just like the title says? If you claim to enjoy this game, my question is ....HOW? What do you do in it that you find enjoyable? crafting is broken, pvp is pointless, sieges aren't working, guild cities arent working, horses arent working, stats arent working, dungeons are terribad.....
What is it that you enjoy?
My theory is that the people who claim to like it are basically taking funcom at their word that this game is gonne be fun...in the future, ..when its close to done.
personally, I just recovered 30 gigs of hard drive space that can be better used storing midget pron.
Comments
Well, in all fairness, currently I only have characters that are 23/14/11 respectively, so I haven't really run into any of the problems you listed.
Crafting is a meh... I hate all crafting, so don't really care if they ever fix it.
PVP, could be better, but my son and I enjoy getting in a good fight and really enjoy it when some higher level (5+) tries to gank us and fails in the attempt. (Killed a few level 27's the other day, don't mess with the Bear Shaman/TOS combo)
Sieges not working, disappointing, but since it looks like it will be several months until I get to that point, I guess I can wait.
Guild cities not working? Not really into that yet. Seen a few guilds advertising their primary focus is raising a guild city and decided not to pursue them, as I've not decided yet what a guild city might do to enhance my playing experience at this point in the game. (probably more of an end game thing to fight for)
Now, hearing horses aren't working is disappointing, was looking forward to riding one. But then yours is the first post I've really heard that on, so not sure if I've got the whole story.
Stats aren't working, I'm not a stat freak, and I normally just wear what ever looks better and have at it.
Dungeons are terrible - wouldn't know yet.
So once again, maybe in a month or two I'll be gnashing my teeth with you, or maybe they'll fix some issues before I get there. Will let you know.

WOOT! another flame thread!
Believe it or not, some of the people playing are having a blast. Others are trying to like it, but won't ever.
Some enjoy it, though still troll forums so that they don't feel stupid and admit they were wrong about the game. Finally, some don't like it and will continue hating it forever.
That is all!
I really like AOC and am having fun when i play it, I recently went back to eq2 because Ive always wanted to try it for more then a 7 day pass. As far as AOC goes, I am not playing it on Funcoms word that it will be better, because it is already a fun game. As far as guild cities and horses and crafting not working, that is purely opinion. Some guilds do have cities fyi, depending on the server, at least they advertised it in game. I have seen people riding around on horses too, so I know they work. Maybe its a specific type of horse? Or maybe your just trolling about the game again. I would like all OP that state there is something wrong with the game to show some screen shots or even what level their character is. Because too many people are posting problems that I have never come accross. That is all.
I'm really not flaming. I HONESTLY want to know what it is that those who enjoy this game are enjoying? I am not being facetious. I waited for this game for 2 years and uninstalled it 20 minutes ago after playing for 2 weeks. There is so much ...so very much wrong with this game.
I guess i was hoping for a perspective I had missed. Some enjoyment factor i somehow overl;ooked.
To the guy about the horses, they are bugged. A horse runs slightly slower than a person sprinting on foot.
*edit* to the poster above me, yes cities are in, but the buildings dont give the buffs they are supposed to, tradeposts dont have the npcs they are supposed to, and you cant progress past tier 2.(you need tier 3 for a keep, and no buffs = why bother?)
I already explained horses, yes they work, but speed is bugged making them pointless.
My main is level 47 (severity, ToS on bluesteel) and i have a few lvl 20 ish alts.
You claim the game is fun, I am asking SPECIFICALLY, what it is that you find fun.....anyone?????
Didn't say you were flaming, I said "Another flaming thread".
This thread has a big chance of turning into one.
That, quite literally, is all.
Am I alone, or is the part in yellow not the MOST annoying thing in the WORLD. The fact that electric post it at the bottom of all his post like a sig even adds to this.
Like what he just said above That, quite literally, is all. Is somehow dogmatic law. Written by god and handed down to man like the bible.
Electric is one of those type of people that if I met them in real life and they knocked on my door, I would just slam it in their face because I already know they will annoy me.
And no Electric i'm not calling you any bad names or anything, I just would peg you for a REALLY ANNOYING person in real life that is all.
First, while horses (lower level I'm assuming) might be slight slower than characters who sprint, characters can't sprint indefinitely, while a horse might be able to maintain a steady pace and in the long run would be faster. (and not burn end)
But to your question.
As I mentioned - When my son and I win a tough PVP fight, we really enjoy it.
As to what else.... the combat styles are fun and I'm still working on getting good at them. (I'm old and slow).
I enjoy exploring the new world that I'm in
The quests are good, but my son doesn't let me read them all. When playing my solo alts I take time to enjoy the story more.
I'm did hate the 20 level Tutorial area.
Not much else to say yet, just not far enough in game yet.

