Some good things
-It stays true to the FF universe
-They have a good class system
-Its not a D&D clone
Bad things
-Big level grind
-It not really any different than other MMOs
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
I played it for 2 months. It is a good game but I just got sick of the Anime. Maybe its just me but I just cant tolerate the style and look of the characters. I want the characters to look like they could kill something. I gave up on Dolls when I was about nine years old.
Sorry for the rant.
That which does not kill you only makes you stronger.
I thought it was a great game but the grind was too much for me, But I cant really stand any grind so thats not much. I think it was one of the best I have played and if you dont mind the grind you'll love it.

There are only three bad things I can possibly think of.
1. Its a huge level grind after about level 20.
2. It takes forever to find a group if your not in a good linkshell.
3. There is a lot of farming for nearly every class but thief.
Hope it helps!

Good things
---Graphics are pretty decent, cool looking monsters, feels awesome to fell a Giant with a group
---Crafting System is pretty cool
---Gameplay is fun, I played for about 3-4 months before I got bored
Bad things
---Level Grind
---Fact that if your not a whm or a tank it could take a very long time to find a group
---Fact that you NEED a group after level 9 or so
---Language Barrier (Note I played the first 4 months of the games release, maybe it has gotten better)
I have made many posts about FFXI. I'd just like to say that it is a good mmorpg that I had fun playing. With that said, I want to advise anyone interested in any mmorpg to be careful about taking other peoples comments as fact.
Everyone will have different opinions about different games, I would recommend trying the game out and making your own decision. Now, I know that the game costs money and not everyone can afford to buy a few mmrogps to try. There are some that offer trials, but unfortunately FFXi does not at this point in time.
So, by all means, read and soak in other players experiences and opinions about FFXI, but understand that some people will love it, some will hate it. Some will say it sucks and others will say it is the best. My humble opinion of FFXI is that it was a good, fun mmorpg, and has lots of depth and much content, which all added up to some fun times playing for me. Some features I didn't like too much, such as the need to group for advance at a decent pace, and the anime characters (I am not a fan of anime, but the gameplay in FFXI is good, so I soon forgot about that). The grpahics in FFXI are nice, the animations are well done, there is variety in all of the zones, and there are some great quests. I like the cut scenes, you don't often see that in a mmorpg. The player economy and crafting/tradeskills are nice, but it is alittle difficult unless you have tons of money, which is hard to come by unless you farm as a theif. Well, I can go on, but I'll stop here.
Good luck deciding about FFXI.
Try Shattered Galaxies. It's free with some constraints however the play is unlimited.

I was pretty impressed with FFXI at first, it was different than most other mmorpg's i've played since most were alot like EQ, but FFXI did things abit different. Particularly the mog houses, auction houses, and seamless dungeons or outdoor areas. It was a pretty game and i had alot of fun learning the world initially.
After about a month i got to the point where i was forced into grouping and finding groups was a big pain in the butt. I hate forced grouping more than anything and the higher lvls of FFXI pretty much make you do it to advance at a ok rate. What also turned me off was the stuck to mob combat, i cant stand that about most console rpg's, it just feels like i'm limited in my mobility and forced to melee everything. That to me was a major turnoff with the combat, even tho it had a neat feature in bonus damage/effects w/ coordinated attacks.
Anyhow, it took me a month to realize FFXI wasnt for me. I dont think its a bad game, in fact i'd rate it higher than alot of other mmorpg's currently out, but ultimately the fact that you were forced into grouping and the combat was forced melee pretty much really turned me off.
I liked the game except for a few things:
- No "real" PvP
- Too hard to find a party(which you need for everything)
I actually like the idea of forced grouping, but not to the extent that FFXI took it to. Trying to find a party of the perfect classes within a 2-3 level range was just too much, some classes will go a whole day without finding a party.
