Because it would be just plain stupid if EA cancelled WAR. They KNOW it's going to be a cash cow, so why cancel it? In case you didn't realize, companies are all about making money.. And WAR will make them the dollars. It could be argued that all those other games they cancelled would have ended up poor to mediocre in sales. WAR, on the other hand, is a sure hit. They would have never given Mythic free reign to design the game and keep delaying it if they didn't believe it would be worth it in the end. Common sense.
EA have published some fantastic games recently and while they do publish their fair share of crap, so does everyone else. Also as long as WAR is making a profit EA have no reason to shut the game down and it;s not like they can do a NGE and ruin the game without games workshops blessing. However I don't think WAR will be the mega smash hit everyone wants and most people on these forums will be disappointed.
Because they recently sacked the CEO and more-or-less the whole bally lot of them responsible for rushing out and therefore ruining such potential AAA hits like Hellgate...
No, really. So far EA has been extremely "tolerant" of any additional delays and costs for WAR. It seems they finally learned that 1,000,000 subs in 6 months pays off better than 50,000 NOW. It is sound business sense really.
It is a pity AoC didn't have such a comfy financial cushion. WAR was supposed to come out at right about the same time as AoC. These 6 months of spit and polish will most probably quintuple the sales and therefore profits. Ofc EA is a money-grubbing corporation that couldn't care less about quality... but in the case of MMORPGs it is the quality that gives the best dividends - as WoW amply demonstrated. You can ride the hype machine on single-players that you buy and discard, but MMOs which rely on subscriptions and have a fanatical following really do need to be good to be successful.
In addition Games Workshop is a major player in board game business.. and they didn't get that way by being sissies. They're sharks, almost a cult really, and I'm sure the contracts they have with EA would make a delicate soul shudder. Read up on the way they managed to elbow out pretty much all the competition in UK and survive the board game meltdown in the 90s... They are nasssty. EA is not calling the shots alone here.
Why do you think they will? My understanding is they gave Mythic nearly full autonomy on this production.
The only danger thus far is the game being held back further than the Q4 schedule slated for this year-placing the game into a near vapourware status (think most of us are praying this won't happen).

Hes basing his question on the fact that EA has been known to ruin games when they got thier hands on them in the past (UO, Earth and Beyond) as well as many other games not in the MMO genre. Since that time there has been a changing of the gaurd, yet people are still weary, and they have valid reasons. Time will tell if EA has become more positive to the developers and allow them to continue to make games the way they want with little to no interference in the process.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
How do you know if it was even EA that ruined all those games in their past! Maybe the company & game series were already failing, but buying them and squeezing what little was left in them still turned a profit!
Though as was said above their is new blood at the helm that seems to care way more than the previous one did! Also as far as PC gaming is going its all about the MMOs now..thats the money maker, and the one and only true way to stop piracy of PC games!

Aye, they pretty much explained the whole thing after they bought Bioware and owned up to thier history of killing off dev houses and exploiting titles till they died sad deaths.

I mean seriously! Haven't you people learned by now?
Just because EA Mythic is the most experienced in MMO development. Also EA was the biggest game company before Activision and Blizzard joined in one company Activision Blizzard.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration ______\m/_____ LordOfDarkDesire

Ah yeah, forgot about that owning up to it speech! Still it wasn't all EA's fault, and frankly they will do anything atm to regain the #1 spot over Vivendi. Just hope that when they do everything stays all peachy as it is now...hehe
I never had a problem or hated EA, unfortunately game series' do die off if not handled properly and it could have been EA or not, but since it was in EA's hands when they died its all blamed on them. Though I also know EA is just like any other large company and would do anything to make a profit; which they did, but now their new blood hopefully won't kill the franchises in the process!
Keep in mind it's not just EA and Mythic. Games Workshop have a stake in this too. If they think the game is shit they'll shut it down. That's what they did with Climax's original efforts at the Warhammer game.
to OP: What you have to realise is that the market had finally understand how different the premises is for succes with a FPS and MMO's. And with moneymakes getting that understanding you should no longer expect to see the same old mistakes! One of the best artikles summing up what this is about is linked here.
its all about money they shut the other games down cause they didnt make any good money you do know its company not a some lol nerd like your self sitting a comp trying to make games cause its a fun thing to do
When are people going to get it through their skulls? EA Mythic wont cancel this game because of the immense profit it will bring but their is a company that can stop this game dead in its tracks. Its the company half seem to forget are the true masters of WARHAMMER and anything concerning it.
Games Workshop RULE ..they can stop this game anytime they like weather EA are involved or not. Its that UK company(you do no that warhammer is a uk idea) from up north that run this show...let no one think otherwise.
They closed it down before and if the want they can close it down again. Paul Barnett may work for mythic but he is also Games Workshops man ,that's where he came from before Mythic took him on.
Mythic is just a part of EA, EA owns mythic. so yes the OP has his reasons to worry but he never mentioned cancelling. and i agree EA is quite crap.. every year dozens of new (sports)games that are mostly copies of the previous games
i myself am not worrying about war however
MMOs currently playing: - About to play: Lord of the Rings Online Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Maybe Mythic changed in the last years but saying it might reach a succes due to experience alone .... I played daoc for 3 years and I *never* agreed with the direction they were taking the game.
WAR looks to be becoming a decent game but not because I have such high faith in mythic imo. Basically they already proved their first idea of World PvP was lacking back in November when they were forced to delay and make it more daoc style. 2 Fronts instead of 3 also doesn't help.
Things like that don't change my ideas about Mythic that they created a gem but had no idea what it was that made it a gem and just kept chipping away at it ever since. Again, In my opinion.
The biggest + I can give mythic is that they managed to snatch the funding to correct mistakes and they're actually trying to correct it.
boy oh boy is there going to be alot of disapointed people around. Its a good thing not too many of you are able to play the beta or you woud have already moved on to new games.
At first I wasn't impressed to say the least. But they are keeping there nose out of it. I think for once they know they have absolutely no idea on how to go about making good mmorpgs.

Everyone I know has been enjoying themselves. Thats not to say there arent people who dislike it but I think you get my point. Matter of fact .... playing War beta was more fun that release AOC. Not a knock on AOC ...its a decent game but as they say different things for different people.

Shame you had to call it a matter of fact then which then, it's not, only for you personally ^^

What you should ekspect EA to ask Mythic now is not if they shal release it sooner, but if it had been delayed enough!

He said RUIN, not CANCEL FFS
Because If Warhammer fails, you can forget the whole genre for the next 5 years.
