This week I bought Vanguard and I expected to be better than average. So, you see, I didnt expect too much.
Well, that's what I thought. I was wrong. Vanguard is a very boring copy of WoW. I thought LOTRO was a boring copy of WoW but compared to Vangaurd LOTRO rocks. And I'm not a LOTRO. I played LOTRO in the CB, OB and Trial (after launch).
Vanguard aint bad but isnt good either. It is just another EQ/WoW-like copy with better graphics.
The problem is: why should I play VG, if there are better games? :P

when you win, there's delicious cake
(i've seen it)
==========================
Just out of interest did you try crafting and diplomacy? Did you get to do a dungeon in a group?
One of the things that keeps drawing me back to Vanguard is the diversity of things to do. If you get a bit tired of adventuring it's entirely plausible to immerse yourself in crafting for a week, doing quests and getting better crafting gear along the way for example.
The same goes for Diplomacy, I find that to be horribly addictive when I get going with it...
There are similarities with World of Warcraft I'll grant you that and if that game is to be used in comparison I'd say that Vanguard is WoW for adults.
Sorry you didn't like it, I think the game does have it's merits even though it's far from a perfect game.
*edit* In answer to your question: The problem is: why should I play VG, if there are better games? :P
You shouldn't, you should be playing the 'better game'... You really didn't have to ask this though, did you?
what the user above me said
I do wish you the best of luck on finding and playing that "better game".
Peace!!
I did all of it. I was in dungeons with friends, i did diplomacy (interesting concept) and crafting. But still, that is standard in 2008 :P
Now wheres my cake, mmmmm
i think someone is telling porkies
I wish you all the best on your crusade to find the perfect game for you, but if you did everything in Vanguard in one week and it's all "standard for 2008" then you're going to be finding a lot of sub-standard entertainment along your way.
Everyone need to stop comparing every freakin game to Wow .
what do you expect in a mmorpg =
1- combat
2- races/classes
3- crafting
4- pvp
5- raiding
6- loot
I tried/played beta many current and old rpg's and believe they ALL come to the same thing , different feel to them different skin , different package and different theme .
What can a mmorpg really do to stand out from the rest ?? , I havent found an answer yet and i dont think i ever will .
anyways . . . i really dont see any point to all this complaning and not only about VG or others games.
EQ copy, maybe. WoW copy ROFLMFAO. Dont think so son. Go back to The Smurfs Online and dont let the Heavy Oak door hit you on the way out.
This maybe the most ignorant post I have ever seen on MMORPG.COM.
S
Eve is the only game that comes close to VG and WOW pales in comparison. You cant even levitate in WOW ? how pathetic is that.
Go back to lotr because you know nothing.
Sorry to hear you did not enjoy Vanguard.
Hope you find the enjoyment you are seeking in your next game.
P.S. VG is best compared to EQ, it's more EQ than EQ 2. The only aspect similar to WoW is that they are both set in a high fantasy setting. I'm not sure that I should bring it up, but WoW is a copy of the daddy of 3d based MMO's EverQuest.
The fact is that VG and WoW have very different feeling and its not typical to like both. I personally like Vanguard just because the all freedom he gives me in oposite to WoW. In WoW I was boored till death and have canceled my sub just before start Black Temple and after gone to top10 in Arena. I think it will never happen with VG. Its just the question of personal taste.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

The problem is: you know nothing about pre-wow mmorpg. It is obviously that WoW brought you into this genre. How can vanguard be a copy of WoW I don't get it. WoW is ripoff of AC2 and partially EQ1. WoW was not FIRST solo focused quest driven game with easy gameplay, no xp death penalties and pvp battlegrounds with rankings.. It was all done in AC2. Lotro a WoW clone? You must be out of your mind. AC2 was a game released by Turbine and Lotro uses the same engine as AC2. Whatever lotro is, it's not WoW clone, but AC2 clone. In fact, lotro could be called Asheron's Call 3.
REALITY CHECK
I do not believe you actually played VG at all. It is simply not normal to say VG is a WoW copy. That is completely beyond me. People like this make me avoid these forums at all cost....I need a cigarette.
REALITY CHECK
Im from the 2002 era beginning with FF11 and DaoC. I played almost MMOs so far, even crap Asian grinders and 2D crap. I have a lot of experience in MMORPGs. I could play VG in one week cuz I wasn't all alone. As you all know, parties are more effective.
Im repeatin myself: VG isnt bad. Never said that VG was crap. I know my taste is different from yours.
The fact that I'm a Lineage2 veteran tells much about my taste and expectations.
Lineage 2 is the best game EVER!!
Why am I not playing L2 then? Cuz the L2 community sucks. It isn't the game'S fault that the community is crap there ^^
Best community EVER: FF11

But LOTRO is closer to WoW than VAnguard.
I'm sorry OP but I think you are incorrect.

Nearly every MMORPG shares the same basic concepts and gameplay mechanics, so it's inevitable that most will be similar. You can usually count the number of unique features in each MMO on one hand, so what it all comes down to is which game's setting you enjoy the most. I like Vanguard because it has a completely open world with non-instanced dungeons, and your adventuring progress is also open rather than consisting of a mostly linear series of quest hubs. I found that several of the game's classes offer pretty imaginative takes on the high fantasy class archetypes, as well--I've never played a game where a bard player was able to compose unique songs from a variety of learned components. To me, in the largely linear post-WoW MMO industry, Vanguard represents the latest true sandbox-style game.
In the long run, though, all MMOs grow tiresome, and I'll move on from this one, too.
If you don't like fantasy settings, then try a Shooter.
