Funcom would like to provide an update for the Age of Conan game.

Status of the launch

The Age of Conan game now has over 500.000 active players (players who have registered their purchased game key in the Company’s registration and billing system). The game has as expected performed very well on the sales charts in the launch week and has been on top of the sales charts in many major markets.

The retail box of Age of Conan is now reported as sold out or close to sold out in many shops and areas in several markets. Eidos, the retail-publishing partner for Age of Conan, is working to resupply the retail chains and will be shipping more product to retail in the coming weeks.

The Company may report if special milestones are reached as part of further building PR and marketing momentum for the Age of Conan game. Funcom will however, not report subscriber numbers on a regular basis, and will provide additional financial guidance before the Second Quarter 2008 reporting.

For further risk evaluation, please see previous communication from the Company.

The game is sold out in many shops! Then it must be a good game. I am going to buy two copies as an investment!

Just wait till the masses reach level 55+ and they find out there is no content. Maybe that's why Funcom will NOT report subscriber numbers on a regular basis?

Right.  The game will lose most of it's subscribers and then Funcom will have to close the servers down due to a badly designed MMO.  Shame on AoC for ever having been released!  It doesn't stand a chance against such duds as Vanguard, DDO, EVE, etc..

Yeah!  They are lying about the number of units sold!!  There is no way a game this buggy and have so many people not liking a lot of things about it be selling out in MOST stores...

Hype sells... I'm curious as to why they continue to toss around retail sells, but they "will not" keep us updated about subs..

Well, because 500,000 retail sales is pretty fucking impressive. This will most likely  land them in the top 5 PC game sales this year, and that = good. Whether it be hype or not, there have been plenty of other games that had a lot of hype but didn't deliver the retail sales expected. Also, Funcom is a publicly traded company with financial reports, so chances are you'll see some kind of sub numbers.... because, you know, investors like to see that kind of thing.

I think Funcom will announce subs in Quarterly statements, they are a public company

probably wont see a sub count until late July /August

    - when the Q2 2008 financial statement is released

Theres going to be alot of boxes available of course. They said 700 k were sent out and 500k playing, hence 200k left atm :) It will be interesting to see what they retain and growth or loss thereafter. I m sticking to my after WAR, Aion, TCOS, and WOWLK, are released it will hover around the 200-250k mark.

    /agree

The only other indication of subs would be brags about boxes sold. Again not really indicative of retention.

It will be interesting to follow this.

... Im sure the 25 people that post on this board and the 25 people you know on msn hardly represent the majority of game buyers out there. If that were the case then the WOW numbers would be a lie as well since most people I know hate it ;p

    20 copies left from what 21, 22, 25 or 85 boxes?

    That is what is interesting.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

How to make money from me (This is more about me than funcom):

    1. Hype the game to oblivion and back

    2. Put up a server, and just let it roll

    3. People will still pay.

    4. You hear from closed beta that people were shouting right until the end: Dont release this! (in its current state).

    5. Wait for next MMO.

  • good ole fake hype for a bad game after release. 400k copies sold the first day, and 100k more sold within the next week are not bad numbers, but the reason they won't report it is because they don't want to come out next month and say they have 300k subscribers (Even though that is a good number) it would still reflect very poorly that over 200k people canceled accounts after the first month.
