My Summarized AoC Opinions

I think AoC is a great game with great potential.

The graphics are good the mature factor is cool good customization good quest system atleast at lower lvls.  Aside from the fact my computer couldnt play it and I had to upgrade PCs to really get a smooth game play going I am enjoying AOC this far.  It isnt without its bugs but they are constantly patching / tweaking and adding content etc.

I am now lvl 49 working my way up and still enjoying it and looking  forward to what kind of changes / additions will be made.  The end game is lacking but I am not there yet so we will have to wait and see :P

Overall Id give it a 9 and say its worth the $50 bucks for a month if you have a PC that can handle it the min specs are bull crap though so watch out you need duel core atleast and a v good video card and 2 gig of ram imo.

At the rate they are patching and updating the game right now, I am willing to forgive the lack of polish and bugs. Luckily I have had no gamebreaking bugs, CTD's, lag or disconnects myself and I'm having a blast playing so far, despite the shortcomings.

AoC has tremendous potential, I just hope they manage to convince enough subscribers.

I find it difficult to understand how people like AoC, and can only think of one reason - it looks pretty.

The game is still beta and has the most contrived, distracting combat system, ie combos. The idea of active combat is fine and it almost works until you get to higher levels and it takes 5 keystrokes to activate an ability. Combos destroy the active combat as implemented in AoC.

And the game is instanced much more than is healthy to a player's enjoyment.

Sure the game will not always remain beta and will, in some months, be ready for release. Someday player stats will be meaningful, endgame content will be present and there will be an economy. (etc)

But the combat system will remain flawed and there is too little to compensate for the pretty look.

Most players disagree with you there, the combat system is one of the features that people seem to like the most about this game.

AoC promised active combat where the player would react to others' defences. Instead combos force the player to abandon this aim and to press pre-defined sequences of keystrokes with no regard to what is happening in the fight. So active combat and combos really are at odds with each other, as implemented.

Combos also decrease the skill factor as instead of continually choosing abilities appropriate to the specific circumstances players choose less often and the skill is in getting in the predefined keystrokes before the opponent moves out of range, for example.

Combos put melee classes at a disadvantage and you only have to visit the AoC PvP forums to see many are dissatisfied. It seems concensus that at present caster classes are at a distinct advantage.

I haven't yet heard any reasons that make sense to me as to how combos improve the game experience, though if you enjoy it that's all that counts and good for you.

Whats with all the people talking about 'levels' and 'end-games' ?

Whats happened to the MMORPG world? Am I the only one looking for a virtual world sandbox to immerse myself in?

All I have done in AoC so far is quest after quest. What a grind. I dont want to do quests and I want to do something else!

Saying that, the combat system is superb and very fun to play. By far the best in any MMORPG to date,

What do you think #2 and #3 are so I can get a reference? I always wonder when the use of "any mmo" is used. You've played them all?
