It is developing to become a great game, but you only get one chance to really impress, and Sigil/SOE blew that.

I have noticed in the past couple if weeks the popularity of V:SOH to raise. I myself was not interested in it, but with all the posts about how it has dramatically improve it is becoming a must see for many people.

Those who were disappointed by AoC have also began to take an interest in this game considering that their AoC ready system is also now more then capable of handling the requirements for V:SOH.

Can it rise to success? Well if those that are playing decide to stick around and bring their friends in, word of mouth can be a very powerful thing. Especially for a game like V:SOH in which there is no where to go but up.

I voted yes because I think it will.  If people are stubborn and hard headed enough to try something once and give up on it for life, we all better just quit now.

It's come a long way and is moving along at a solid pace.  Perhaps it will never equal WoW's population, but I believe the trial will open eyes and make people realize just how good the game is.

I don't want any game to fail and I don't play these silly little "my game is better and it will kill yours/it's better than yours" antics that FLOOD these forums, but I believe there are enough people out there looking for something different and I think the option to try VG out on a trial will go along way in "relaunching" Vanguard.

*Everything stated above is my opinion and should be taken that way*

I voted yes, but it all depends on how well the trial island does when it's released.  At the moment SOE management is the ball and chain around VG's feet.  The devs have done an amazing job with the limited resources on offer, but more resources are need, i.e money and extra devs to give the game the polish and higher level content thats needed. If the trial island is successful and subs increase hopefully SOE will release the much needed resources to change VG from a good game to a great game.

I think that "success" should be defined.  Do you define success only in terms of, "Is the game profitable?"

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

I highly doubt it. First impressions mean a lot when it comes to MMOs, just look at EQ2.

Look at EQ2. . . looking. Active player base. Expansions being released regularly and selling pretty well. I guess that spells failure.

I voted yes but it will take a lot of word of mouth, as Sony does not seem to be interested in putting some money behind marketing this game atm.

Is the game worth a second look , most definitely YES!! I have been playing the game since prelease and do not plan on leaving anytime soon, as the game keeps getting better every game update.

    Good luck and Peace!!

    I think the potential is there -- as stated previously, I think AoC can be a gateway to people checking out vanguard.  If the game is really shaping up (I don't know, ordered a a copy online for cheap but am still waiting for it) then SOE should try and push for a re-release between now but not too close to Warhammer.  Heck, the idea of a trial island could potentially turn off the AoC folks ( ' ;

hey guys! Right now i an a LOTR player and i gave AoC a chance (i dont think its for me)  I was wondering when you guys think the Trial Island will be out.  I gave the trial Island for EQII a shot but really the character motions in that game really really turn me off.  Im sure the game is real deep and really immersive, i just did not like the character design and models.  Vanguard on the other hand looks like it has some serious potential to finally give me that MMO drive i ahve been looking for.  I have done some reading and have found out that the updates are making this game better and better but i dont see anywhere that a trial island is under way.

    Battag,

I put this in another thread I think a few days ago, but basically here's the spill (as I know it).  The dev team knows they need a trial to get people back in the game and it's a top priority.  They're not giving specific dates because all those seem to do is get them blasted if they miss them (whether by a day or 2 weeks) - just ask the Funcom guys about that  : P

My guess is that it will be released in the new couple of months.  The game (performance wise) is just about where it needs to be, and the community is growing daily. (especially since you can pick up the game for $7-15 online).

I don't think it will be too much longer now. :)

Yes, it has an active core base, but aside from that there isn't much left. Few people are coming back to it, few new players are trying it. The popularity of the game has been pretty steadily low for a while now, despite the fact the game is now pretty damn good (aside from a few quarrels I have with the way they set up pvp). Population wise EQ2 hasn't really improved, and I don't expect much of an improvement from Vanguard either. I do expect to have fun with the game once I pick it up in ~6-8 months.

I recently bought this game and it was a total ripoff.  It's over a year old and it still has major bugs that should never had made it past beta-testing.  I never go back to a game that I have tried and thought was awful.  That's like hitting your hand with a hammer then a year later when your hand has healed hitting it again thinking maybe it won't hurt this time.  I shall never try another Sony Online game again.

I wonder why are you so critical to ocasional VG bug, when your favourite game - WoW has actually more gameplay bugs at the moment. (mobs that don't move but engage, combat bug, loot bug, invisible mobs, mobs stacked below ground...) that occur actually much more frequently than a few rare gameplay bugs in Vanguard.

I didn't run to a bugged VG quest for a very long time. Can you please describe at least one major bug as you just wrote it here? Just one example please.

I wonder why people always blame SOE for a game's failures? SOE only did the marketing for Vanguard when it was released.  Had nothing to do with the game itself, and not sure of involvement now, but if it is more than marketing, they're picking up the pieces.

SOE only published the game. It was made and run by a company called Sigil who went out of business almost exactly one year ago. So they ran it for about the first 6 or 7 months. SOE bought it when they folded and has been fixing it up for about a year now.

Come on people. Dont be so harsh or critical. I mean, come on. I know when I play a game for an hour, I know everything about it. Not to mention my machine, runs flawlessly at all times and could not be the reason for any such enomolies, like maybe forgeting to update drivers and such before running the game, adjusting setting to better match harware .... and the list could continue. Excuse me, I must go hit my hand with a hammer, as it helps me think!!

    NOOOT!!!

But really, this is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their educated opinions without having to give any reason. Someone might be able to help or something so that a person might actually be able to enjoy the game.

Seriously, Vanguard ROCKS and is one of the best MMO's out to date!!!

    Peace!!

I beta'd Vanguard and played for a few months; but I really think AoC is much more fun.

    Glad your enjoying it Praxus.

But Vanguard has made a complete 180  from what it was at release. In my opinion Vanguard is better than, well, you know, as it has an entirely open world, no instances, complete player control as to what can be done, lots of races and classes, different class tree's (Pallies, Clerics, Shammies....), awesome crafting, new and different Diplomacy system ( haven't seen that in any other game, correct me if I'm wrong please), some of the best graphics available, plentiful quests, class specific gear, challenging mobs, raiding, UI tools (LFGroup, LFGuild, Raid, Brotherhoods...), great performance, fantastic community, possibly the best future for a high fantasy based MMO and so many other things.

    Good luck and Peace!!

This may sound strange but I met a person ingame, we talked a bit and we shared system specs.

They were the same, although his perfomance was alot better than mine.

He told me to check the (triple buffing) box in  graphic settings

Bam, the game runs 100% smoother.

I think it has some thing to do with memory on your video card, which I got plenty with 512.

VG will only get better. I hope SoE has at least a few devs devoted to the progress and not one like I have heard.

Glad the game is working well for you with such a simple fix in settings.

As to your comment, if you dont see it in print from Sony now a days, DONT believe the hype. I assure you that that they have more than 1 person working on performance issues.

Hope to cya in game and good luck.

    Peace!!
