I went from OMFG, my dreams have come true to release it already to SOE? WTF!!

After the last one, I just gave up and that's actuall a bit odd because I gave up the hate on for SOE a while ago. I dunno. I like Eve (what I play now) but I can only take so much Eve at a time. I saw ship loss and thought.. hmm, that could be cool.

So can I: Explore in peace untill I am ready to PvP?

Solo?

Make cash to buy the goodies without months of boring grind?

TY!!

SOE doesn't really have much to do with the game.  I mean that in both a positive and a negative sense btw.  SOE doesn't seem to have involved themselves in game development - but also doesn't seem to have gone to great lengths to advertise or distribute the game either.

There isn't really any exploration as such, but if you were asking if you can avoid PvP until you are ready then yes - provided you use some smarts and the same kind of common sense survival instincts that EVE should have taught you by now.

Solo is very possible with pretty much any career, but cutthroats, naval officers and privateers have it easier than the buccaneer or freetrader.

If I said you could do anything without a boring grind I'd be lying to you IMO.  This may change with upcoming patches (they're introducing insurance) but unless you're good at the economic game / have a supportive guild or grind a lot, the loss penalty for PvP is pretty steep.  Essentially most are forced to grind a lot of PvE relative to the time they PvP (your mileage may vary).

The game is hampered by some decisions the Devs made a while ago (pretty much based on inexperienced guesses and lack of understanding of MMO player mindsets).  To their credit FLS is attempting to make improvements but PotBS faces a tough up-hill slog to recover from the negative perceptions it's created so far.

The game is available on SOE's station downloader digitally if you can't find it in a store near you.  Good luck and hope you enjoy it if you choose to try.

For SOE involvement, it has been minimal, actually as stated above, for distribution, marketing and billing.  SOE has had its hands off from development and supposedly has not done any influencing (that is a debatable topic).

However, SOE does turn a profit from every copy sold and every month subscribed.

So that is the brief three sentences summary of SOE with PotBS.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

    TY Jakin

    Do you play PotBS, Drakus?

Nay.  I would like to, but giving SOE money for profit is what prevents me from doing so.

Now if I could pay directly to FLS, then I would.

    A matter of principles.

I do believe that PotBS has merit and does have potential, even with its flaws.  However, I will not hand over money to support the salaries of the current management of SOE.  Until new policies and management is provided by SOE, then I as with many will continue to exert power with our wallets and press.

A shame that FLS had to endure the problems of being associated with SOE, but heck, FLS figured there was more to gain than to loose.

Not giving money to a corrupt company like SOE sounds like a smart decision to me. Not sure why you would want to support a company that has so little regard for their customers.
