Hello, I have tried WoW numerous times and had to quit for many reasons e vertyime I got a character to 20, but last time was because the campus said WoW uses P2P filesharing and I cant have that. So I was wondering if there is a way to turn that off, what it is, or maybe it was the quest helper thing that I had as an addon (name eludes me atm) but thanks for your help!

WoW does not use P2P file sharing. You probably have a file sharing program running or they are full of it and just don't want you using the bandwidth although I don't believe WoW requires much bandwidth. My son plays it on campus all the time and they haven't said anything to him about it.
There is no P2P programs in the Warcraft client. I also doubt there is any in the quest helper addon you have. If you really want to play you should bring it up somehow to get that changed.
maybe it is the way the updater is since that was the reason it listed, but i was just curious and tons of people on campus play its just i havent figured it out and they forget what they changed about it lol, i think its the updater but any suggestions?
Yes the updater uses a private version of bit torrent. So most likely that is what you school is seeing. Because it does use the same ports as any other torrent program.
Eve-Online
Most universities are banning use of Bit Torrent (which is what WoW uses for their patcher) so that is most likely the reason. Bit Torrent is something they consider Peer to peer, even though it isnt really....
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
You can always turn off p2p file sharing in the updater options. Then download the wow patches from various websites on the internet.
The blizzard downloader uses a P2P file sharing program. This is probably what your school was referring to. The blizzard background downloader uses the same system, you're going to have to turn that off (by doing so in the splash screen that pops up when you start WoW, just click on the options). Then when patches come out, you're going to have to find an alternative download for them. IE Fileplanet or filefront, and hope people upload them onto there. I'm sure there's many more sites, and you could maybe ask other people at your campus how they manage getting patches on patch day.
Besides the blizzard downloader though, WoW doesn't use a P2P system, and it shouldn't be restricted by your school. You can completely avoid using the blizzard downloader if you really wanted to. You should explain this to them.
ok thanks! so the bittorrent is it then and that is what is banned as a p2p thing, so just to make sure as well it is no way probably the addon for quest locations? (name eludes me atm)
