can make your character look however you want. have to do missions to get your cape, around level 20 i think, been awhile since i played. flying is a travel power, you would get that at 14 i think. you could also choose super jump or teleporatation or super speed. you would have to gain way more levels to get more than one travel power but in two weeks free trial that probably wont happen unless you neglect your primary and secondary powers.
The only thing the trial limits really is quality of life features such as joining supergroups and things to counteract spammers.
As far as "missing items", here's a brief run through....
any level: you may get lucky and find a recipe for sets of wings (except angelic or demon) or rocket/winged boots to add to your character. you can also buy them from the consignment house.
level 6: you can run radio and subsequently bank missions to get a one-time travel temporary power: a jump pack and a raptor flying pack. You can get one of each only once.
level 14: you can get a "travel power" such as flight, superjump, super speed or teleport after taking one previous power in that respective power pool.
level 20: you run a specific mission from the city representative in atlas park (or whoever in Rogue Isles) to have the distinction of wearing long flowing capes.
3 month subscriber: Trench coats automatically available at character creation.
15 month subscriber: angelic wings, demon wings (you don't need these to fly) automatically available at character creation.
21 month subscriber: shoulder capes automatically available at character creation.