Haha I guess you don't have humor then. This "That, quite literally, is all" is supposed to make you laugh.
You can laugh now! go on.
EDIT: Another thing... some people!
Before I say whether or not i liked it in the beginning, yesterday, today, or just hope i will like it in the future, you should understand how I base my funtime on an MMO.
Community, community, community. If theres people to talk to, or people talking that I can listen to, no matter how boring the game is, or how bored I am at the current moment, I can listen to people talk, and talk to other people, for a good hour or two, just standing around in the game not doing anything.
Having said that, I was having trouble finding people to join my guild aswell as the fact that I chose to solo most of my quests and avoid group places. These things definately made the game not fun for me, however the features in the game *whether working properly or not* most definately kept me looking ahead and reminded me on a daily basis that this game is going to be a smash hit. So, now that I managed to get a few people in my guild, I literally am having fun. I managed to start a community (like i do with every, single, online game, mmo or fps) and now I am having tons of fun.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
b/c it's fun... not sure if you got that one, like fun I enjoy spending time playing. Kind of like how you like to watch "midget pron", just millions of normal people share my interest.. dunno how many people like your stuff but have fun.
I really like it... playing the barbarian... probably become the most overplayed class but i feel it gets the best out of the extremely fun combat system...im only lvl 24 so havent encountered any problems so far except a quest mob being stuck... i took advantage of the 'instancing' which for so many kills the game and found the mob working fine. As for the instancing i feel it suits the game world as the hilly valley type areas are always crowded despite the instancing...
I like big open worlds myself but wont spit the dummy cause the game takes a new approach (a step backwards in some eyes which is fair enough). Let different be what it is... Always hearing WoW copy floated around after every release now we get the theme of "well in WoW its got..."
Its got that newly released thing i found with early Lotro where things aint quite right just yet but i will admit im happy to play a not quite finished game cause in Beta things never quite seem to get fixed as urgently as in a released game...
As for stats well if they aint working for me then they aint working for the guy next to me so... i dont lose sleep over that... and it seems stats on items seem less important in this game... what is 1 in a lvl 10 is a 7-8 in a level 70-80... in wow im sure it was like 2 str at lv10 and like 80 plus...
Even if the horse is a little slower then a person running in game, that doesnt mean the horse is broken, because the horse is traveling at normal speed. Where as the person has to expend their stamina bar to keep up that speed. Besides the players can increase their run speed using skills as well, Im sure mount speed also becomes an option later.
And the flames begin. . hahah how prophetic.
What I find fun is the dynamic nature of combat, adult themes, the environments, and the story lines. The PVP is open which has good and bad elements, Being a Shadowbane vet open pvp does not bug me.
So what I dont get in all these flames:
This game had a solid release. Don't thinks so? Are you forgetting about severs being down for days at release in other games, huge ques to play, missing lower level content, huge lag spikes . . etc. While not the release was not as clean as lotro it was much better than most games. They fleshed out the first 30-40 levels (60-80 hours of game play) and were going to go back in and flesh out the last 40. This is fairly standard. Often the first 3-4 patches in a game is adding funcionallity and late level content. Seems like funcom had to push this game out ahead of scheadul, and in doing so had to pick where they fleshed out, I think it was a wise choice to make the begining areas complete, and then focusing their development team on the later content. Instead of jumping in a fresh MMO and crying wolf wait next time buy it 3 month out and you will see a polished game. This is the MMO market if you have been involve with mmos at release you know this. I alway tell myself to wait but don't. . weirldly enough I dont blame the game. Sides I have alot less to gripe about (read nothing) in this game than WoW, EQ2, Vanguard, horizons, SB, Starwars at realease.
So take it in stride, stop complaining; "hey I got to the later levels in less than 2 weeks". . . . maybe sit back and read the stories these people have writen for you, enjoy the content you tend to skip pass and by the time the you get to the later levels, the development team will have caught up with you. . . they most likely only put in 40-60 hours a week into conan . . unlike some people.
where is the positive contribution to this thread in this response?
I am trying to like this game currently, but I can't get into it. I understand why some people enjoy it. I just don't like the game, what can I say. There are awesome things about it and graphically it is sick, bu alas I am just not having fun. So unfortunately, I will be leaving after the first month is up. I hope you all enjoy this game more then I do, it is better for the market that way.

