image The article states the Open Beta has started, but when I go to any of the sites for the download that Ryzom website lists (Fileplanet, Gigex, BitTorrent, etc.) the game file is not available (hell, it's not even listed)!

Don't advertise that Open Beta has started if there is no files to download to get into the game!

On another matter, am I the only one scared that they are starting Open Beta only 16 days before Europe launches; 20 days before North America?  Even the most mediocre MMOs are in Open Beta for 2-3 months before launch (although Matrix Online looks to be bunking that golden rule too).  My confidence in the success of this MMO is severely lowered by only having 16 days of Open Beta.  That's not even enough time to fix any problems found and patch them properly.

    Thoughts?

The download is not listed?  Not sure what sites you are looking at but if you go to GameDaily, its listed right on the opening page.  And also under the free download section right up top.  Does not get easier then that.  Also as a previous poster stated, Ryzom has been beta tested for quite a while.  This is probably just a test to see if the players liked all the new additions and fixes that they added based off of the previous feedback given.

Wasn't there this morning when I originally checked.  Went to Gigex to download, and all the servers are full. Probably because you can't download the file from the other sites listed (rechecked Gamespot and Fileplanet).

Finally the file has been posted (and easily downloadable) from Fileplanet.

Next time, Nevrax should make sure all their download partners have deployed the file before notifying the press/community.

Sorry, it's Monday, and I haven't had enough coffee.  image

Anyways, this is a pretty good game, and inherently stable. There are a lot of options with regards to creating your character. For instance, you can have a fighter/mage, but it'll take you twice as long to really level that character up as say a plain mage. On the other hand, each of the different skillsets allow you to offset each other. For instance you can buy intelligence to upgrade your mage skills/power, but you can buy constitution in the fighter skillset to get more hitpoints (so you don't waste valuable mage points buying constitution in the mage skillset). Crafting seems to work well and I'm really starting to like the idea of prospecting (e.g. getting different materials from different land locations).

Nevrax seems to have their ideas put together really well. Considering they plan to have a new world/skillset system released within 6 months to a year, I can see they've got their butts in gear. Note: this game is set in a fantasy universe, but Nevrax has made it clear that it's actually a science fiction universe and that there will potentially be space travel between worlds. The next world may involve a sci fi atmosphere with skills which work with and augment your skills from the original world. >>Drools<< image image

Stability is good (I think I said that already). At least for northwestern North America. Anyways give it a shot while you still can (It releases mid to late September so beta isn't going to last much longer).

One thing I will say is that the questing system for WoW and EQII sound a lot better (there's not too many involved quests in SoR) but those games haven't been released yet, so you know, give this one a shot in the meanwhile.

Also (I keep adding comments lol), the animations in this game are awesome. The first time a creature comes up and looks at you and animates trying to communicate with you is creepy. Often they'll lift their legs and pee on you (lol I'm serious), hunt each other, forage for food, try to hide, wash themselves etc. It's really a beautiful thing to watch. This game has excellent animation/graphics and a lot of work has gone into making it feel "alive" as opposed to run down a hall, camp for 48 hours and maybe get something you can E-bay.

Anyways good luck. If it makes any difference, I'm playing this game rather than WoW which I've been waiting AGES to try. (Honestly I shy away from stress tests)

    Zon.
