AOC Review

I picked up AOC and I've been playing through the lower levels.  I'll be honest, I haven't gotten out of tortage yet.  I just haven't been to into it.

First, let me give the game its due where it deserves.  For one, I thought having voice acting on the quests really got me into the story and environment in a way no other MMO has.  Overall they definitely made you feel like you where in the Conan universe.  The character creation process was neat too.

The graphics were decent.  Even with a fairly new and decently expensive machine I'm still running it on low, so my experience is limited.  The graphics do flow nicely with the Conan world.

I'm pretty neutral on the new combat system.  I haven't played it at high level, so I'm probably not qualified to comment, but I will anyway.  It doesn't strike me as something I care about either way.  You just follow the little arrows.  Maybe it would be more challenging if there were no arrows and you had to tell from the stance of your opponent, but then things like graphics and lag would be a huge factor.  Overall I neither hate it nor love it.  One thing I would have liked is a tutorial on how it worked (without having to read tiny text in some side window, should have been narrated).

Now the bad stuff.  Loading screens: WTF!  Everywhere I go is a load screen.  This was a big problem for me.

I don't like this single player stuff, I'm in an MMO because I want to be around other people.

Interface is just horrible.

There is no label to tell you what level a quest is or a good tracking system.  I found the minimap hard to use for this purpose as well.

Can you pvp in tortage?  I found this very confusing.

There were a couple of little things that made me say, they didn't have a big enough budget did they.

I don't think the game is horrible by any stretch.  It is probably the first legitimately decent MMO since warcraft.  However, having played the warhammer beta it just doesn't compare.

I agree with most of those points, and most of those are common complaints from what i've read for the past couple weeks.  On your last point, i've been reading the exact opposite about Warhammer.

Most of the stuff you read on forums is made up.  I can't tell you how many people post utter falsities claiming to be in beta, and the stuff they say obviously isn't close to true.
