Stargate Worlds playability

BillyBoy2BillyBoy2 Member Posts: 20

I got this quote from an article I read today:

"What made you chose Stargate Worlds as one of the titles you wanted in on?"

"Stargate Worlds is one of the best title/story ideas that we have seen in the MMORPG genre. It will bring not only the fans of Stargate, but the ex-fans of Star Wars Galaxies, Sci-Fi fans, and Gaming fans together. We can't think of a better storyline to follow."

_______________

How true that is!!!!  Stargate is perfect for an MMORPG.  This game is going to ROCK!!

Sci fi mmo's have been few and far between. Most are the fantasy based games which are ok but so many are afraid to break out of the mold.

I am disappointed in Conan, for instance, that in order to craft, you HAVE to do combat...DOH. Why can't any mmo's break the mold and allow strictly crafter characters? Not everyone wants to bash and slash all the time. I am hoping stargate has support professions that will break this cycle.

That was the main thing that drew me to swg originally, before they messed it all up, was the seperate crafting/entertaining professions. I loved that out of the box type new game. And it worked till they decided to change so much stuff, anyhoo...here's hoping SGW shows individuality too along with being a hot sci fi game. I have been sci fi fan back to original star trek lol.

if its another point and click game count me out i dont wanna stand and shoot someone 500 times in the head with a staff weapon 1 meter away from him im tired of the old mmo ways id hope it be something like tabula rasa playstyle where you can zoom snipe shoot hide behind walls to duck hits that actualy require skill and not some no skill needed game where all you gotta do is push 1 and 2 and dont say point and click game require skill cause it doesent

I just hope that its going to be unique. There are to many WoW clones in the MMO scene. I would really hate for this to happen to SGW This may be one of the only franchise based MMO's besides The Lord of the Rings Online to actually be successful.

What u are saying, that point and click games doesnt require skills is bullshit.

You say u want zoom, snipe, duck and probably u want bunny jumping too, why not play a fps??

that is exactly what im saying point in click pushing number 1 and 2 needs no skill whatsoever dont think that it does cause it doesent and if its another point and click mmo dont except it people to leave other mmos to play a mmo that is exactly the same in the end this game will fail if it does go that way

Maybe u dont need as much induvidual skill in point to click mmo´s as for example in Quake, but u dont really need that much skill in a wasd based mmo either. But there is still some skill. Skill isnt all about aiming u know. Even thou quick targeting is quite and important factor in some games.

If you check on the Stargate Worlds Wiki  www.stargateworldswiki.com/wiki/Main_Page  , you willf ind a description of what is known at this time about the combat system.  I found one comment that said it will be similiar to a fps but that you will not be as "squishy".

My main concern with SG:Worlds is that the devs seem to be fixed on the Holy Trinity of Tank/Heals/DPS. Designing around that framework explicitly is cause for concern, and shows that they're unlikely to try and break many molds.

It'd be nice to have an MMO coming out that was based on strength of its own gameplay, not on its adherence to current MMO conventions.

They had stated that you can level to about 50 without doing any combat.

This is not true.. its been stated many times by the CME developer  they are doing away  the "holy trinity" model.  No dedicated tanks, healers, etc.

Its about tactic and ranged combat., if you stand out in the open and if you are a level 50 player,  a couple of level 5 players can bring  you down.

It's a hybrid between level and skill based.

Makes me think of the old SWG with some standard pen and paper leveling to me.

    Not a bad thing.

I'm looking forward to this aspect of the game.  It's about time that an MMO tries this.  Yes, your level will be important, but it's much more realistic (and fun/challenging) to have it this way.  I will enjoy taking someone down not because I am a much higher level, but because they do not know how to play the game.

    It's a thinking person's game.

I am going to wait for a trial version. Too many MMO dissapointments lately.

The setting is unique enough. A WoW style sci-fi based game is a GOOD thing.

Well, you may get flamed for saying that, but I completely agree.  Wow has it right, it's an enjoyable easy to play game.  But the genre is a little played out.  A solid sci-fi title is long overdue. I hope this one is it.

At this point I'm willing to give SGW a chance.  It seems like a decent all around concept.  I would prefer combat to be FPS oriented, but it seems that it will be point and click.   You obviously could combine an FPS with RPG elements, but mostly game designers are scared to try it.

Whatever, it will eventually be released and then we can judge it.   Over all I list SGW as our most likely candidate for a decent game this year, so let's give it a chance.
