screw this one up.

There are a lot of negative feelings associated with SWG. And rightly so, the change was the problem, not how SWG works now. I could talk more about the changes to SWG but this isn't the place. If they start a game with a simplified system for leveling and advancement such as the way NGE is now, I think they will be better for it. It encourages new players to join in, it's easier to balance, it's more efficient etc. etc. There's no reason they can't go back later and expand upon the system, as time and money allow. So long as the prepare their engine to handle these kinds of upgrades later there's nothing wrong with this sort of evolution with a purpose. SWG I think went more along the lines of guess and check evolution. If you look at SWG now with new eye's it's a solid game. The problem is that there's a large alienated exfanbase out there that really hamper any attempt by the devs to make a good game.

Here's to Blackstar, a new beginning

You left out the part about SWG not being fun to the people who left. If it was fun for them they would be playing it.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, but this is not the place to talk about SWG this thread is about Blackstar. Please send me a private message if you would like to further discuss SWG or redirect me to a new thread.

I did some more looking around. massively has a good selection of articles related to blackstar. They also linked to some neat character models. The models are much more styleized, almost like 3D anime characters than traditional MMO character. B* has an over emphasis on the eye's that I really like in anime. Exagerating details like this will be good for the third person perspective making lots of options for emotes and expressions more poignant (sp?) if they animate the faces like they did in SWG.