I personally enjoy the game very much. It's appealing to me in a lot of ways. I am taking my time leveling, so when I get the higher levels, i wont be bugged at all. And yes, I know it will get better, but I am enjoying the time I am playing right now, and i'll let the bugs come when they come.
First off, every human being is an individual, everyone has likes and dislikes. I happen to really like this game, and it shows a lot of potential. I don't understand why people have a hard time with the fact people will like and play games that they or others despise.
Second, why do people take it as a personal attack if they don't like your game, and why do people make it a personal mission in life to tell the world that they hate the game? It's a rhetorical queston..
Third, bottom line is you people that hate the game, congratulations.. you people that like it, drive on, and shrug off the negative comments. If the Devs fix what's broken, the game will sell itself.
i don't really see the point of explaining why I like a game that you don't like because you just wouldn't get it. You have your opinions i have mine what more needs to be said?
I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm looking foward to different aspects in the future as well, which I think will vastly improve the amount of fun I'm having now.
What do I like?
Leveling has been alot more fun in this game than many games I've seen in the past. it isn't too fast, it isnt' too slow and you have options on how you are going to get there. You can group quest, group grind, solo quest and solo grind. This makes the game alot more fun because it can fit around the playstyle I'm feeling at the time.
My last game (EQ2) had basically turned into a solo quest grind which after awhile got really boring, but who would want to grind in some dungeon when you can get more xp per hour doing quests, thus getting groups to just grind in a dungeon were out of the question and heaven forbid if you got into a group and did the quests in the wrong order... You'd wind up with huge faction issues.
PvP. Now, I'm not a hardcore PvPer and most in my guild consider me a carebear, but I'm having fun with this PvP system (I'm on Cimmeria), a couple levels do not much of a difference make and if you aren't careful, someone many levels (and grey to you) can kick you from one end of the zone to the other. This adds to the feeling of fun in the system.
Player Cities, while they are not completely in place yet, it was a beautiful site watching our guilds keep go up the other night and 1/2 of the guild buried in concrete in the process We made a guild event out of it and it was worth the time to watch it. Because it gives you a visual representation of your success as a guild and your ability to work together. Why did it take us this long you might ask? There was a bug that on PvP servers the PvE keep could be destroyed, we decided to hold off until this bug was fixed.
In world feeling... I went into Sanctum for the first time last weekend (was apprenticed up to go and play OT for them) and at one point, I looked over and in vent was like... "Is that blood???" as I watched this red fluid like substance just pour over the wall into a pool below. Very frightening to thing about how many things had to of been killed to generate THAT much blood (it wasn't a small pool, you could of likely held olympic swiming matches in it!)
My friends, this is the first game in about 3 years that has pulled together the near full mass of my friends from shadowbane, that is a very, VERY big pull for me, it is a great feelign to be fighting along side these people again.
I could go on and on, but I have things to do, so I'll leave the rest to yoru imagination
where is the positive contribution to this thread in this response?
There ya go. The rest is just commenting on the need to review/flame a just released mmo based on late game content. Which is what this thread is esensailly about.
People like this game, get over it. If you don't there are many many others to choice from or you can look toward the future, to the holy grail of mmos (fill in your dream mmo here). . . . which will never be released being stuck in a constant development cycle. sorry this game is not for you, I hope that you find one that fits you, or come back around in a month or two and see if this one matches your expectations.
It has it's ups and downs. It's not really all that addicting for me, but when I sign on I usually end up playing for hours.
I enjoy it.

I think the people that are saying they "enjoy" the game, are actually feeling pity towards funcom for releasing such a piece of crap.

I played in open beta, the game didn't impress me then. The more I read up on it, the more I don't think I would purchase it. However, if I did decide to, the siege warfare was really the primary reason I would. I mean this IS what they constanty pushed as being the most super, "awesomest", thing that was ever going to hit the market.
My question is...is this feature of the game really not implemented yet? I mean besides the open world PVP, which most of the time is a "I gank you, then you gank me" type of fighting, are the small, instanced PVP maps (like we had in OB) the only place you get any type of organized PVP?
No sieges with catapults, walls, and castles yet?
theoretically, I suppose it isn't actually not in. The thing is, you have to have a tier 3 guild city. You currently can't progress past tier 2. So, essentially, no. Not in yet.
After dealing with Sigil last year, there isn't an MMO developer out there I'd pay to play their game for off their word alone.
That said, I love Age of Conan as it is now, and not for what it has "potential" to be or what I hope for it to one day to be.
It's fun, accessible enough in specs most my friends can and do play, and I'm for the first time since WoW seeing a lot of folks from old guilds and servers come over from other games. Can't ask for much more.
That said, about the only thing I am holding Funcom to their word on is the June PvE updates, and only because they provided a specific date of this month rather than the usual "when its done". So things like PvP revamps, every thing else they've mentioned as coming sometime during the summer, I don't factor at all into reasons as to why I love the game.
