I am looking forward to this game and I hope its not gonna be a let down. The Current market does not have very many space games on the way. I never played the original jumpgate so I really dont know what to expect. I'm just hoping they do a good job. I really like Space type games.
I played Earth and Beyond and loved it. Will this be something like that?

Earth and Beyond was a point and click game. Like World of Warcraft, Everquest, etc. You had a toolbar for skills and you didn't really fly so much as 'move'. Jumpgate is a Space Combat Sim, like Freelancer, Wing Commander, Freespace, etc. You can get a 14 day free trial of the original Jumpgate at www.jossh.com. You can also read all about Jumpgate Evolution at www.jumpgateevolution.com. The stuff on this site barely scratches the surface.
E&B was certainly not a point and click game in sense of what people consider a point and click game such as it is in Eve. You did fly your ship and you could miss with your weapons systems or not be able to engage a target if you weren't oriented on it.
NetDevil has said that this will not be an Eve clone (Thank God) nor will it be an E&B one though I'm sure they will incorporate some similar elements from them. Do take a look at the JGE site and see for yourself what they are coming up with.
There definately is a deep hunger in players wanting an action space mmo. If not this then please game mfg's uderstand this is a huge untapped market. Basically we want a massive online Freespace/Freelancer. Seems so easy to understand why. I read the other long message and I get the Op's point. Jumpgate 1 to the world is nothing more then a test bed for them, but it needs to be mainstream and logical don't make it for 100 people, just look at the old great space sims that sold well and make it a mmo. This can and will be a huge moneymaker for someone when it's done right.
JE and Stargate Worlds are the only two space MMO's in development that look to be any good. And both look REALLY good. I'll play whichever one comes out first and then look to see how the second one looks before I buy it. Glad to see the genre is getting some respect.
It's somewhat like EnB. I played on the emulated version myself, and have a few friends who played retail. The gameplay is similar.
I'm positive that the jumpgate dev team know what they're doing, they have a couple of MMO's under their belt and have learned their lessons, also, they're very active in the community, reading and answering constructive posts. (Unlike Blizzard, who have become a bit to "big", so they ignore most of the feedback).
Judging by the many interviews and the recent Q and A IRC Chat, the NetDevil guys are pretty passionate about getting the fundamentals correct before they even enter beta.
