EVE Live Chat- Downtime STILL Sucks

TaeraTaera Community ManagerMember CommonPosts: 1,078

Tonight at 10pm EDT (2:00 GMT), the EVE servers will be brought down for 24 hours to patch the newest expansion, the Empyrean Age.

Downtime STILL sucks, even if it's for a good reason.  And if you're wondering what to do while the universe is closed, stop on by the MMORPG.com Live Chat to hang out with friends, plot the downfall of your enemies, talk Factional trash, and gripe about downtime. As with our last Downtime Sucks chat, imaginary punch and pie will be available.

Event starts at 10pm EDT (2:00 GMT) and goes until CONCORD breaks us up.  Users can connect via our Live Chat javaclient or via any IRC client, to server irc.coldfront.net port 6667.  The chat will take place in #mmorpg.

24 hours they say. If you want a good experience in EVE, you just have to join a good corp. For most players, it's not EVE itself that is bad, it's the corp they are in.

I think it does help if your corp is good. This is my third time back to the game since launch. Though the first few times i had to stop because I was sent to the gulf. I have been back a couple years. The first corp i joined when i returned was awesome, they taught me allot. Now even though I started my own corp, we are all still friends and still do stuff together.

Do your homework before joining a corp. Use the thier local chat room if they have one and talk to them before joining.

    Welcome back to Eve.

Well the down time is supposed to be at 2 GMT but I can't get online now and I have been trying since 9 GMT.

    I get this message:

Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.

Anyone able to log on now?

If you're bored b/c the EVE servers are down, you can always come and check out the progress being made on Infinity: www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/infinity_media.php

I recommend looking in the contributions forum, as well as the Art Infinity page: www.infinity-universe.com/Concepts/

Something to do while you wait for EVE to come back online!

Why is Eve offline?!?!  It is nowhere near the scheduled downtime.

It is a little after 10am GMT right.  The scheduled downtime is at 2pm GMT.

Am I missing something?  Do I have my times wrong?

Deployment of the free summer expansion, EVE Online: Empyrean Age, will begin at 02:00 GMT on 10 June.

    Yes, yes you are wrong.

  • LoneStarSageLoneStarSage Member Posts: 3

Yep, 2am not 2pm.   Sorry, I did find that out and should have come back here to update things.

    Thanks

It seem you are so nooblet, that you can't even read. The server comes back at 2am on the 11th of June, not today. BTW CONCORD station owned by Matar forces.

I'm completely new to EVE Online.  I joined just a few days ago and I have found the gaming experience to be superior.  After about two days, I subscribed for a year, which should tell you how much I think of this game.

So, of course, a day after I subscribe for a year, they take the system down for an extended period.

Fortunately, I'll survive.  And I can look forward to seeing all the new enhancements.  I was already impressed with the experience of the old system, so I'm really looking forward to the new experience.

I wonder if we'll need to download a new client?

I've been a gaming freak since Middle School, which was the late 70's, just to offer some perspective.  I grew up in Annapolis, MD, near the US Naval Academy, and my friends and I would go to the Academy grounds on some weekends and sneak into their computer lab to play a game called "Motie."  There were no monitors, just reams and reams of paper coming out of a printer in each cubicle.   Each time one of us would make a move, the printer would spit out the latest map of the game with everyone's position and other details.

So we would log on, network our machines together, and play for hours.  Or until someone found us and kicked us out of the lab.  :-)

Why do I feel like I just got kicked out of the lab again?

lol... I have to admit, that's little before my time

To answer your question, no, you wound have to download a new client, but you will have to download a patch. Once EVE's been updated, all you will have to do is open the client as normal, then a box will pop-up saying: "a new patch is available for download", just press yes and it will start downloading and you can install it afterwards.

I have to admit, there is no game like EVE. You can not tell me there is any other game that allows you to have an long term impact on a game when you play it.  The fact that you can take a hostile corperation (made up of other gamers) from them, or build in game assets that you have to defend really makes you feel ownership in the game.

I have been playing almost two years now, and I can not believe that I run into the same people over the months, it seems very hard to leave the game when you are a part of it!

Man, Downtime is hard enough for an hour, but when you make it 24 hours, things get pretty tough for me. I guess I'll go do something constructive, such as studying for finals!

There's a patch there now, and tranq's status is marked as incompatible.. not a very big patch.. the message says the update is deployed and new connections are being throttled

Server up! Remember, contact me in game if you're looking for a corp!

Thanks very much for the great information!  I can see right off the bat that not only is this a phenomenal game, but that the user community is terrific too.

So how long will it take before I have my own battle fleet?

Just kidding.  One step at a time; yes?

    Regards,

    David
