So after a guild Kara run earlier someone made a excellent point on vent... Is it worth going and getting epic gear now or wait until after Lich King comes out... Cuz from what i remember when BC came out a lot of the green items found in outland or even blue items found in ramparts were making the epics some of us worked hard and long to get look like vendor trash in some cases.. anybody have any thoughts about this also? Cuz I dont wanna have to put all this work into it.. Cuz sometimes a raid run can be pretty stressfull if someone does not know what they are doing sometimes.. lol..

Well better gear will always surface. It has to keep coming cause people need new intresteting instances to keep playing. Even if its in a major expansion or big patches from time to time.
I would say dont play for the epics. Play for the fun of the encounters and the chalange.
Forgot to say.. if it feels like work to you.. find another game.
Everything you do in WoW is worthless because it all becomes obsolete at the next expansion. Just quit now and save yourself the annoyance.
All right, while i agree with namelessbob, (congratz on starting FF btw) i would have to say that no the items will not become worthless. So what if they are not as good as the items that are coming out with the next expansion, they will still do their jobs. Say you have a sword (a) and they come out with a better sword, think about it, if you take the older sword (a) and go to fight something, i am pretty sure it will still die.
Replacing epics with greens etc is a gross exaggration.. I hit TBC with T2 gear I did not replace the majority of my gear untill lvl 65+ when I started collecting the dungeon set (t2.5). I did replace my rings, tricket earlier on and then my weapons but my gear held strong till lvl 65+.
the same will happen with WotLK.. I am I fine with that, how boring could it be to wear the same armour over and over and over again.
I would like a feature where your armour gets a little more powerful the more you use it, like leveling up your gear.. use your gear for x amount of time and it DINGS! a lvl and gives a few stat points you can add to the gear.. that would be a nice feature.
I would rather hit wotlk in the best gear I can get rather than sit in shatt in my greens waiting for the expansion.
Actually that is not a bad idea... Gear that "levels" even when you are at the capped player level..
Actually in final fantasy there are a couple weapons that you have to do a certain amount of weapon skills in order to unlock a latent effect, which is really nice. Like destroyers start out crappy but once you unlock their latent effect they are pretty neat.
There are items in FFXI, like Kirin's Osode that will always be decent. I remember I got that thing like 3 years ago and have long since stopped playing. However, if I were to log in today I could still wear it and people woudl think, "oh cool hes got on decent armor." That is how FFXI was set up. WoW on the other hand was set up to constantly make you work for something better. That, my friends is known as the "Blizzard Grind"
Well with that point of view don't run dungeons in WoTLK either because gear from it will be worthless in next expansion , imo raids are all about teamwork/cooperation and fun ofcourse , gear is in last place on my list.
Gear is gear. If you like the game and like raiding, go for it. Sure the gear will become outdated at some point in the future, but as long as your having fun getting it, i wouldnt worry too much. If your not big on raiding, then don't bother.
What I never understood is why can't they make your epic gear upgradeable? Like having to have T1 gear + drops from newer dungeons to make T2 and so fourth. It would help keep the older raid dungeons viable and not make it feel like a complete waste when your newly earned gear is suddenly deemed outdated the second an expansion comes out.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
This isn't anything unique to WoW. EQ's the same way. After reactivating my account for the new free trial, I found that my gear that I had worked pretty hard for is pretty much trash now including my epic 1.0 weapons.
But I think of it like this, all the gear that you got was intetending for levels under 60 pre-BC, all the outlands gear is for levels 60+ so it makes sense that some it would be better just as I"m sure gear thats for levels 70+ will be better then outlands gear.
So I guess you have no plans to move past Kara either then, correct? Because if you move past Kara, all the gear you got in Kara will be waisted.
The gear you are getting now will definitely not be used in WOTLK at level 80, but it will help you level and it will allow you to see some of the content of TBC. You still have some months ahead of you before WOTLK is released so I'd try to see as much of TBC as possible.
There are legendary items in WoW that pretty much don't ever become obsolete.
Blizzard games are about grinding gear as seen in WoW and Diablo, as soon as an expansion/change comes out, your 6 months to a year effort to get the best gear is erased overnight. As proven with TBC and as proven to the people who wasted months of their lives getting to High Warlord. I can sit at home for 6 months not playing WoW, but as soon as WotLK comes out, I will have better gear then you having to sit through raid after raid, badge run after badge run, daily after daily.....enjoy. Ooo season 4 of arena! I get to play the same game over and over for slightly better gear: can't wait.
The cartoon style used to increase performance in Warcraft III and WoW was a great idea and Blizzard games always have a well designed UI and tutorial.
As told before, this grinding gear system dates from Diablo Series.
It was discussed in WoW development and beta. Many feedbacks from players claim it was old and would have bad influence over pvp and pve experience.
Some features work well in single player games but can become a disaster in multiplayer. I dont know a better example.
I believe Blizzard has already stated that the gear jump won't be nearly as big in WoTLK as it was when TBC came out.
So if you have decent level 70 epics, I'd expect them to last a good way
As for what you should do - do what you find fun and do it well!
If you like 5 mans then have fun doing heroics, if you like raiding then raid, and if you like PvP then go for battlegrounds / arena. Just have fun now, and let the expansion take care of itself.

They have stated somewhere that epics will not be replaced as quickly in WotLK as they were im TBC.

How long have you worked for Blizzard? Because you seem to have a few facts mixed up.
First off, I believe the graphics style originated with Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994 and I don't think it had anything to do with increasing performance, that's simply how the game was designed to look then.
WoW does not have a Tutorial, it does however have help text which is not the same thing. In fact I don't think any of Blizzard's games have had a tutorial. All of them you simply start playing and are given additional information about how to play as you progress.
Diablo was a multiplayer game that did exceptionally well in fact I'd go so far as to say it was one of the first major block buster multiplayer games. Certainly one of the more successful co-operative multiplayer games ever released. I'm sure that had something to do with the decision to do something similar with WoW, unquestionably the most successful MMORPG so far.

Ok... Lets talk about it.

I follow this game since the development and after its release. You should know this if you have done it too. This was said in a development FAQ/interview cause the requeriments target was far less powerful the today's standards and there is nothing wrong with it. In fact was a great decision and WoW got a better performance and was able to run in more systems. In the developers words.

Yes. It has and it's a shame to see someone who claim to know the game so well say such a thing.

Yes. As EQ was and UO before it. Can you explain to me how market statistics turn the gear grinding system less boring? I really miss your point of view here.
Your gear will be obsolete as soon as the expansion comes out. Just keep running Blizzard's treadmill and pretend its a good game.
Darkfall Travelogues!
You can always keep wearing your Kara gear. I don't think the new expansion will make wearing new gear mandatory...that is unless this game is a job like it seems to be for many that "play".
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Same thing was told before TBC release. It's become truth?
Even though I quit WoW over a year ago, I would like to disagree with the guys who say that gear is still useful. Like the one guy above me who posted about his BWL gear, I had the same stuff (T2). Except for rings and such I ditched most of my gear almost immediately. Yeah the greens weren't quite as good, but the repair costs were a fraction of the cost. So it was worth just going green. I don't worry about gear until I hit max level. Trying to get gear at lvl 65 is just a waste of time IMO. You can level faster out in the world.
Of course that's just one man's opinion. And I don't play WoW anymore so it doesn't really matter. I just stopped in to see if the game still existed.
This is correct. Better gear will always come.
The sad reality of WoW is that you'll spend a few hours getting new gear from 60-62, 62-64 etc., but you'll spend months getting gear at level 70 that will be replaced in a 15 minute quest in WoTLK.
Gear grind ruined this game.
