No news on OF server

Dunno, but it just does not seem like a good marketing idea, I think they chose a really bad time to announce the new server with the release of AoC and all, I think they just got overshadowed. Maybe thats why they're waiting, for AoC hype to fade a bit before announcing new info. Any ideas?

Honestly, as much as I love DAoC, I do not think it is going to make a difference when they announce a new server.

To be even more honest, I wouldn't make the new server at all.

By the time AoC hype fades, which it is doing at an alarming rate due to it's crappyness. WoW : WotLK and WAR both release.

This will once again overshadow anything DAoC has in the works.

I unsubbed from DAoC last night.

As did my entire guild and moved to Warcraft.

We just started a new guild on one of WoW's pvp servers.

People's last hope for an excellent RvR experience now lies in the hands of mythic with WAR, as DAoC is on the verge of deactivation. I know EA and I know how EA works. DAoC will have 1 of 2 fates.

    1. Pull the plug and never be seen again, as EA did with Earth and Beyond and other games.

    2. Put it on a multipass deal with a WAR subscription. This will solely depend on the cost to upkeep DAoC server vs the cost of upkeep on WAR servers.

    I guess we will see.

I just wouldn't expect DAoC to be around much longer.....

That's the problem with PvP focused games. They live or die by their population. DAoC, while a great game, just seems to have to few people playing now. They should have simply merged servers and expanded the housing area when they had the chance instead waiting so long to create the classic servers, clustering, etc.

It would be nice if EA created a multi-game pass ala Sony's Station Access pass. Warhammer Online, Dark Age of Camelot, and Ultima Online. All three already have Herald pages done for them since EA Mythic seems now to be handling all of them now (found out UO had it's own herald page by accident since I don't really pay attention to the game much).

Yeah I have to agree with you on everything, except for the AoC part, I love AoC!! hehe =D I put some fault on mythic for here....DAoC used to be in the run for one of the top mmorpgs, I remember seeing somewhere ( this was about 4 years ago ) That they would not make a DAoC 2..but rather improve upon the current game. As much as I hate SoE at least they continued the EQ series. Granted EQ1 had more subs then DAoC did. I just dont see why they let it die. I understand that now there focusing all there resources on WAR, But what the hell were they doing back then?

I have to say Mythic appears to always (eventually) have the players intrest in mind.  Not a single person who has played DAoC would say a multigame sub. with WAR would be a bad idea.  TBH I doubt I'll even try WAR unless they do offer this type of package.  I am not playing DAoC at the moment, but like a lot of vets I know and have talked to, I will come back if this OF server rolls out.

Side not on sub. numbers.  I doubt there is much Mythic can do at this point to really boost these numbers given the timeframe that has already been mentioned.  To many fanboy players who refuse to admit there were great games before WoW as well as the release of upcoming titles.  If this new "old" server can support itself.as well as the game overall... along with the diehard player base... this game will limp along for a while.

I take back all the positive things I have said about this server.  It looks as tho EA/Mythic is going to toy with this great idea until it is a busted pile of crap... like the "normal" servers are now.

Hmm it seems they are using a bit of what they are doing in Warhammer Online in regards to the changes of RvR, at least for the lower levels with the additions of lower level objectives that can be taken over. Not sure how I feel about the removal of the battlegrounds though. I'm glad they are going to focus more on the open world RvR (which is what they are doing in Warhammer Online. Perhaps certain areas of the Frontiers will be focused on the lower level RvR the way the RvR areas in WAR are sectioned off in the various tiered areas.

The removal of the Albion class should be interesting as well. Thurs were fun to play but disliked them in RvR since they could spam their pets. Having to deal with long range damage is annoying enough but these things chase you and then die making any damage you do to them meaningless putting you at an unfair disadvantage compared with fighting other classes. The Animist pets are different as they are more turrets then anything else. They are stationary.

Well, assuming that with the lack of TOA Boni (% damage), interrupt will become more important again for albs (Thinking of the normal 2 merc theu sorc cler cleric pala minstrel setup), I dont think that removing the Theurg is a smart move. Otherwise most of the cc and interrupt would be on one char (sorc), which means that that player can just as well go afk against good groups ;)

People always bitch and moan about the other realms, but in reality the balance was actually quite ok.

But anyhow, I think Mythic is overdoing it with this server. All the ( or rather: some) players wanted was an old-school server without all the new bells and whistles. Having to go to DF or the epic zones again to thet good gear, no %-boni on damage etc. But instead of going back to the roots, they implement a completely new set of rules. I dont think that's going to work out.

100% agree here, It doesn't really look like a real "classic" server.

Figures... I was considering coming back to DAOC to play on this new Origins server as a.... you guessed it, Theurigist, as it seemed like a great class and I never got a chance to play it back in the day.

Sigh, this announcement pretty much knocked the wind out of my sails and I'm a whole lot less interested in giving it a go.  Guess I'll stick with EVE, AOC and eventually WAR.

I agree. This is not the original game. They need to bring back all original RA's and skills. This is going to be completely different from OF. They shouldn't waste their time, doing it all wrong.

  • Dan256Dan256 Member Posts: 26
I"m ok with the changes they're making to the original game, I guess. I"ll give this a try at any rate. What I really want is a fresh start. MMO servers get stale after a few years, and newer players are at a severe disadvantage. I liked the geography of the old frontiers better than new frontiers, and that remains intact. The changes, I hope are improvements over the original game. As I recall, the original game was quite imbalanced.I don't suppose Mythic can do much about the balance issues, they're simply not bright enough, but they probably won't make things too much worse with this try. I get the impression some people want it exactly like the old game simply because they want to go back to using their old exploits.
  • CotswoldCotswold Member Posts: 70

Well, the Old Frontiers will not be coming back intact.  Straight from the herald:

"...this server will also provide capturable camps, small towers, and outposts..."

"We are also considering adding a village or two to each Realm’s RvR region"

    "Modified monster camps..."

Origins my ass.  Also including the races from expansions but not the expansion areas like SI sure will;  "...return DAoC to the great game experience it was in 2001/2002."

Why they tried to sell this as anything other than a "New RvR" server is insane.    Removing nearly all PvE aspects of the game and making every change to cater to RvR built around an extremely modified dated version of the game and calling it "DAoC: Origins" makes no sense and is very misleading.

Side note about wanting to "...go back to using their old exploits", if that were the case these pathetic gimps could go back to the freeshard circle-jerks they came from.

Aww man After reading those posts I've lost all hope of ever getting a true 'classic' server, I would've returned in an instant.

I just can't get the mentality of them sitting there saying...

Designer A: 'Hey guys, lets give the players what they truely want... a return to the original game!''

Designer B: ''Yeah, awesome! Everyone will come back and love us... and whilst we're at it, why don't we totally rewrite the game!''

I agree 100% with the above post.  Well said!

I don't know, it sounds like a good mix to me so far.  The "old" DAOC wasn't perfect and could definately benefit from some of the fixes and new ideas.  For the most part though, it sounds like the "core" of the original game will be there.

I would, however,  like to hear more about the removal of the BG's and the addition of the whole lowbies in the frontier thing.  Also, leveling speed and the gear grind are two deal breaker type of areas that I'm really interested in hearing more on.

Thats what I've heard.  Faster leveling, no gear grind, sounds pretty damn good to me.  Get everyone into RvR as fast as possible.  Will just have to wait an see how soome of their other ideas turn out...
