Open Beta Player

I first started FoM with the FDC. Moved over to the MotB shortly afterwards.

If I could've justified paying $15 a month when this game went out of beta, I would've. Some of my best gaming memories lie here.

The only time this game ever got boring for me was when we had to sit around for hours defending somewhere, and NOTHING HAPPENED! The game really needed something "more" to do other than just sit around like this. I much preferred contracts where we were asked to attack a planet or location, rather than defend -- epic battles always ensued.

I never really liked the armor system.. I just kind of.. collected armor in my apartment. Vibrating stacks of armor (and ammo) -- hilarious to watch.

The last things I remember being implemented were aliens (woo, vulnerable to FMJ rounds, and all that).. and some planet getting revamped. A couple planets, actually. The planet revamp thing kind of made me sad.. I preferred the older versions, even though the new ones were prettier -- the old ones just "played" better.

Anyways.. I can't really think straight.. it's 2:38AM here, and for some reason I'm really missing this game.

If FoM ever comes back, you'll probably see me as Max Lothrik of the MotB. If it doesn't.. well, R.I.P., Face of Mankind. You'll always be a great game in my memories..

 Edit:

I just kind of noticed I never really gave a reason WHY I liked FoM. This was, or rather, IS, the only game I've ever played that doesn't need to immerse you; You do that yourself -- and that was powerful to say the least. This game gave you a true sense of adventure, without imposing it on you.

Sad thing when a MMORPG comes down.

I hope this game cames back again better than it was.

yup, FOM was the best game i ever played,

    FOM:R should be great too....

I think the players who were with FOM to the end should have first access of beta.  Its only fair that the loyal get the first try.

The loyal people of fom are fucking retards.  The end of retail was horrible.  It was basically Face of Mercenaries.  Just to show you how bad it was, I always.. ALWAYS tried to stay away from mercs because they were so annoying.  By the end of retail, everywhere I went there was a merc.

Face of Mankind: Rebirth is a new game.  They're trying to attract generic grinding MMO fan boys so they can actually make some money.

Putting the old community in the beta would be a hindrance.  They need un-biased players that will test the game without saying "Go back to OB FoM!"

Well, it was the guys playing FOM helping them i paid suscriptions and i would have paid more to keep it alive. The loyal guys might be biased but we were the only guys who wanted to fund there project. Plus mercs woopty do, No one else has a problem us LED could handle the mercs.

Did you just say that LED could handle the mercs?  lol

The main reason I hated Face of Mercenaries was because I was a BoS and I liked having conflict with the LED.  MotB would always kill them everywhere leaving me with my thumb in my ass and 30 biph in my inventory.

FoM could easily make a profit, if the devs wanted to.

Roll the game back to how it was in early beta - completely player run.  No turrets, no "bases".  Cut down on the number of worlds so theres less ghost worlds and then have free accounts and pay accounts (maybe $5 a month, since they have to realise it will never be a premium MMO like WoW and many people paying a little is better than a few paying a lot.).

Free accounts would see RL ads on those numerous posters around the worlds,  be limited to QL2 items, and rank 2 in any faction. Pay accounts have no restrictions.

Free accounts suck people in, eventually they upgrade to pay account to be properly competitive.  Money made, everyone happy.

Orrrr, you could spend 2 years continually adding useless new mechanics to the game with no clear direction until eventually realising you need some cash, then hurredly decide you're going pay to play even though the game is completely different to what it was when it was actually popular.

It would be nice to think the "new" FoM they're making will be fun, but from what i've read they have still lost the original concept that everyone liked and are aiming for some mass market generic thing involving bases and objectives.   Planetside does that already.  Better.  If they stuck to freeform futuristic RP - which is what FoM was at the start of open beta, they'd actually be filling a demand in the market and make some money.

...*sigh* OB constantly lost people, both pre and most ms1, to say roll back and everything will be fine, is to be frank, stupid...

I played open beta and i have to say it. The game makers did so many interfaces that you could have made 3 diffrent programs out of it.  Might have made it  if they struck with 1 UI and fixed the other bugs but they did not.  Game makers you worked hard and i had fun thank you
